I wish all tournaments would adopt the MLF "weigh and release" or some similar format to relieve stress on the fish.

I just watched a tournament in Texas, hosted by Fish Fishburn, where they kept bass in bags/tanks for several hours while maneuvering to win an hourly big fish prize. No way can this be good for a big bass. I wonder how many die from stress?

Yup just like any streaming service. You click on the bar and it takes you forward or backwards.

Nice! Thanks!

Barry I've seen those shows to, Bass Champs or the like where they weight in One Fish for Biggest Bass of the Hour. Top 5 get money, with biggest of the 2-day event get a boat.

Not sure how they would do that MLF Style, but I do love the format and wish more Clubs would switch over to it. You watch those fish get out into a Livewell then watch those guys hitting the waves at 70+ and the boat getting beat to sh!t, you know those fish are beat to heck as well. Then add that they LOVE to do their TX's here in Fl during the Spawn so it disturbs the Bedding Process and it may be days before they are released back into the system.

I really wish the State would Outlaw Tourneys during the Spawn. I know it would be hard as different areas hit at different times, but it could be done by Zones.

SFL BassHunter

Fred I think the MLF style could be implemented in those as well. You just need to have an official on board to weigh the fish. But essentially you would only track the heaviest weight as opposed to tracking all the fish and adding them together. Same concept though. The toughest part with MLF style is making sure you have some trustworthy officials. There would also probably have to be pictures or video of the fish. Perhaps measuring it length and girth wise so that someone can't say their 15 inch fish weighed 10 lbs even though there was 8 lbs of lettuce hanging out its mouth during the weigh in.

Does make things tough.

I got me a measuring board so I can now submit catches.  Now I just need to get some catches.  I'm going to Turkey Lake in a few weeks with my mom's boyfriend while they are hear visiting, so if not before then hopefully then.

That's a good lake to catch some fish at.

I hope to find some this time.  I've been there once, and couldn't catch a cold.  Maybe less trying to flip and more moving baits this time.

In honor of our newest member, Adam (welcome, and good luck), and in reference to measuring and photographing bass, allow me to re-open a thread we had a while back. This is how I get foolproof results when measuring my catches.
1. Close the mouth and pinch the tail, and place the mouth on the bump of the measuring board. If you are using a board without a bump, or a tape measure, put the mouth at "0".
2. At this point, you know the fish's measurement. Grab your camera or phone and take the pic. If the fish moves, or opens its mouth, it's not a big deal. We, and more importantly, Lou, can see the whole fish and measuring device, so even if the fish moves a little, the evidence is there.
3. Grab the fish's tail, still pinched, and place it on the mark you have already recorded in your head.
4. Take the close-up pic.
5. If you don't want your fish to flop around while being photoed, catch bigger fish...they don't move as much, lol, jk, jk!

Great advice here. Thanks Tress!!

Good Job on the taking Pics list Tress, that's exactly how I do it too. And your right, the Big Ones don't flop around as much.

Rick I think the biggest thing holding MLF back is the entire Generation that has been brought up and is used to Catching the Big 5, Being On Stage, Holding up the Fish for the Crowd to See, with the Look At Me syndrome.

It is what they are used to and anything that makes that go away is looked at as a threat and therefore No Good.

Take my Brother for instance, not in fishing but with hunting. Pa did away with wearing your license in a plastic carrier pinned to the center of your back to the same style of fold-up paper that Fl uses so you can carry them in your wallet. I saw he was still carrying his in that holder pinned on his back and asked him about it. It was like I started a WAR and ended with him saying "I started hunting with my license on my back and I'll wear it there until the day I die".

People fear what is different and they do not understand. I would bet in 20 years there will still be a few Big 5 Tournaments but most will be a MLF Format.

Any of you guys ever feel your getting Burnt Out on chasing Bass?

I love it, Think about it when I'm not doing it, Plan and Prepare for it. Then when I'm out fishing and they are not biting my mind begins to wander quickly. Especially when it's hot like it is now. I start to think about types of fishing and when they are best.

Spring: Bass

Summer: Bluegill & other Sunfish

Fall: Bass & don't forget about Hunting

Winter: Speckle Perch

Over the years I have found that this is what seems to be biting the best, yet I stick will my 1st Love, Bass. Part if it, well a lot of it has to do with this Contest and needing to post a good limit. Lately though I have started thinking about doing some other types of fishing for a change of pace and see what happens.

Anyone else ever feel like your getting Burnt Out on chasing one species only?

What you just explained is partially why I decided for a 30 day break Fred.

Capt. BassinLou

I'm currently not burnt out. I just can't find time to fish.

Our YouTube channel is doing pretty well. Most large channels say it takes 2 or 3 months to hit 100 subscribers. Then it picks up.

We did our research and are producing quality stuff from the beginning.

We hit 100 subs in 3 weeks. We climbed 60 more and then... We have gained 24 subs in the last 22 hours. With just over 500 views already on the latest video released yesterday.

I know 184 people doesn't sound like a lot, but we are happy to be doing so well and hope it stays that way! Today marks one month since we started. I am stoked!

We are going to Wekiva Springs this weekend for our first RV trip, also the first vacation together in the last two years.

I am looking forward to relaxing and floating in the springs in this heat!

Saltwater fishing! You have inshore, offshore, wrecks, reefs, you have the flats, the beach, etc., all while targeting different and multiple species.
Bass fishing is a lot of fun, but it is more fun to do both, fresh and saltwater fishing.

I think I know what you mean here Fred. When the fishing gets real tough like it is right now, I plan on fishing, I think about it and then when the time comes I have to really push myself to get out there and do it.
The other day at the park I saw enough big fish to cull 4 of mine for sure. I couldn't get them to bite. It's discouraging.
I could target Peacock which would be a blast, and I think might be willing to bite. I attracted several of them the other day while bass fishing. I think if I focused on them I could turn a skunked day into a fun day of fishing lol.
But with the competition ain't nobody got time for that. The competition is an addiction. I get a thrill out of competition and though this is a friendly bragging competition I still take it pretty seriously as I want to keep improving. Even though I know my chances of winning are slim, very very slim, it's more about improving. If this year I place better than last, and overall I do better in inches than last then it's a win in my book.

Summer is tough no doubt, I would take a boat outing over a bank fishing outing. I know I will find something when boating, bank fishing is brutal right now

FD

Right now I'm fishing for air conditioning. For two weeks in a row we've been pushing 100 degrees here in the middle of the state.

Tomorrow my oldest and I are headed to Kissimmee at his request. We will see how long it takes for us to melt....
