Mike- The water color was different all over the lake, (muddy to clear). I caught my fish in the clear water on a black & blue Santone jig. The fish were holding real tight to the trees. Not sure if my boat will ever dry out, it was still dripping water this morning.

Mike Cork

Yeah J.R. I can imagine how wet your boat got that was quite a bit of rain in a short time. Been there done that as I'm sure you have and we both will again. I must say though - that - those are some of the best times to be on Caddo though. Thanks for the insite.......

I threw 1/4 of evreything I own, Didn't have time for the rest, had to get to work. I have a tournament there on Saturday, I will try the other 3/4's.

The good news is that nature dictates that the have to eat sometime, I just know it wasn't this morning.

Casso and I went to Caddo and slayed the white bass.  Casso even limited out on black bass while fishing for the whites.  In all we probly caught around 75-100 fish and kept 20 or so of the bigger ones to eat.  The bigger ones averaged about 1-2 lbs.  It was fun because we used light spinning tackle which made the fish feel 5 lbs.  I have not felt that feeling to may times this year.  We enjoyed just sitting in one place catching fish all day.

In the river south of Johnson's and around Devil's Elbow. Small slab spoons worked best for us. Other's were catching on the usual baits, one guy said he did really well on a chartreuse road runner w/ a red head. They have also been catching alot of crappie. If you can't find them just get in the river and start fishing or run the river until you start seeing lots of boats. Just make sure the spoon is down deep near the bottom. It will get hung up but if you get over the top of it you can use the weight of the spoon to get off. Hope this helps. Hope this helps. If your not getting a bite bass fishing you owe it to yourself this time of year to give the whites a try.

Left work a little early yesterday and hit Caddo for a couple of hours. Caught 8 total, 4 over, 3 stlotter's, and 1 under. All came on a spinnerbait in the pad stems. Water temp was 54 degrees.

Chased the white bass fri and sun. Friday took my dad out to get some whites had some trouble finding them but once we did we did quite well. Also caught 5-6 large crappie. Most of our success came on cc spoons and the crappie came on rattle traps. Went back sunday w/ Vickers and once we found them again in a different spot we put a woopen on them. Filled up both my live wells with quite large white bass ( best size I've ever seen) and 5-6 good bass. Success on cc spoons. Forget having a few bites a day on each outing, with the way thier biting on caddo a few casts without a bite is rare. Bring an ultra light, some small/ midium size spoons, and head for caddo.

David,
are you finding them in channel bends outside or inside of the bend, since that is where I saw you friday or straight stretches.  we caught a few friday but had to fish all day and never found them bunched up.  I would really like to get in on some steady action.  when you are throwing the trap, are you letting it sink to the bottom then ripping it or just yo yo ing it in?

thanks

Steve-

The answer is yes. This is where and how I have been catching them. In the main river by star ditch?? ( the one that runs to Goose Praire)  and directly across there is another boat road that runs to red belly. start there  in the middle of the river. Spoons worked on the very bottom, unless you see them chasing shad, then under the school. Every time I go I catch them here, money in the bank, only problem is they are small. Start there work up river cast to the east side of the river. Continue to work up river. Work in the near middle of the river. When the docks start coming out on the east side of the river you will notice there is a tree sticking out maybe 3 feet from the rest and by that tree is a small ditch if you haven't found them in there or haven't caught any of any size leave.  Head up river past Johnson's around the bend, when you see that boat road that heads up to Jackson's arm stop, the one that passes right in front of Shady Glade Resturant that is very shallow. Get in the main river again and cast up on the pad and grass covered point and fish that ledge up river. ontinue to head up river when that point ends and trees begin turn around and fish the main river, just cast to open water. This is productive water until you reach the shallow flat that leads you to Gov't Ditch. When fishing the main channel here, again fish on the very bottom with spoons or traps. This is where I have been getting the white perch in the open channel on the bottom w/ traps. There is some hydrilla on the very bottom (+-9ft) shhhhh. Then where you saw me, everywhere in there. They tend to move around in there but thats where we caugh all the bass and all the good ones. We literally circled around there for hours and rarely went 4 casts w/o a bite! If you never have, drive around there alot criss crossing and watch your depth finder. Or when the lake floods next time go up there and watch how the water flows, holes, eddies, points, ledges, saddles, all that good stuff. Maybe we can hook up and give it a try. If you have any questions or want to go don't hesitate to give me a call.

dave,
thanks for all the info, I only wanted to know what kind of water you had been catching them in so I could find my own, but since you gave me your "secret holes" I will give them a try.

we moved a lot friday and never found the honey hole, we caught 2 over 3 lbs and thought we had figured them out only to waste 30 more min looking without a bite, it was very frustrating, I was trying to put Chase and his girlfriend Amanda on some white action but no luck.  are you off this week or any days maybe we can go back and rip them, what kind of cologne do you wear, do you spit on the cricket to get them to bite, may be I stink at more than fishing.  ;D

thanks

Fished Caddo on Sunday- Daylight till 2 pm. Caught a total of 12 on a spinnerbait, real shallow. All were 13 to 17 inches, no size but allot of fun. Water temp 59 to 62 degrees.

Gabby

Fished Caddo this morning with Trey and had no luck.  Got a few hits on a wobble worm (with Zoom Finesse & Tricks).  Not much to say, except the clarity was pretty good, the air was cold, and the water was below 50.

Fell in love with my new Rick Clunn combo from BPS.  Want to sell all my Curados and stock up on these reels!!!  8 bearings for $69....

Maybe fish will follow?

Marty

Gabby, I wouldn't get rid of those Curados!!!  I don't know how true it is, but I have read on another bass fishing web site, on their rods & reels board, that  a common situation with some of the BPS branded reels is that once they become a non-current model, meaning it's been replaced by a newer version, or just discontinued, it's almost impossible to get parts for replacement or repair.  I also read that many reel repair shops won't take them, mainly due to lack of parts or support.  I want to stress that I am not speaking from experience, but I do have some confidence in some of the people I got this info from, been "talking" to them for 5+ years now & they haven't led me astray yet.  On second thought, yeah, maybe you should get rid of those Curados right away!  Let me take them off your hands for, say....50 bucks apiece!  Yeah, that's the ticket!  I have 9 Curados already & could use a few more! ;D

BIG PAPA

Fished Caddo today with my grandson, 10 till 4.
This lake continues to mystify me, Friday Trey and I fished all day for about 5 bites and only boated 3, today they were much more aggresive as far as biteing although I had a lot of drops on a jig. We still managed to catch several overs and 3-4 slot fish.
they are in the shallowest water I have ever seen Bass of any size in. I told Fogy on here the other day that 18 inches was about the bottom, but I revise that to about 10 inches.

I love my Curados (especially my two SF Curados!), but I am VERY impressed with the performance of my new Clunn (despite not catching any fish :(  ).

I will give you two of my regular Curado b200s for $150 though!  I also have a 5:1 Curado.  Seriously, I will sell them to you!

BTW, yesterday some guy caught a 12 pounder on Caddo with a Carolina rig off of Jap Island.  I think he had a lizard and the lead was less than a foot.

Also, my buddy told me that HE heard someone caught a 12 pounder off of Little Green Break, at a different time, so there is a possible two 12 pounders coming out yesterday.

I KNOW one of them was weighed and released for a BASS Life replica, according to my source.

I hope I catch one like that sometime in this life....

Fished Caddo Saturday & Sunday.  Saturday caught 6 fish on a jig. Sunday I did not have a bite all day. The 12 pounder that Gabby is talking about was caught off the trees between Jap Island and Big Green Break, where the old slough is. It was caught on a jig in 4 feet of water, and weigh-in at Earl G. Williams Park.  I Just happen to be fishing the same area Saturday when she was caught.

Gabby, I think my wife would kill me if I bought any more reels right now!  She doesn't know yet that I just bought a new prop for my Yamaha!  As much as I love my Curados, I am considering upgrading them to Chronarchs, at least a few of them anyway.  I'll probably sell the Curados on ebay, I've had pretty good luck with that in the past.  Most of mine are fast speed reels, with only one that is 5.1, and no Super Frees.  As for catching a 12 pounder, I'm in the same boat as you on that deal, and I feel sure Caddo is the place to do it.  I did catch a 10 pounder a few years ago, but not in Louisiana.  It was in North Carolina, where I'm from.  The best Caddo bass I've caught so far is a little less than 8 pounds, good enough for a check in the Marshall Jaycees Big Bass Classic, and several between 5 & 7 lbs.  Keep plugging, you'll get one! ;D
