I got a tip from another old timer and so I tried it and it worked. His tip was to put one part ammonia with four parts water in a spray bottle and use it to clean your carpet or remove stains from carpeting. My Bass Tracker has grey carpeting and after 12 years naturally I have some dark spots. I sprayed the spots with said mixture, used a brass brush to rub it in, waited several minutes, and wiped it dry with a cloth towel. It worked!

Great tip. Should be mild enough not to hurt the glue underneath either.  ~c~ ~c~ That's the big problem with some of the market cleaners, they work great but they also loosen the glue

Gonna have to try this when I get my boat out of the shop as I have some spots that need to get gone.  Do yall think a handheld carpet cleaner would cause the glue to let loose?

I just checked my boat carpet which I cleaned with the ammonia/water and it didn't loosen the glue.
