Sorry for the silly question but I just bought a really nice condition 1992 Champion bass boat and it has a switch that says "live well open and live well close" can someone explain to me the function of this...I had the live well full of water when I put the boat back on the trailer and the water drained out with that open / close switch in either position.

You'll have to look in the bilge area and see what's going on. Sounds like either the cable is broken and not moving the valve, or the valve is broken and not changing position. I've seen the cable simple come off and only need reconnected.

My Champ has the same lever. On my 204, it is located below the shift/throttle lever on the sidewall by the floor.
Check the easiest fix first. Look on the back side of the switch lever and make sure the cable is still attached and moving back and forth properly.
If it is, you'll have to do some bilge diving like Mike says. There is a valve the cable connects too. Either the cable broke, the valve is stuck in the open position, or the cable has come loose.
Easy fix without bilge diving = get a plug the fits the drain hole inside the livewell.
My valve has not totally shut off since the boat was new. It has a slow drip and would probably take 8 hours for the livewell to totally drain. It is a PITA to plug and unplug, but I plug it when trailering to a weigh in.
