Still in the break in stage with my PT190 115 4stroke mercury but I am only getting 45mph out of it which to me seems a little low. I was expecting 50-52mph based on my previous boat 2013 pt175 with a 60hp 4 stroke mercury I was getting about 34mph so I figured a motor 2x the size and a boat that is a little bigger and heavier would achieve much more speed. The PT195 with a 150 merc is getting 55-58mph and that boat is only wider than the PT190 with an extra 35 horses on the back.

From all the testimonials I see on this particular boat, you are correct on the top speed of 50-52 mph. Some of the factors that usually effect boat speed are the prop being used, and the height of the motor.

When you finish break in go back to the dealer and start working with the set up, prop, motor height etc.

If no jackplate motor needs to be in the 2nd hole down from top.

Nearing the end of my break in and still only getting 46mph out of it. Was hoping for around 50mph. Would a different prop help or would I just be wasting my money? Motor is 2nd hole from the top and I'm only getting about 5200rpms unless I trim the motor all the way up at which point the boat starts bouncing until I trim it back down. Seems like the prop is the issue but I'm no expert.

As I mentioned before it all depends upon what your Prop to pad measurement is.  I don't think you are too far off if you are getting 46 GPS.  Prop swap can get real expensive real quick if you don't understand all of the numbers of the set up.  5200 rpms seems low and I was thinking 5800 would be your max expectation.  Your prop might be a bit low in the water or perhaps to much pitch.  Can you publish your prop pitch and your prop to pad measurement?   Is your motor hitting the rev limiter at 5200?

My nephew just bought a PT190 with the 115.  His top end is 46.  With the two of us in the boat it topped out at just under 44.  Mercury tested the PT190 with the 115 and hit 46.  The Merc 90 on the PT190 achieved 43.6

So I ended up trying out a few different props and went with a 4 blade 12 3/4" x 19p spitfire 4 blade prop. The motor feels like its supercharged, great hole shot, mid range punch and a top speed of 50 with one person and 48 with two people. The only issue is the transom gets a little squirmy at high speeds. Not sure if that's chine walk or what but its a little scary.

Nice to here you got the speed up a bit. Now you just got to get adjusted to your new boat.  ~beer~

That squirreling this is because your prop is hooked up good but it is too low in the water. Your motor needs to be mounted in the third hole down from top. Especially with the four blade prop
But this will raise your rpms alittle to

Yep, Lou and Glenn have it pegged, when you get the height right you'll pick up a bit more speed also.

Thank you for the feedback guys, I appreciate the input... 40-45 seems to be a good cruising speed and the only way I'd run 50 is if the water is like a sheet of glass. I didn't get the squirmy feeling when it was flat calm but a little bit of chop and she was dancing.

How hard is it to raise the outboard? Right now I am at the factory setting which is the very first mounting hole.

I have an engine hoist. So it's pretty easy for me. But if you have some way to pick up a 300 pound motor it is not hard at all. Raise the motor up enough to where you see weight coming off of the trailer. Then on both the four bolts raise up and reinstall the bolts with new 5200 Caulk. Some people don't like it but what I do for my boats as I turn the boats around on the bottom so that the nut is on the outside. Another words all the nuts are on the outside not inside the boat. This allows me to torque them withouttrying to get a tour wrench inside the bilge. House once you put the 5200 on the bolts and run them through you really don't want to turn that boat what so ever you want to put the nut on and torque it down without moving that Bolt so it keeps a watertight seal. And these boats have enough play in the steering cable and electrical cables that you don't have to worry about raising it up and binding anything. Most tracker aluminum boats run best in the second hole down from the top. 60 hp through 90 hp. A 115 on a 190 boat needs to be in the third hole down. Especially if it's has a four blade.

I looked last night and there is a lip on the very top of the transom where the motor mounts that if I raise the motor even one bolt hole the motor will not sit right on the transom and there will be a small gap between the motor mount and transom. If you have a tracker take a look but I had second thoughts as soon as I saw it.

gatorglenn

Not a problem, plenty of boats mounted that way. Mine was for a while.

but some jackplates put a notch in the top for that. This is a Vance 3" JP I had on the boat.
