This is a little of the norm but today was opening day of trout here in Rhode Island.  THat's not as special as who I got to fish with my Uncle and mentor.  We went to a fly fishing only pond that he taught me how to fly fish at and that we went to for many opening days together. We probably hadn't gone together for the last 6 years do do either work or he had some health issues.  We had made plans a few weeks ago to go.  I woke up and with the weather it was cold and drizzly and hope he would be there.  Well When I got there this morning and saw him in the parking lot nothing could remove the smile I had.  It that point I could have cared less even if I caught a fish.  We were going to share time again.  This is a man that not only taught me how to fish but was my mentor and kept me in the right direction when I was younger.  My parents divorced when I was in my early teens and neither wanted me.  I went to live with my grand parents and he was more or less the one that looked out for me.  Well getting back we walked got our old spots that we always had.  Fishing was a little slow but we did catch a few and talked about the past.  He is a lot better fly fisher man than I and I think he took it easy on me.  Well on one of my last casts before we left  I managed to hook the biggest fish caught while we were there a 4.1 lb rainbow trout.  People stopped to watch and it was funny he started to coachwe just like when I was young.  It took me a while to land the fish and when I finally did I don't know who was more prouder me or him.   After I let it go he looked with a big smile and put his hand on my shoulder and said "It has taken you long enough to beat me on opening day."  It was already a great day being with him and this just added to my memories of the time I have spent with him.
