Raker twins...

I have a pair of seemingly identical raker 26" props for my 225 Evinrude. I recently damaged one of them and then installed the other while the first is being repaired. Problem is, the second prop blows out on the hole shot. I can't get it on plane without babying the acceleration and then it may still slip if I wot in a hurry. What on earth is wrong, in your opinion? I just had the lower seals replaced, as a result of the same incident. Don't suppose that might have anything to do with it??

I can't remember? But are there vent holes on the raker?

Sounds like there may be a difference in the amount of exhaust that is moving over the prop.

There are vent holes...they look to be the same size. I just can't figure out how why the one has always worked flawlessly and now it's twin is not working worth a dam...would I need to plug the holes? If so, how?

Not sure on props anymore but is it all stainless or does it have a hub in it?

Have you run the second prop before or is this the first time? Someone may have had it re-pitched to a shorter pitch.

Yes it is all stainless steel and does have a hub...not sure if it's blowing out or spinning t he hub, i bought it new and know it hasn't been re pitched. How would I be able to tell if it's spinning the hub?

New? I suppose it's possible it wasn't pressed in properly. Pull it, Use a magic marker or a file and make a mark across the back of the prop and hub. Mount it back up and take it for a spin (no pun intended). When you pull it off, the mark should still be lined up all the way across the hub.

Another thought.. Is there any chance you put another washer behind the prop? If there's a gap between the prop and LU housing that will allow exhaust to escape and cause too much slip. -J

Over the past couple years I've spent some time talking with some very knowledgeable prop guys and I've had two of them tell me that many new props are neither pitched or balanced properly. If it's not the hub, you may want to have the pitch checked. It may be stamped 26P, doesn't mean it is.

Ok, I did the slip test and it seems that it is spinning. What now? Can this be fixed?

If that's a pressed in hub, a prop shop can install a new hub. If it's a universal, you can buy and install a new hub. If that's an original Raker, it's pressed in. I'd have the shop balance it too.

It's pressed in, I'll take it to my prop guy for new hub and balance. Thanks guys for all your expert advice...
