09Aldebaran MG meets Avail spool

On the move with making a few changes to my reels, this is another spool swap being made. Avails honeycomb spool, made for the Curado50E/Scorpion XT1000/Core50/09Aldebaran. This is gonna get spooled with 10lb Senshi for tossing light baits. Its gonna take the place of my PX68R.

Not switching, Ive always had Shimanos. That being said, they are all older models below 2009. Im not a fan of their newer reels. I keep the old and trusted, not the new and busted.

Holy crap this spool is a game changer! Really woke this reel up. It is soo much better than the PX68R was in casting. Unfair due to the spool change, but it is what it is. I started with 4 tabs on, then switched to 2. Amazing distance and control with a small creature bait and 1/32oz weight.

Got out a bit today on my lunch break to do some casting with this rig. Still very impressed with the outcome of this setup. The reel, the rod, and the line all pair nicely for the intended purpose. I was able to even cast without worries in the wind, which was blowing about 10-15mph at some point. I didnt catch any fish, and really didnt see any for that matter.  But the whole thing just felt soo good to cast. I cant wait till I get the Scorpion out with that Yumeya spool.

Dang - You are getting the monkey on my back

I was considering getting the SHIMANO ALDEBARAN 50HG but you are making me look into the SHIMANO ALDEBARAN 09 since the price on ebay is little better and it might be more solid. The only way I can get those is from Japan

Definitely a better reel. The build quality is better on the older Shimanos IMO. You can find them with prices all over the spectrum depending on the condition of the reel. Fair is anywhere from 150 to 200. I managed to find 2 that were basically new in box.

I'm pretty sure the 09 ALDEBARAN is more refined compare to the 15 Model and more metal feel.

For that remark is due that many people say it feels like plastic based on what I read. However, it does not hurt the performance of it

The 15 Aldebaran is a great little reel. It's almost a full ounce lighter than the 09. You have the ability to get it in the HG version which will speed it up a little bit over the 09. However the 09 you can get a 5 gear model for cranking if you wanted to.

The 15 has X-ship and SVS which can make for a smoother retrieve and you can fine tune the drag better. Both are magnesium reels, so you will get the best feel with each.

Honestly, I prefer the 09 over the 15. I owned one for a few weeks but sold it. I'm partial to the E series design and the side plate attaches.

I've got mine sitting on a G. Loomis BRC803 GLX and with 30# braid, this combo is so sensitive is scary how a setup almost 10 years old competes with the newest tech.

I have a couple combo's that make you smile just by holding it. This is near the top of that list.

With a simple gear swap in the 09Aldebaran you can go from 5.8, 6.4, 7.0, or 7.7

Decided to take the carbon fiber handle off this reel and put it on the Conquest. MG7 handle installed, and waiting for the knobs to arrive.

That is neat being able to cast fly-weight stuff with a baitcaster.
