Today, I have been re-spooling a couple of reels and then decided to use my new bottle of Braid Aid to clean and treat a few other reels as suggested by their advertising.  I am amazed just how dirty the previously used braid gets.  Just looking at the application cloth reveals a significant amount of dirt and grime.  This braid is not all that old but it sure was dirty compared to the new braid I just spooled.  Although I must say the new braid had a little bit of grime as well but not all that much.  I guess this was a good exercise to experience.

So what youre saying is instead of doing the chores your wife was asking of you, you cleaned braid that is just gonna get dirty again as soon as you use it?  ~roflmao
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

Silly Boy, You must know how this works.  After I did the chore she wanted done, then and only then could I clean the braid.

Smallie_Stalker

Bud, I had seen the Braid Aid a few years back but have never used it.  I will be interested to hear your thought on whether you find it helps extend the life of your braid or not.

Matt, You will find out soon enough.  Enjoy your Youth because it does have a shelf life.  In the world of Senior Citizens being bored is a badge of honor.  Once we get our braid nice and clean, I am gonna take a ride in my truck and leave the left turn signal on during the entire ride.. Then I will stop 6 car lengths away from the car in front of me at the traffic light.  I might even drive just below the speed limit if the person behind me is in a hurry.   lo lo

Now that's living!!! Don't forget, when you get in a residential neighborhood to go rel slow and look like you're looking for an address or stop in the middle of an intersection or blocking an aisle in a store so nobody can get by. Haven't had this much fun since I was a kid tossing bags of dog poop off the W.T. Grant building in Auburn! ::) ~shade ;) Oh the joys of life! ;D ;D ;D

I've always been a big fan of braid ... and use Reel Magic on all my line. No issues, so I like to stick with what works.

Another source of pure entertainment is at the store especially when there are long check out lines.  Whip out a debit card and then struggle with how to use the system.  Even more fun now that the chip style cards are active.  Be sure to put in the wrong pin number a couple of times or put the card in backwards.  That is always good for some moans and groans for the folks behind you.  Really fun if you are in an express line with the maximum number or even one over the limit and all the folks behind you have just 1 item.

But one of my favorites is when the nice lady smiles and talks the whole time they ring up her over filled cart, then when told the total, then starts the process of getting out the check book and writing the check.

Doc, you may recall that I have been having some problems with line digging into the spool and some problems with backlashes.  While a few of those problems were self inflicted due to my less than professional skills, I was still looking for input.  RB-NC posted about this product and I know he very proficient with just about any fishing product and I trust his input.  RB suggested this is good stuff so I decided to give it a try.  The following link is a you tube video from Wilson Frazier about the product.  It is an advertising piece so I won't make it live but this is one of the reasons I am cleaning my braid line both new and old.

I have been using reel magic for years but that is because I have a 55 gallon drum of it.   ~roflmao  Not long after I moved to Baytown I noticed that my braids were getting very stiff and had white flakes on it, so I tried cleaning it with a reel magic soaked rag, and was surprised like you, Bud, over the dirt that was on the rag.

I have noticed that with periodical cleaning, usually every time I do the "Tree Trick", my line is much nicer and is lasting longer.  It is getting that salt that collects in the weave and abrades the line from the inside out washed out.

Bud I recently went to the Walmart to do some groceries and an elderly lady was in front of me with a full cart. She then started picking out the essential items and having the cashier scan em. She got to about half the cart when I guess she hit her money limit. Realized she had something more important in her cart that was priority and started rummaging through the bags till she found something of less importance. She then did this another 2 or 3 times. About an hour later (or so it seemed) she finally had swapped out her groceries and had the right stuff in the bags. Told the cashier she didn't need the rest of the stuff and finally pulled out the check book. About an hour after that I finally got to pay for my items. LOL.
Now I could have moved to another line except its Walmart, and they generally only open just a few lanes depending on the time of day. Since this one was so backed up, the other open lane was about a mile long, only other lane open was the 10 item lane and I was well over that.   ~rant

It's nice to hear y'all do it for kicks though lol.  ~roflmao

As far as the braid cleaner, I go through line pretty fast, tying and retying lures and I just can't be bothered with all that cleaning lol.

It's a lot more fun when yesterday's baked beans, Hormel Chili and ~beer~ kick in while you're doing it.  :shocking: :shocking: ~roflmao >:D
The tree trick is catching a tree, preferably very high up with a 20 dollar bait and pulling the line tight, it forces the line taught squeezing the dirt out and giving you your exercise when you're ducking the big limb you just broke off.
