Fished the SV for the first time today. Once I dialed in the reel, all I can say was wow!! Since this is my primary froggin reel, I experimented with regular 65lb PowerPro. I spooled it without backing, and to my surprise I had to control my casts because I was spooling the reel!! Crazy part was that the reel still had more to give if I had more line. Unfortunately, I didn't land any fish today on this outfit, but as soon as I got home, I stripped the line. Fortunately, my SS Rockchalk gifted me a spool of 65lb maxcuatro. This line is 12lb diameter instead of the regular 65lb power pro braid which is 15lb diameter. I think by making this switch, I can once again launch my frog without any worries... lol!!

I was just about to suggest it but forgot you had some lo

That was the only line that gave me #65 strength but allowed me to fill my Exsence DC up and not hit the spool. I can't prove it, but I swear the thinner diameter line gave me more distance

Lou I am glad you got a chance to try the reel. It sounds like it's amazing for the frog.

Since you mentioned the MaxQuatro in 65, I am curious if that would work better in my Lews. The lews does a good job of launching the frog with 50lb PP but when the spool isn't completely full, I lose a good amount of distance. This tends to cause me to want to respool sooner than I feel like I should.

Regular PP 50lb is .014" which is the same as MaxQuatro 65lb
Rockchalk what are your thoughts on 50lb MaxQuatro .012" for frog?

I haven't gotten to frog fish it yet. Just the front yard and neighbors tree. I've been running it on jig rod and love it for that though.

I should be good to go now. If I spool this, I don't know what to tell you.  lo My concern with the Cuatro braid is although its 12lb diameter which is equivalent to regular 50lb PP, the Cuatro is thin!! The guys will tell you, I throw in thick stuff, and my fingers are crossed the Cuatro is up for the challenge.

Oh I also failed to mention, that one of my internal upgrades were spool bearing upgrades, so when I say I launched it, I LAUNCHED IT!!  :)

Lou how did the reel balance on that super light rod?
How did it feel in your hand with it being 7.8 oz for the frog?

The LSCR PB perfectly balanced with this reel. I couldn't believe this reel was 7.8 oz. I was disappointed I did get to stick a fish with it today because I could feel how this reel is going to be a real brute when the time comes.

Cool! Good to know. I may have to hold it next time we fish. I'd love to see how it feels for me. You know my frog outfit has to be light. The reel weight is what worries me for the frog.

As you know, I didn't put in a full day today, and on top of that although I did frog for a bit, I wasn't able to put the outfit on a full frogging marathon. But.. with the time I did spend with it, I should't have a problem fishing all day with this reel when the time comes.

You should be able to skip frogs under everything with that setup. Have fun and give reports on how it handles hogs.

My fishing areas do not provide me with many or any skipping situations. That's one technique I really need to work on, but when I'm only faced with a skipping situation only once or twice a year, it makes for a challenging situation. Guys make skipping look so easy and effortless.

Join the crowd Brother. I'm one of those guys that can do almost anything pretty good. Skipping is one of those things that that makes me want to chew on broken glass lo

And chop sticks. Crikey those things evade me  ~rant

Lou-that is a great looking reel ~c~   nice job LMG

Capt. BassinLou

I posted somewhere last week  lo, that I spooled up my SV with regular 65lb PP and was spooling the reel on my long casts. Happy to report, since then, I spooled the reel with 65lb MaxCuatro PP (gifted to me by Rockchalk for the SS gift exchange) and the problem was solved. Since this line is 12lb I was able to obviously spool more line and take care of the spooling issue on the long casts. Unfortunately however, I haven't been able to catch any fish on this outfit YET to test how the reel and new line handle fighting fish out of the cover.

Capt. BassinLou

Sooooo... the opportunity presented itself with LMG'S help to significantly upgrade my SV 103. To say I can't wait to fish it with these changes is understatement!! Stay tuned for pics tomorrow... :)

ok...seriously? you guys are going to get me all hot and bothered to retire my old diawas for new ones?

that just ain't right.
