Forgive me father for I have sinned. Lol. Yeah, yeah, what the?! Yes, LMG bought an Abu. Go ahead, get it out the way now. Ill pause for the comments....

Anyway, the reason I purchased this is 1) Lots of positive reviews on the redesign and JDM inspiration. 2)The price was pretty killer.

One promising looking thing so far, the use of a full floating spool.

Let me just say this sucker is LIGHT! And TINY! I think Abu is trying to get up in that Aldebaran, Pixy, small reel kinda thing, and I like it. The looks are killer, and the overall appeal is very eye catching. Very smooth while turning the handle as well. Stay tuned, because Im gonna tear into this sumbeach and see what the insides are like.

Not looking to bling it. Actually need to tear into it and "tighten" it up a bit.

Does look good. Abu left a bad taste in my mouth because my first baitcadster was a Walmart Abu with no brakes. I guess they actually make some JDM stuff too.

I had a whole mess of Gen 2 Revo S's and STX's. Loved those reels too. I would still have them had I not dumped them all for the Gen 3 piles of dog crap Abu said where "The best yet". Dumped them all and went to Shimano.

Unfortunately all the Major Players have the cheap Walmart stuff and it kills their rep. I wish they would just make a 100 dollar reel as the bottom line and be done with it, instead of the 30-40, 50-75 etc range.

Matt, you get another one and I'm scheduling a damn intervention!

Sorry I couldn't get you a better price on one. Glad you got one though, and looking forward to your expert opinion once you give it the official LMG treatment.

Family that works there. I got the new Morrum coming this week and got the MGX Xtreme last week. Pretty good stuff from ABU these days.

Your price was pretty dead on. I just didnt want to bother you unless it was worth it. I appreciate the help anyways. If I like it, I may hit you up for that handle though.  lo

Honestly my favorite reel by Abu right now is the regular MGX. Thing is smooth and will cast a damn mile. Time will tell the true tale though. How do they hold up.

Just bought my third Abu Garcia rod/reel. I got a Revo SX and the new Vendetta Rod. Cannot wait to try it out.

Abu is legendary and I love their gear (obviously) lol

I got this reel spooled with 20lb Seaguar Senshi mono, and was tossing it around this morning a bit. I was using a 1/4oz tungsten weight and a 6" lizard, so lets say the total was somewhere around 10-12g. I set the spool tension to eliminate side play, and put the brakes at half. Holy smokes! This spool is fast! OK, readjust, set them to 3/4 the way. Much better, but still not enough. Set all the way, and then 2 clicks down, and finally nice smooth controlled casts. With the brakes that high you would think the casting distance would be affected? Nope, I tell you its an easy 40yds with this reel. I have to say, so far im impressed with the casting ability. It actually casts further than my Scorpion 70 did, and with more ease and control. Pitching a bait is very easy and controlled as well.

For the downfalls that I have noticed so far. Finish isnt quite what Im used to in a reel. I think for $249.95 MSRP they could have put a better finish on the reel. Some things need a little tightening. For instance, Im gonna have to shim the knobs to get them snug, and the palm plate seems to move slightly if you actually try to move it once locked into position.

Palming the reel is a little different than what I am used to. Since this reel doesnt have a fat nose piece, I cant palm the reel with my index finger around the front. If I do the levelwind is what I grab, so I hold it a little differently. Its OK, I have it on the Fenwick Aetos, and its more comfortable to hold a reel on that particular rod in that way. I cant wait to get it out and get some fish on this thing.

I'm curious to see how you like it. I am a big ABU fan, and have 3 gen 1 Revo Premiers. Super smooth reels after iI thoroughly cleaned and tweaked them. I was going to buy the ALX and instead I recently bought (3) MGX reels for $150 each, and am hoping they are all that everyone says they are. Please post your feedback.

I'm curious about actually using this reel as a frogging reel. Branden, you tried tossing frogs with this reel yet?
