Not by choice.  A 4+ gar made off with the brown one about 10 casts later so I was forced to switch to the tree frog color

Fun day today even though I got soaked. Went to a pond I haven't been to lately where I caught the 4 lber in April but not a lot since; nice and full from the rain. Saw the water was a little muddy so I threw something I haven't thrown there yet. Tied on a 3/0 EWG Gamakatsu with a 1/8 oz bullet, and T rigged a 7 1/4" Black Blue Flake BPS Swipe Tail. At first I started swimming it, as I knew the whole pond is pretty weedy, but it seems as if some of the weeds have cleared out. So then I threw it and let it sink to the bottom, reeled in the slack and he was there, a nice 15.5 incher. I caught a few more small ones, nothing under 11.5 (didn't take a picture of him) all but one on the initial fall, and unbuttoned another 12-13 incher at the bank. Last fish was my biggest, a 17.75 that took it from the middle of the pond.

As you can see, I was soaked to the bone. I stayed out when it was light rain, but when it poured, I took shelter under the apartment balcony. I may have caught a few more if not for that. All total, 5 fish in an hour, with one coming unpinned, and I missed a few taps. The bite was really on, and I hated to leave, but I had to pick up the little darlings.

Not to toot my horn to much  :toot: , but I was very happy with my lure change paying off, it really boosted my confidence. I'm trying more not to rely on one type of bait (you guys know which one I'm talking about LOL) and learning to read conditions and select lures accordingly. I have learned a lot from you guys on this board. Also, every stick was in the top of the mouth. And I got a small case of bass thumb!  ~gf

As Lou will tell you, frog fishing is a commitment, especially the big toads. 2 hours with 3 fish, but it usually produces bigger fish.

Your fish with the short tail is probably not a result of spawning, that is normally only the bottom. Something tried to make a meal out of him....

I'm sure you're right about that. He was such a decent fish, and the injury was still bloody, and the pond is rather small at an apartment complex; I didn't even consider something trying to eat him.

Another 3 hours with the toad this morning. Only 3 bites, one huge miss that launched the toad about 10 yards left, then the 5 and a 7+. It started getting sparkly out so I headed back for some lunch....to be continued shortly. I need one more good fish to break 100 in 24 hours.

Lee, how are your shoulder and neck holding up with all this frogging? Frogging is tough on you after several hours.

Not great but it's not often I get to fish on a weekday so I'm sucking it up. I'm on the porch on an ice pack right now getting ready for round 3 Toad vs Pig....
