Most of our lakes go with a standard size limit but the ones with a slot are supposed to be tests that got out of hand. They were trying to generate trophy lakes but it really seems to have created a stagnant size fish. Not every lake can be Lake Fork

I wish the aba had used the 17" la slot, they had to use the 18" tx slot.  4 of my slots were over 17" and they all weighed 3lb or over- would have been a lot more fun at the weigh -in, still would have gotten beat but the weight would have "looked" good.

By a slot lake I take it to mean your fishing regulations say in order to keep fish they must be outside the slots?  or ae the slots only during tournamnets?

Mike Cork

Yeah, all fish inside the slot must be released. It is supposed to keep the strongest spawning bass in the lake. With that said you can imagine how that might help numbers of fish to increase but wildlife and fisheries says it supposed to increase quality also. If you consider a 17 inch bass as quality they have succeeded.

The ponds here have gone to an unlimited take as the numbers of small fish < 12"  is enormous.  Only a few good quality fish exist in each pond, if you consider 7-12 pounds quality...  if you fish the Punch Bowl most of the Bluegill outweigh the Bass, some of the bluegill went more than 2 pounds, and thier are hundreds in the pond ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao

Gunter...we used the Texas slot also.

what is the law on the TX vs LA slot?  If you launch in LA and have a LA licsence and your boat is registered in LA, then why do you have to follow the TX slot limit?  The TX slot limit isn't posted at the ramp in LA, so how can they enforce it?  You have to have GPS or be intimately familiar with the lake to know if you are in TX or not.

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll never see him again!

Mike Noble

For tournaments, everyone uses the TX slot incase any of the competitors go into TX.  Several of our teams went into TX yesterday...the fish brought to the scale came out of TX.

We just use the TX slot fishermen can go wherever.

Just to let everyone know, I moved the "Slot discussions" from this topic to a thread that was already in progress in Dock Talk.  It is "Slot lake discussions".

We need to keep this for the fishing reports on Caddo.

Mike Cork

Country, I would love too but I have a bunch to do around here and after this week I think I might sleep way in. I just might not get up unitl 0600 or maybe even push it to 0615. Good luck though, don't forget to throw that red rattle trap, them slot fish were eating it pretty good once I figured it out. They are fun when you are just out fishing.

Fished Caddo Friday from about 1030 am till 230 pm.  First off, we launched in chocolate milk.  The wind was the worst I have ever seen it on Caddo - so navigating was tough, and we didn't even attempt to cross over into Texas like we hoped.  Stuck around Jeems, and I didn't even get a bite.  The only action we saw was off an isolated cypress tree in about 8 feet of water.  My buddy used a black/blue jig to pull a NICE 19 inch fish that resembled a football.  My guess is that the fish was full of eggs and weiged between 4.5 - 5.5 lbs.  It was a nice one.

I love pitching a jig.  Can't wait until next time!

Country

Fished Caddo yesterday.  I cought 2 black bass on a gold rattle trap.  The red trap didn't work.  The action was slow, so we went after the white bass.  Trey and I cought about 18 on the gold rattle traps, over by tow head.  Those whites are fun to catch.  the water temp was 49 all day, and water was stained.

Railroader

If i might ask where ? were you throwing a rattle trap..

Country,  was that you I talked to in a red & white ProGator in the slough between Big Green Break & Tar Island yesterday?  The guy I talked to said his buddy just caught one on a trap at the east/south(LA) end of the slough.  I think I also talked to this guy at the ramp area just before my club & I launched for our tournament.  By the way. I haven't posted a report on the trip because I am still ticked off at myself for not catching a single fish :-[ :'( :(.  Papa.....I'm apparently un-helpable!  Maybe it's time to try golf ::)

Marty,

Country and I were in that Red and White Pro Gator; I was in the passenger seat.  You said that you had just switched to a Senko and you hated Senkos!  If I had of known it was you I would have talked a little longer.  We (Clint) caught the first fish right there in Tar Island Slough with a gold trap throwing it right next to the trees.  It was just East of where we talked to you.  The second one was caught up the river channel near Twin Island.  It was in some grass near the bank.  Then we moved up just a bit to Tow Head and started catching white bass.  We would let the traps fall all the way to the bottom and then just reel real slow.  Did anybody do any better this weekend?

This might sound like a plug for this web site, but hey it is!  When I buy my ultimate bass.com sticker, I'm going to put it on my motor.  Then when all you guys see it, we can introduce ourselves out there.  Yeh Marty that was us.  When there is no money on the line and its a slow day, we arent too proud to get on those white bass for a fight.

Mike Cork

Thats a great idea Country, with the sticker on the motor we will be able to tell a puter friend right off the bat.

One of these days! At least I know when it is time, I will be able to get everything on it I want. I even have a mental list of things I see on other boats or stuff I wish mine had that I plan on making sure my new one has.

That & I am waiting on the Verado to come down in price!  ~shade
