I fished Caddo yesterday from noon till dark.  We caught four on buzzbaits and spinners.  This was the first time I have been to that lake, and I'm real sure where to go.  I only have a lil 3hp, so I cant spend all day running over that lake trying to find fish.  I didnt realize how big that lake is!

Brent if you can go to Tuckers landing on the north end on the Texas side and fish lily padfs early with frogs or trick worms. then fish the single trees with big worms. You can also catch some quality fish on a worm or jig in the holes in the pads , sometimes the BIG ones are holding in the thickest pads. ~cf

Took a buddy fishing today who hasnt been in over a year . I figured I would take him to Caddo since the heat of the summer is the only time I can get bit there. He could only get away for a couple of hours . We got there about 3pm and left by 630. We put in at Shady Acres and decided to start out pitching some trees in Jeems with no takers. I decided to make the trek to the river .Stopping by a couple of my favorite spots along the way and again no takers  . We got to one of my favorite points in the river and I lost one on my first cast .I threw back to the same spot and caught a fat 17 inch fish ,next cast I caught one that was  15 plus inces long in the same spot . Then we had about a thirty minute lull with no fish and then it picked up pretty good we boated 10 fish total ,9 of which were right in the middle of the slot . I caught seven fish on a carolina rigged Baby Brush Hog (watermelon/red dipped in chartreuse Garlic) 6 ft leader. My buddy caught three on a Crankbait (8 ft diver ).We sat in the same spot off of the point . I was getting bit in about 14 ft of water on the rig.... Man it was hot ! :o  I told him about the website and he said he would be signing on tonight . So if you see this Larry  .... You should have thrown the Carolina rig ,HARDHEAD! ;D

Big A I have not been to Caddo in a while but Chris's post is what I would try if I were you. They are usually ganged up along the cuts and flats on the Big river up north at this time of the year.

Well i did try it but i had no luck.  I fished all around potter point and even up potters point right where the boat run goes into the main lake.  I fished a white and black buzz bait and also a frog in the pades and I had only one look at it.  But I am going this afternoon and we will see if anything new will happen.

Did you go up in the river ? Some days they are easy pickins this time of year .I have a buddy who caught an 8 lber,6.5lber and several more over five On Monday on a LARGE red shad worm fishing laydowns .He said his best five was almost thirty pounds. I told him he was a lying SOB  and he produced the proof ...Pictures from a digital camera...  :o

Trey

What river are y'all talking about?  Do you mean up Jeem's Bayou or somewhere on the Texas side?

Trey  8)
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll never see him again!

Mike Cork

I believe they are talking about the main river that feeds the lake and it is on the texas side. The river is called Big Cypress I believe or at least that is a nick name for it.

I went to caddo yesterday and had a blast.  I caught about 10 bass and one large 8.3 lbs.  The bass was not a long one but really thik. If you would like to see it go to www.PoBoysOutdoors.com and it is there.  I caught all of the on a buzzzzzzzzz bait and I was on the river not on the lake.

Crustaceous

Hey everybody.  I'm the newest newbie around here, and I'm ready to go fishin'!

I went with a friend up on the river a couple of weeks back, and we caught pretty good numbers on red shad worms, but I've been back a few times and haven't done as well since.  I like to catch, but not keep.  I'm looking for a good place to find where I can stretch my line a few times, and slot fish will do.  Any tips for this newbie?

I had poor luck on the river fishing on the weekends, as there was LOTS of boat traffic on it.  Heck, I couldn't even keep my boat in position to fish.  I'd like to find a few holes where I don't spend all day fiddle-farting around with my trolling motor.  I have been up Jeems Bayou, and think it is nice up there.  Anyone want to share where a few nice holes are up there?  Should I try more around places like Jap Island, Frog Island, or some of the other landmarks on the map?  I will mostly launch on the Louisiana side as I am from Shreveport, but I have plenty of gas and don't mind running anywhere.  I intend to lurk and post here more as I get to know the lake and where to fish.  It would be nice to hook up with some of you sometimes to get to know some of my fellow anglers, too, if you can accept a non-Nitro, non-Triton kind of guy who fishes an 18' Bass Tracker.  It doesn't seem to be contagious.

;)

Mike Noble

Welcome Crustaceous.  I am sure you have any trouble finding someone to post fishing with you and to hook up for a trip.  And hey...a tracker is part of the Nitro family! ;D

I can't give you any help on Caddo, but we have quite a few "Caddo" fishermen on the board.

Once again, welcome.

I can feel the "love" already.  Fishermen (and fisher-women) are a good bunch, ain't they?

O.K.....I'm looking for good advice, and someone better give me some.  I say that because when I get too bored, I get nekkid.  TRUST ME, you don't want to drive by me on Caddo and see a sight like THAT!!!!   :-[  Therefore, you MUST share with me your secrets, or forever be scarred for life!!!  Actually, I don't strip ALL the way:  I leave on some black socks and a necktie.  This is a picture you will want to see ONLY in your mind.

So consider yourselves warned....TAKE ME FISHING, FOR EVERYONE'S SAKE!!!

LOL

;D

I just about done decided that in order to catch fish on Caddo, that you have to go west of the draw bridge launch in Mooringsport.  I have fished to the east several times over the last few months, and have caught little to nothing.  My wife and a guy I coach with went this past weekend and all got shut out.  Aint too much worse than driving 45 minutes and not catchin anything.  Im ready to head out the other way next time.
Anyone know of a map that can be found on the internet of Caddo?

MotherNature

Welcome aboard  8) ! Looks like you are gonna fit right in here with all us fisher "people". Hang tight Caddo lake is a reletively active thread here on the board and I amsure that someone here will help you out soon.

Oh, and please not get nekkid, there may be youngsters around here ;)

Caddo is a very finicky lake this time of year for most but some to figure it out. Have you ever tried the sloughs winding threw goverment ditch? Also the island out in front of Potters point is called Whately Island, well on the south side of it you will find some deeper trees and this time of year they can be really good. Try a large worm in june bug or black neon fished tight to the deeper trees that you find. If fishing early and late throw top water baits like a spook or buzz bait.

Also I have  learned so far when you want to fish caddo with out fighting a lot of moss and lilly pads you can go up the river and find backed up coves with good underwater stumps and get them to hit on buzz baits or a black and blue craw worm.  Back up in one of them coves is where i have been getting all mine this time of year along with the big 8.5 lbs bass.
