I have to say that so far, out of the latest binge the SV103 remains a favorite -- like a reliable friend.  I am using the H for skipping on a LSCR built for that very thing.....amazing. 

But, - I have not picked a favorite out of those 4 yet. --> Diawa Ito, SV103H, Shimano Excense DC, and Shimano Anteras

The exsence is just in a whole different class.  it'll skip, it'll most definitely chuck them, and has some nice spool control features.  I was only home for one day before getting back on a plane today....but I am really happy with all 3 I purchased. 

Trying out the anteras next time I am home.  Hopefully the Ito shows up by then.....

What made those little 50E reels so damned special? I hear they're like finding hens teeth to get one.

The size and power of the reels. They were just the perfect reel in my eyes, and apparently everyone else's too. I don't think there has been a more popular Shimano out there. They tried to bring it back with the 70, but you can see most people are selling them off not long after owning them. The 50E platform had to be most solid built, ergonomic friendly reel out there. And the fact that you can't find them, and if you do you are gonna pay a pretty penny for them.
