Makes sense what your saying Rick, I just think that scents and smells are marketed more to catch fisherman than the fish they are intended to lure. For me, and this is just my humble opinion, scents and attractants are to give that bass a reason to hold that bait a little while longer.

From the SW point of view, I think it helps a little bit. I tend to believe it helps with Snook and Redfish in shallow areas.
I don't know. The way fishing is going lately, I'll try anything.

j102

Lee, I hope you feel better soon.

J from a SW perspective it's a different ball game all together.

Copied Swede's post from July:
Congratulations Tress - once again nice haul!! Any time you can notch 100", especially in July, you know you've caught them good. I haven't had a month off the water in a long time - working on 5 weeks with my daughter's birthday this weekend - looks like maybe 6 weeks will be the thing.

Thanks, Swede. Looking forward to some of your Seminole pigs soon. Hope you can get on the water.
Thanks also to Rick, Cport, Lou. Hope all you guys have a better August than July was. I was definitely lucky to get a decent bag, but it was a grind. Before today, which was really good, I was afraid I would have nothing to go to for August. Looks like Lake "C" is going to be the main spot this month.

One my way to the kitchen this morning around 430 I had a spasm that put me on the floor. I finally managed to get to my feet, take my meds and get back in bed. I'm feeling a little better now but y'all are going to get a week or so head start. I'll be running y'all down as soon as I can...

Sent from the end of the paved road.....

Feel better my friend.

How are you doing this morning Lee? Hope your feeling better.

Sucks when those hit you, not much you can do about it but ride it out.

Deadeye

Tress your on 'em good this month. Your Lake C looks like a winner for sure.

I've got two lake/ponds I'd love to get on but it would take a boat like yours to do it. I might just find one used and go for it, as long as Moma doesn't complain to much. LOL.

I actually found what seems like a deal the other day. 8 1/2 ft Pond Hopper with trolling motor/battery/charger and a 8 ft kayak for $500.00. Don't know much about them but would think that would be a decent price.

On Scents for Baits, I'm a believer as I've seen the difference happen. One trip a friend and I were both throwing Watermelonseed Speedworms and just swimming them back in. I was using a scent and he was not. I had 7 in the boat and he had not had a hit yet. That day it made a difference.

I got away from using them and just started back using them again. I could n't find what I had used before (Berkly Bass Attractant) and got a bottle of Bang in Garlic. I can tell you it smells long after I spray it on.

Does it help? I think so when the water is really stained or tanic. Bass do have taste buds, that has been proven, so it makes sense that they could taste a scent in the water.

I have a bottle of that stuff and I don't even use it. Way to strong. I left a bait on my line that I had sprayed some of that stuff on and put it in the car. A few min later I could smell the garlic stench coming from my trunk. Took a couple days for the smell to leave my car.

Yeah, I try to keep these lakes in rotation, so as not to lean on any one of them too much. The Swamp had been an exception, because it is big and full of fish. But it has been off there lately. Lake "C" hadn't been great lately either, guess yesterday was its day. It's all cyclical.
As far as boats are concerned, that pond hopper does sound like a good deal. If you get one, make sure to check it for cracks, and make sure it doesn't have any water in it already. I used to have an 8' just like the one I have now. It got wrecked one morning in the back of my worktruck when some idiot rear-ended me. I went right out got another one that week, a 10'. Man, that extra room makes a world of difference. I highly recommend the longer boat.
These boats are superior to a kayak for bass fishing for the following reasons:
-You can fish standing up. I know you can technically stand on a kayak, but with nowhere near the stability and mobility. You can't flip and pitch sitting down.
-You can store way more rods, and like on a bass boat, they are laying down, out of your way. With my buddy in the boat one day, we had 13 rods.
-You can move around, sit or stand, stretch your legs. Store tackle box/bag under the seat. I converted my seat into a flippin deck, and it's awesome for sight fishing as well.
-You can bring a friend. I put the flippin deck in the middle of the boat, and we both have room to stand at the front and back. When one of us wants to rest or re-rig, we can take a seat for a minute.
-360 degree castability.  If schoolers pop up behind your boat, just cast.
-I use a minnkota co-pilot, and it is ideal. When I get tangled in weeds, cleaning off the blade is super easy. I don't know how you would clean the blades on a pedal kayak, but it seems it would be a p.i.a. Plus, I can raise the motor, tilt it back and plow through some heavy mess, just like you do with a big boat.
-If you do happen upon a gator, at least you're standing up, and not eye to eye. These boats can not sink, and are very stable. You can stand all the way on the gunwale and not flip one.

Basically, these little boats can be set up to be a mini bass boat. Kayaks are fun for certain things, like running rivers rapids, but for bass fishing, get a Bass Hunter, Pond Prowler, Pelican, etc...I paid $100 for my first one, and $300 for the second. I already had the trolling motor from my old bass boat. Also bought a mini-trailer for $300. The whole setup was around $1500.

Those little tins if set up correctly can be very versatile. Given an option, I would choose a little tin over a kayak. For the reasons Tress posted above. Also, I view kayaking as exercise, and exercise is very good for you, but having to exercise and fish, just don't go well with me.... lmao!!

I have also considered the exercise portion of fishing when bank fishing. That is why I try to cover the least amount of water as possible. If I cover a lot of water it means I have to do a lot of walking. Walking goes against my belief that fishing is for fun. This is why I soak a 10 inch worm for 30 minutes in one spot.    ~roflmao

Lol!! Very true Rick... walking the banks is exercise. I guess since I don't like kayaking I consider it more like exercise, then a fun process to reach fishing grounds... lol

The problem is a little tin is heavier and not towed around as easy with out a trailer as a kayak. But I guess it can be done. I have thought about this as well.

I might go with a Nucanoe aka a plastic kayak style canoe. It is wide enough to stand on and I can put a TM on it. Plus I can hand walk it to the bank to launch.

I don't know lol so many options!!!

j102

West,
These guys are not helping your Kayak decision. lol
I never heard of Nucanoe before, but I just went online and it looks good. An interesting option.

Deadeye, good luck with the boat.  Looks like you will have fishing partners for a long time.  The boys will love it! ~c~

West, the pond boats aren't that hard to move around. I have a homemade dolly, just left the Swamp where I have to park about 200 yards from the water. I cart it back and forth all the time. My other ponds I can park near the water, and just drag the rig a few feet. It's a little work, but I'd think loading a yak on top of an suv would be tough as well. The benefits on the water outweigh all the transportation issues.
I looked at nucanoes also when I got into this small water thing. I'm glad I have the boat I use.

Yea but a pond boat barely fits in a truck bed, actually only a few models do. Remember I will have a trailer (RV) attached as well. I need the bed for a tool box and generator and stuff as well. So a boat that fills it all up is not really an option.

I looked at them, but at the weight and barely fit ting my 8' bed. Lots of stable and light enough to toss on top a ladder rack kayaks out there.

Now just which one do I want... lol

I will probably get a Pescador Pilot 120 or a Nucanoe Frontier 10' and a TM.
