Took advantage of having all my chores/hunnydo's done over the weekend and tied up some swims.

Did 3/8 and 1/2 oz in that white color I've been using and some 3/8 oz in my favorite blue gill color.

I was going to do more but I watched a YouTube video on a guy using a 5 dollar tool from Fishing Skirts that might make my job easier. I'll pick this back up this weekend.

Thanks guys. Joe hinted around that I should tone down the black metalic some. I used 1/2 tab instead of a full and added a half tab of the blue. I think it made them look much better too. Still @65 strands too.

Wow! They all look great!  ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

I need to get some different skirt material. What type are you using? I really like the blue shimmer, is that what you're using?

I've got some barbed wire & other patterns, but need to add something different to my skirt supplies.  ~shade

Love the colors.  When you say "tied" what are you tying them with?  Ive started using copper craft wire on my some of my older spinnerbaits to keep the shirt from falling off due to the collar degrading.

Thanks

1/2 Tab of Black Silver Scale #194
1 1/2 Tabs of Glimmer Blue Satin Shad #377
1 Tab of Glimmer Green Satin Shad #403
All in that order. Keep the dark on the bottom of the jig when tying.

You could use all Blue if you wanted. I just like how the light hits the green and blue and makes it look like some of the little bait fish around here.

I buy all stuff from Fishing Skits dot com or Living Rubber dot com. I use only Silicone on my swims and a mix of Silicone and Rubber on my bottom jigs.

I ran out of my green wire and haven't been able to find any lately so I've been using some thin silver wire. I wrap 3 times and tighten, twist and crimp. I only use the collars to hold the skirts together when I position them in the pattern I want. Wire tie then clip the collar.

Wire tying makes them last much longer and it makes the skirt "puff" out more around the neck of the jig. I despise rubber collars.

Thanks!  ~c~

I tie mine with a flat nylon fly tying thread. It won't corrode like wire will.  ::)

Very true. I usually end up losing the Jig before that happens, but I do have some hair jigs that are thread tied and I love them.

Those colors are spot on for swimjigs. You are set for every situation. How do you keep the colors in the right place and not have a mess?  Nice job.

I layer the skirts to how I want them to set on the jig.  I tighten them enough that nothing slips or twists, but doesn't cut the skirt material. Benefit to wire tying.

Yep. It's a PITA too! lo

With this new tool, it may be easier for me. The plastic collars help a lot keeping everything together when I'm tying. I can get 3 wraps sorta loose, position the skirts then pull without everything messing up. It's kinda one of those cross your toes stick out your tongue deals lo

I suppose I could ask Mike to send them loose and just glue them down? Might be less of a PITA. Hows the weedguard held in? Hot Glue Gun or some type of Epoxy?

Dittos, touch with a drop of fly tying cement or hard as nails and you're done.
Rock, put the weed guards in after you tie, pick up the teflon base pins from Jann's, they pull out easily and they're ready for reuse, they're cheap and make life easy.
Nice looking jigs there! ~c~ ~c~

Looks great! I know you use Siebert jigs; what prompted you to tie your own? I know Siebert offers a ton of color options, were none of them quite to your liking?

I used to buy from Chris at North Star Custom Baits. When Chris sold the business, the new guy wasn't going to keep some of my colors in stock anymore. I hadn't ever used Mike before so I started tying my own. After a few I started noticing I was kinda good at it and just kept doing it. Mike had the best price on jig heads I could find without doing it on my own and all the hassles that come with it.

Mike makes some killer jigs, but tying my own and catching a bass on one is too cool.
