What a rough month! Maybe I will get out some if this heat slacks any. Good luck everyone.

Swede

I really need to see the water from inside my boat again - been too long. Have replaced hoses and pumps in back though and that does feel good to know my fish will remain in good condition until weigh-in time. Good luck this month everyone!!

Hot again today. Got 6 but pretty small.

This one kind of made up for the others. Just missed the Hawg Wall at 21.25 and 4 lb 10 oz.

Way to kick it off, Fred. That's a chunky monkey right there.

SFL BassHunter

Nice one Fred! Not a Hawg Wall fish but it's darn close.

Nice job Deadeye. What did you get your fish on?

Flats like most days I started with several rods on the deck and mostly it was Junk Fishing. One fish on a Speedworm, one on a Trick Worm fished on a Drop Shot, One on a Fluke, One on a Buzz Toad, and Two Flipping.

I had been Flipping with a set-up from the last time where I had found some thick stuff and had used a 1 1/4 weight. I think It was dropping to fast in the Kissimmee Grass I was fishing with it. When I seen the bait had torn beyond use, I decided to switch bait and weight. I didn't have a 1 oz so I went with a 3/4, added a punch skirt in Black n Blue and switched to a Bitters Flapping Craw in Black n Blue.

About the 5th Flip I felt a small hit and hooked a 6-7 inch fish. At least I knew they liked it. About 30 minutes later saw the line move and set the the hook on the big girl.

Interesting story on the choice to use the Bitters Craw. I was going to switch but to what I didn't know. I had been using a Havoc bait of some sort. I said "ok Lord show me what to use" and reached into my bag and came out with the new bait. Wasn't what I would of choose and was similar to what I was using and close in color, but went with it. I've learned to listen when I ask for help and go with it.

Have you guys tried adding some scents to your baits?
It's been tough, maybe a little help?

That won't help...
Scents are for fish to hold onto your bait a little longer

I think scent can help in certain situations. I find it useful when bass are picking my bait up by the tail, or short striking. I add some scent to the top of the bait by the hook to entice them to put the entire thing in their mouth.  :o
Also when they are spitting it out quickly.
On few occasions it may have helped me catch fish.
I used to use KVD Fishsticks (Craw or Shad) and when I wasn't catching anything I would apply some and I would start catching some fish. Since using Megastrike it's more like what Lou said. When I am done with the megastrike I'll be going back to the Fishsticks.

Well, if it makes them go eat the entire lure, it might attract them to it. It might make them go after it and bite.

I don't personally believe a scent is going to entice a fish to bite, bass are visual hunters first and auditory second.

Hunters use their noses quite often. A lot of fish use their noses too. Now bass might be more visual and use their lateral line a little more than other fish, BUT I bet if they get a whiff of something tasty it may help entice them.

Now I think unnatural smells like say coffee scent, that may not entice them to bite, that helps get rid of human smell and helps them hold on to it. Shad smell, or craw smell could potentially draw their attention if they get a whiff.

That is just my uneducated opinion on it, while thinking like a human that sometimes may smell tasty food that isn't in my view, but start to get hungry after getting a whiff of it.

Makes sense what your saying Rick, I just think that scents and smells are marketed more to catch fisherman than the fish they are intended to lure. For me, and this is just my humble opinion, scents and attractants are to give that bass a reason to hold that bait a little while longer.

One my way to the kitchen this morning around 430 I had a spasm that put me on the floor. I finally managed to get to my feet, take my meds and get back in bed. I'm feeling a little better now but y'all are going to get a week or so head start. I'll be running y'all down as soon as I can...

I'm with Lou on this one. I always use it because I think it might make them hold on a little longer. It also  lubes the bait to help it slide through vegetation, especially when punching.
