Went to buddies house and saw this sitting in in his neighbors trash
A 5 ft steel rod with this baitcaster on it. The line is almost thread. The only name I saw was on the back of the reel seat  " speed lock". So as we all sit and look/want the best of the best that today has to offer. Look where it all came from. I love this rig and I'll try to use it ( for about a minute)

Full cork handle and balance  well not there. I can see some topwater action on it

My first rod that my dad handed down to me  was very similar to this one, except mine has celluloid (I think) knobs on the handle. I still have it.

I believe that line is probably dacron. It was very common before nylon mono became all the rage.

Enjoy the rod even if it is just to look at. I like to look at mine to compare and see just how far we have come.  :)  ~sun

I added the lure and it went in the rod rack. I love it. Fishing history. Hands down one of my favorite set ups besides my dobyns and LSCR

That is a cool find. Need to try it. I use my fathers old rods from time to time to remind myself how good I have it now.

A steel rod is a new one on me. I assume that one has not parabolic bend ha ha

Nice find! I have this setup I inherited from my grandpa (no longer living).

He grew up in upstate New York and enjoyed fishing. Not sure if this is some trolling setup maybe. The rod is barely 5' long and thick around as a man's finger.

Smallie_Stalker

Yep, I have one similar to that one too, at least the rod. The reel is somewhat different but it's probably from around the same time frame. I agree it probably was some sort of trolling rod. I can't imagine trying to cast and fish all day with the weight of that thing.  :surrender:

One of my first rods was steel.  I remember closing the car door on the tip, and it bent it.  I was afraid to try to straighten it so just used it like that!
