Thanks Rick. I can't help you on the high reel seats. All of my reels feel great to me. You sure the rod didn't make the Shimano feel taller?

lol no, I have tried it on several rods.
I also had 2 of the DC7's. Both felt the same on different rods. The lews, and Daiwa's I have don't feel that way to me.

Doesn't really matter, I won't be switching to Shimano any time soon. I really like my Tatula's. I was just curious.
PB: 6lbs 5oz / 24.25 inches.
Rods/Reels Dobyns, 13 Fishing, Cabelas Arachnid, Daiwa Tatula CT, Tatula SVTW, Tatula Tactical, Tatula Type R

Gotcha man. I've never really played with the dc reels, so I wouldn't know. The DC7 was on an E series frame, correct? I have been wanting to try a Daiwa for the last year, but can't decide on the model.

SV103, and if you act soon, Tackle Trap just got a bunch of NIB ones in. They are $239.95

I thought these were discontinued?

If it's the same one I have, it's an awesome reel!!

I switch between E's, I's, Metaniums, and now this K. I can grab any of them at any time and go to work immediately with no learning curve.

I like the K brakes better. They're easier to operate and much more quiet. I'll have to look at my I's when I get home for the settings. I know that they usually have one block on internally, but not sure on the external dial.

No learning curve? That says a lot about the engineering quality. Can't say that about all reels, that is for sure.

Do post your settings on the two when you can. Like you, I only use one brake shoe turned on at a time. And the dial on my i is around 4. So really minimal brake use and they cast fantastic- even better with the new full ceramic bearings.

I hope Shimano kept the same spool bearing size so I can just transfer the bearings over to the new curados as I buy them one by one.

Not sure if I will sell all the i's though. I am now selling my old CU-201BSF reels. I just never use them so out they go... now in the display case at work along with some other reels like my abu revos... and soon to be in there Johnny Morris reels and Browning... It just don't pay to sit on a box full of reels I no longer use.

Kind of ironic today at work was a curado repair day with some old B's and one 200E7 that looked like it took a stray .22 calibre bullet that destroyed the reel and the guy actually brought it in asking if it could be fixed with a severely bent frame and bent spool and destoyed side plate. We told him no it could not be repaired since parts are no longer available but he could buy one off ebay for $125. I hope he just gives us the reel because those parts that are still good are like curado gold.

Can't wait to get my first curado k!

How do you compare the brakes between the i and k model?

What are your settings on each? Any trouble or issues going back and forth or getting use to one or the other?

Do you have a preference for either the i or k brakes yet?

This issue is my only real concern between the two and makes the difference to me whether or not I make the leap into the new reel and let go of all my i models.
Was able to dial this thing in pretty well this morning. I forgot to flush the spool bearings last, but these cast great. I'm getting a solid 30-40 yards without maximum effort. The Power Pro broke in and went limp letting this reel sail baits.

Curado I Settings: 1 block on internally
                           1 on the external wheel

Curado K Settings: 2 blocks on internally
                            2 on the external wheel

On the K, it's castable with the wheel on 1 without in real improvement. Had to be really careful not to overrun the spool. 2 on the wheel is smooth casting with good distance and almost no thumb. I'm happy!

ccr425

So I flushed and oiled the stock bearings, which made a difference for sure. This guy casts really good now. I can sling toads a good 40 yards pretty consistently without any aid from wind. I need to try casting something lighter like a fluke. Curious how it casts lighter lures. Also, I've noticed that this reel is built tight with pretty much no play anywhere. A friend of mine picked up one today and I helped him get it going pretty good. He's loving the smoothness and XG ratio for toads and frogs. It was his first Shimano and I think that he gets it now!

Good to hear. There are a few YouTube videos on a guy casting a 1/4 oz crank and he was getting decent distance.

Yeah, I saw the video that you linked. That's what made me curious.

Just a quick update on this reel.

I've been fishing this reel paired with a Dobyns Champion 735c full handle for a few trips now and I must say that it's a keeper! I've been really hard on this setup trying to find a flaw. It hasn't skipped a beat while winching in 6 pounders through the pads and weeds. The only thing that bugs me is a kinda squeak when I press the clutch to cast. It's been doing it since about my fourth trip out with it. Feels like plastic on plastic friction?? Not sure what to think about it, but it doesn't affect operation at all.

Push the thumb bar down, and put a drop of oil on each friction pad the sides of the thumb bar ride on. See if that takes care of the noise.

This^

That thumb bar is redesigned and has much more tighter tolerances than previous models. I used some grease on both sides. Never have had a squeak yet

ccr425

LMG, I tried the oil and it helped. I'll try it like this for the next trip and if it doesn't stay quiet I'll try some grease like Rock suggested. I preciate the tips!
