Nice fish...

All these questions about pads and trees....what about grass and docks.  What about all the other structure that Papa talks about?

And I can understand getting tired of Caddo....I haven't been there in several months and I'm tired of it....hahahahaha

The Bream beds I have found are on points back in the sloughs around Brumleys. seems they are looking for a shady point or bank line that has a little sand. The one I was fishing is in a slough out by the boat row just before it turns around the big point by brumleys.

So Papa...are those king size, queen size, regular....and can I assume that they were all water beds?

Also, how did Papa's Pond bass like the bream?

Well I went out this morning at about 6:00 just before leaving for work and caught a 7 lber on the first cast and had my line broke on the second (only use 10 lb. line with a barbless hook in the pond) and she got me around a log. so I guess that is a pretty good present.

Mike it didn't matter where you fished this morning they were eating anything, anywhere on the lake. I tried to call in and skip work, but I could not pull it off.

All I can say is "Man that Steve is on fire". I don't know exactly how many in a row it is but I do know he has been winning everything he fishes. I got to fish with Super Steve in a night tournament on Caddo last night (as his guest) during a Blanchard Club tournament; he made me take my boat (I think he is afraid of getting the night fishing mess in his new boat ;) most guide trips you take the guides boat :).)

We had a great time, and caugth 20 - 25 fish. Fished spinnerbaits and worms all night with a few buzzbait casts inbetween. We caught 1 bass on a worm before it got dark and everything esle came on a spinnerbait. Except for maybe an hour total one of us had a worm in the water at all times and we didn't get a bite on it. We had a couple dry spells but we caught fish most of the night. Never really did find them bunched up anywhere, just a fish or two everywhere we stopped. We fished a little bit of everywhere but our better fish came from Jeems Bayou after midnight.

We won with 21 pounds and some change (putting another notch in the "Steve"miesters belt, Second had 20 and some change (I beleive) and third was 19 and some change. Third had big bass a little over 6 pounds.

The most important thing Steve taught me last night was that even when your night is getting very tough and the world seems to be crapping on you, keep your head held high and your confidence up and you can still win the tournament.

Thanks again Steve I truely enjoyed the tournament and had a great time. Especially when you made me laugh so hard in the middle of the night.............. Remember to keep your head low when the egrets are out at night ;D

Mike,

I think Steve made you take your boat because I jinxed his a couple of weeks ago when I got blanked!

Just kidding.  I'll bet it was the good karma that Steve got for coming out and helping us at the "Saving Corben" tournament on the Red.  I almost got blanked, until I caught an unkeepable 11-incher on a lizard (green w/ blue flakes).  Too bad he wasn't a keeper, because we might have tipped 3 pounds!

We came in 2nd to last, I think - but it was my first tournament.  Boy, fishing the river is TOUGH!!!

Congrats to you guys, and I hope to hear the egret story.

Steve & Mike are smoking when it comes to Caddo. They have won the Blanchard (Caddo Night), for the second year in a row.  Way to go!

Casso,

The fish you are catching are they relating to the pads or the trees? if you don't mind giving up a little info for us that aren't going to get much time out there

Mike-

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you earlier, this is the first time I have checked the board since that post. I spent pretty much all of last week on Caddo and there are fish biting out there. As for your question they are relating to both. I didn't have much success on the pad edges but trees with pads all around them seemed to hold fish as did small pad clumps in the trees. I also caught fish in trees w/ no pads. Other types of grass have been holding fish as well. Most of my success came on soft plastics in about 4 feet of water. Never really found them stacked up or concentrated, just one or two here and there. Caught a good number of slot fish and unders, very few overs. Lost a wall hanger at the boat. I was fishing heavy pads in timber, got her out to the boat but she made one last run at the boat and wrapped around a group of pads broke me off before I could get to her. Hope this helps.

Mike,
thanks again for being my guide, I don't believe we got your boat that messed up, except for a little bird do-do and most of that went on me.  next time say "duck" or more appropriately "egret" . ;D

I really got schooled on a blade bite, I only caught 7 fish all nite, the good thing is that 3 of what I caught we weighed, so at least I made a small contribution.  we did find the fish were sitting right on the bank usually with a tree or knee present.  Most of the fish we caught hit the blade immediately. can't figure out why the plastic bite was non-existent.

Thanks to my Guide

My brother and I tested the weather last night and fished a couple hours on Caddo, luckily avoiding a bad storm.

I did catch one, as the conditions seemed pretty good.  We launched at Tuckers and ventured around the corner near the mouth of the main river.  Before we got there, we worked a treeline with good lily pad cover.  It was a tad windy when we first hit the water, but things got really calm and remained that way.

I used my homemade "Gabby's Red-headed Stepchild" buzzbait, and caught this nice little 2 pounder.  Not too much action, but as always had a ton of fun!

Fished the "The Club" tourney on Caddo yesterday. Like most we found the fishing very tough and very hot. We did have a couple limits weighed in though Steve and I were not one of them. Our hot spot only produced three good bites and we missed two of them. Then the rest of the day it was hunt and peck. We spent quit a bit of time in the river area of caddo and then went back to Jeems where we caught 3 of our 5 fish. Steve caught most of our fish on a baby brush hog, I was beeing stubborn and stuck to by big worms and hoo daddy to no evail. We did manage one slot fish on a crank bait. We came in 4 th ......

First great job on the tourney report Steve!

Then Father time says I have to tell all, so here it is.

I fished where I fish every warm weather tourney on Caddo. Go to markers 70-72 in Jeems look left then look right, now hit every tree you can in the alloted time, concentrating on trees close to the" CREEK" ( not the channel ) with some vegetation on them with a BIG worm, I mostly use red shad, watermelon and Louisiana soft shell. Most of my fish came on 4-6 foot trees, I hit every tree I could with 5-6 pitches and ALL of my good fish came on at least the 3rd pitch some on 5th or 6th.
I can't tell you how many times I have been on those fish before a tourny only to miss several good bites or make some bad decision on how to fish them on tourney day. yesterday with my trolling motor more or less out I had to SLOW DOWN and work the area hard maybe that was the key. You can bet I will find out next time I go.

papa :)

Hey papa, sorry for hitting your spots first. I was glad to know that we didn't take "the good fish".. Keep us updated on the trolling motor repair..

Had a few hours to go fishing yesterday afternoon so I went to Caddo .I got there about 3pm and by about 315 I boated a 4.01 pounder on a tequila sunrise 7.5 culprit worm . My partner lost one about 30 minutes later at the boat (looked to be about 2lbs). Around 415pm  or so he boated a 3.70 and then about twenty minutes after that  he fought one to the boat again and it broke off this time (at least 3.5 or better)-he should have re-tied after the the 3.70 .We had nothing but good solid bites yesterday .It was all in 3 ft of water or less .The 4 pounder I caught was in 2 foot of water .Had to leave at 6pm..   Every bite we got was very tight to shallow cypress trees. We launched out of Shady Acres and were just out of Jeems in the main lake..
