BIG PAPA

Fished Caddo this afternoon for about 4 hours (3 to 7) No real chore to catch a few fish but still a slot bite. I fished Aimes Springs and Bonhams arm with weightless junebug lizards just swimming it through the grass and caught about 7-8 slot fish and 1 under. Had one wrap me up in a brush top that could have been pretty big but not sure. Water was about 72 when I got there at 3.

Hey Papa...how did you do in Aimes Springs...My pard and I had just got started a little after noon Saturday but didn't fish it long....

Also how about fishing in the Hog Waller...haven't been up there this year yet..

Caught 4 or 5 up in The basin fishing the lizard on the edges of the boat row. I haven't been in Hog wallow for about a year, when the water was low it was too hard to fish with all the weeds.

Fished Sat and Sun looking for fish for a few upcoming tourneys.

Sat- started slow, 1 over before lunch, early afternoon found some in 4ft, 1 slot, 1 under and 3 overs bigest a little over 4. All came off of soft plastics/ jigs w/ trees and grass.

Sunday- ran around checking areas I haven't fished in years, 4 overs, 2 slots and a few unders. All came from pitching jigs and plastics. Bigest fish landed was 4.5-5lbs. Stuck a few big ones but luck wasn't on my side. Got one 6lber out jumping everywhere to the boat only to make one last surge and hang up in a tree under the boat. Stuck one that balled up then ran straight to the boat and under the boat and kept going. Stuck one, thought I was hung then it came alive and showed me who was boss and came undone. Now I remember why I used to love Caddo, there's big fish out there. Nothing special to what I was doing, trees w/ grass.

BIG PAPA

Yep Days like that are the reason I love Caddo so much.
And I am going to stop prefishing all these other lakes so much so I can learn Caddo all over again. Now that it is a grass lake and not JUST a cypress tree lake I feel like a greenhorn. :'(

Past few days have been good, catchin a lot of numbers in about the 3ft. range. been fishin wat.red\chart. flukes and senkos, some fish coming off a pink trick worm....and yes I did say pink lol. hey PAPA....still have been catching a few overs with that ZARA SPOOK technique I was telling you about, its an awesome pattern to get on. Usually mid-morning or late evening ill take a reg. sized zara spook and pitch it up extremely close to a tree. Work the bait fast and hard for about 5-7 twitches, but try to still keep it close to the bark while workin it. Then, slow it down to work out away off the tree, only a couple of feet. It can be aggravating because you get hung sometimes trying to get so close, but it pays. Thanks Nick! I hate this time of year cause this is when I make most of my money for the year and I do not have a lot of fishing time. But I cannot wait to try that trick.

My wife and I hit Caddo for a whle Friday afternoon....caught 3 slots mostly on a black/blue craw and a pile of goggle-eye... ;D

Wife caught a few perch with shinners and also some goggle-eye...

A friend was also out with his son and had about the same luck...with the goggle-eye... ;D

He gave me his so brought home and cleaned 19 of the raskles... ;D

We were fishing mostly the trees north of Bird Island and a little in Aligator Bayou...and there were boats galore in both places... >:(

Hit Caddo a little while after work Friday with a friend.....Launched at the tressel and fished Thompsons arm...friend caught one keeper there on a chartruese/white/blue spinner and I missed a hookup on a black/blue senko type...

Ran to the island in front of the spillway and bite was still slow...Friend caught another keeper on spinner and then lost a good one..near 17 or 18 inches on a gold or copperish lip jerk bait....

And I got skunked... >:(

Then to make matters worse I ran into a pile of cows on the way home... >:( Was nearly stopped when I hit them but still knocked 2 little ones down and may have broke leg on another.....Another car came while I was stopped and had to swerve to avoid the hurt cow and ran in the ditch....During police report another car came that had already hit the cows earlier.....

Mostly crunch damage on my truck...hood, fenders, bumper, grill, etc...still drivable till I put it in the shop...Guess my boat will be grounded for a while though... :'(

Hey..could rent a stall on cross .. :-* I wonder if they have electricity for charging batteries, etc.?

I just thank the Lord that no one was hurt in all that mess...

Man i hate to hear that Scottie. Who's paying for the repairs? Back home it would be the owner of the cows but not sure how they do it here. Glad nobody got hurt.

Mitch
Take a kid fishing, the smiles are priceless!!!

The owners did come out and said they would take care of everything...I do believe in Louisiana they are liable...Just hope they at least pay for my $500 deductable....

Will call my agent today and get the ball rolling...

Been there done that, hit one in 2000 with my brand new Dodge Dakota, pulling my boat home from Cypress.  A 6 month old truck with over $14,000.00 in damage.  :shocking:  Had state and local boys out checking my for DUI.  LOL  everyone down here thinks that if your fishing your drinking.  Went to get a lawyer due to the damage on my truck, back and right arm, but months went by before they dropped the case.  I was told they couldn't do anything because no police report or anything had ever been filed, I tried to get one my self, even had the State troopers name that took the photos, but was told that I must be mistaken because he didn't work that area & as a mater of fact was not on patrol that night.  Dang cops took photos of everything but due to the good old boy program it got all swept under the rug.  Glad to see you got info on the owners, but make sure you get a copy or the report.

I'm glade your OK, just watch out for your intrest in this.  8)

Caddo Lake is starting to get more national and world exposure. Just finished a shooting with the Discovery Channel for a show on there called The Fishing Ambassador. Its not just a fishing show, but shows info on the lakes history, towns, and people around the lake. It is suppose to be an hour long and will air in Europe this fall and here in the states at the first of 2007. Will pass along times and air dates when I get them.  ~gator

Thanks Paul for the news.  Nice touch on the name of the show as you acted as and Ambassador showing them around!  lo  If memory serves me correct you show KVD around as well not to very long ago.

Might have to tie my Nitro to yours on day and get to learn the lake a bite more.  :)

The "Ambassador" was actually the host who was from Canada whose name was Cero. But he didnt get the hang of southern bass fishing too well with all the cypress trees and grass.....but we had some real nice bass to show for a days efforts though. lo

Ron Fogelson

Are you telling us he stuck more cypress limps then bass lips?   lo

Good deal Paul ~c~ Sounds pretty neat and I look forward to seeing it. ~sun

Papa,
If you are still looking for some line just drop me a note and I will help you locate it.

BIG PAPA

Thanks Paul, Scottie told me they have it at Bacon's, I am going to try to get out there tomorrow. But I will sure let you know if that does not work out I really want to try the Gamma line.
papa

mmberry72

Papa...don't know if you've ever tried it or not but Mean Green is absolutely the best line out there hands down.  I've used it for two years now and have not broke it yet.  No memory and just enough stretch.  The only place I've been able to find it is at Clarks on the river and Travis.  Give it a try.
Ranger Boats aren't Skeeter-ed, Nitro-ed or
                       Triton-ed!!!

BIG PAPA

MM I got some Gamma today at Travis along with the rest of the store :'(
I am going to give it a try but I will keep the Mean Green in mind
Thanks a lot for letting me know about it :)

Went to Caddo today first light out of Williamson Park.  Went to North side of Big Green Break water was about 72 degrees.  Started with buzzbait and Ribbit.  Not sure how well these would work with recent cool snap and high pressure.  Now I know.........they stank.  No bites.

Switched to wacky rigged Tiki Stik and caught five around trees.  All dinky 12" fish.

Had never been to Texas side so ran up into Big Cypress Bayou.  Fished some trees on the main bayou on shady side and caught two more small fish.  Then caught a nice one.  Made a horrible pitch and was reeling it in when a big wake emerged from some grass and nearly yanked rod out of my hand.  Landed a 4lb 12oz fish that was super skinny.  I saw the head and thought I had a beast.  Few minutes later caught a 2lb 5oz 18" fish and one more dink.  Caught all those on Sweet Beaver.  Also caught lots of Goggle eyes.

Headed back towards park and fished around Whatley island and Jap island with no luck.  Fun day.  My 4th trip out to Caddo.

I need some new areas to look at.  James bayou looks nice and also area called Clinton Lake on Texas side.  Anyone ever fish those areas?  Are they worth checking out?

Jay
WHO DAT TALK BOUT BEAT DEM SAINTS?

BIG PAPA

Clinton lake is a long way up alligator Bayou and is likely mossed over by now, It can be pretty good in the spring but the water is clear and it is grassy.
Jeems (James) bayou is about the size of Cross lake and has a wealth of pockets bayous and creeks, If you go in there you might check out Bonhams arm, there have been some good fish coming out of there this year but it gets very grassy in the summer. Another spot I catch fish is around marker # 70 the main creek makes a path through a wooded and grassy area around there and can be good. Some of the best fishing on the lake is usually around Big green Break and on up to Whatley Island.
Good luck

Anyone fishing the RMTT Sat. I caught some pretty good fish this evening on the south side of Trevor Island, ( south Of Tuckers) fishing a frog in the pads.  (Ribbit) watermelon red and white, had two around 19 inches and a couple of slots right at 18 inches. Also lost a really big fish just out from Sand Island, got around a limb line and hung me up under the tree, on a smoke blue Brush Hog
papa :(

fished the rmtt to day, man what a tough day for us.  Managed one over and 3 under.  Missed two other overs early on a horny toad, they just didn't seem to want to eat that thing very well.  The rest of the day was slow.  Had to beat the banks for the other three unders.
