Thursday would be you and Mike (you will be the one sleeping), Papa and Trey, and myself.  As far as the time, I'm flexible.  I get up at 4:00 a.m. every morning.  We do need to think about rush hour traffic for getting out of town.  I had originally thought about leaving around 7:00 a.m., but that will put us in heavy traffic.  At that time, it might take me 45 minutes just to get in Airline.

Ok so maybe I will be sleeping but if I am it will be because I was here all night trying to take care of last minute things since I am pretty sure Mike isn't going to let me take the computer with me...

I really do think that 7am is a bit tooooooo early. Mike is still on funky shifts and i dont think that will change by then so please keep in mind that he doesn't even get home most nights until 4am... (6am this morning hense his absents :( )

I was thinking more like 9 or 10 ish... but I know that we want to take a look around the river so he might vito that and want to leave early.

We do have Friday to look around.  I figure it will take 4 to 4 1/2 hours to get there.  Now that is at my speed...and I am not a "race car driver".  One of the roads we will be on is curvy, hilly, two lane.  And we do need to make sure that we are not harassed by the...  PoPo

You could always get a laptop with wireless internet service...  ;D

Well if we are not on the lake what then will we be doing? I know I am looking forward to some relax time but ummmmmm I relax best on the lake  v~ ~cf

Since I know the way...whoever is driving is at my mercy.  And I might nap on the way down too.  lo

We will be on the boat...bass boat (I might have to fight off the temptation to go to the "other" boats.)  >:D

Is 171 the quickest way? Seems like that little 2 way road would be slower. I was thinking I-49 to alexandria then 165S to I-10 to Lake Charles then up to moss bluff. Should be around  3 1/2 to 4 hours.

Then again, I have never been there so I could be wrong!

Jared LeBlue

I can see the trip down will be an adventure all it's own. I can't till yall get here.

Highway 171 is two lane at times.  I have been both ways...to Alexandria and to I-20 to Lake Charles, and I have been 171.  The reason I chose 171 is because it brings us in on the north side of Lake Charles, which is where we need to be.  I heard that there is road construction on 171 around Lake Charles but I don't know if it extends to Moss Bluff.

I learned this way from my ex mother-in-law.  She married a guy down there and he use to travel to Arkansas A LOT and she started travelling down there also.  They swear by the 171 route.

And men don't need directions  ;D

That's cool...I just don't like driving any longer than necessary and I KNOW i would rather stay away from construction areas!

Wildcat26

There is some construction on 171 for about 20 miles north of Lake Charles. It usually is not bad however you can usually do 50 thru the area. I do not know about 171 above Leesville. The fastest way to Lake Charles from Shreveport is to take I-49 to Natchitoches.  Turn West on Hwy 6 for 5 to 10 miles and turn South on Hwy 117 which takes you in to Leesville.  Now the problem is 117 is hilly.  I have driven it with a horse trailer and did not have any trouble but it is hilly.

When you reach Moss Bluff you will be going south on 171. At the light at Hwy 378(Sam Houston Jones Parkway) you will turn right. On the corners clockwise are a Walgreens, Exxon, Wendy's, and a bank.
You proceed west for approxicatly 6 miles. Look for park signs, it will be a right off  hwy 378 then a left at the first stopsign and you are in the park.

Wildcat26

I put in about 2 hours on the river yesterday after work to "check out some spots for the out of towners".  Did not catch much but one was interesting.  It had the striping and rough tongue of a Kentucky but it had a horizontal white stripe on both gill plates.  I have never seen that before.

Right now it looks like there will be between 22 to 25 people fishing. Now with our club those numbers could go up. We have several guys who are famous for waiting until the last minute to say they are going to fish. We won't mention any names here. ;D
