I grew up freezing my ass off on strawberry and clear creek with my grandpa throwing power bait for trout.

They have smallmouth  and some big ones at that. But not many folks fishing for them. Definitely more of a trout state.

Flaming Gorge has some really nice smallmouth. Also East Canyon Reservoir just east of SLC. That's where the state record cutthroat came out a couple of years back too. Echo Reservoir has smallmouth also, but the fishing there is a bit meh. I travel a lot to Salt Lake and usually chase trout, but when I lived in Wyoming, my buddies and I would fish Flaming Gorge for the macs and brown bass. Highly underrated!

I'll probably hit up East Canyon next time I'm in SLC and it's not frozen!
