Now that I have your attention. When fishing ponds and I know I am in the right area and they are not biting it is time to wake them up. I start fan casting a rattle trap till I have covered the whole area. I may not catch any on it but then I throw weightless worms and 1/8oz jigs and usually catch a few for a a few minutes. Then repeat process.

Interesting idea! I would of never thought of that.

Just throw rocks! Or you can come down to one of the park lakes around here. Plenty of kids will come right next to you to throw rocks in the water while you fish lol.

that is a very true assessment.  how many time while fishing from a boat has anyone pulled up to a spot or area and first or second cast catch one and then nothing.  i have witnessed this from many years of fishing, but also realize when it is going on, and will start up the big motor, put it in and out of gear a couple of times, and pull the trolling up and down and catch another bass on the next cast or two.

i am of the opinion that the commotion woke them up enough that you get one and then they are back to sleep.

here another great example.  we were fishing a buddy tourney in the fall.  i started out fishing a spoon on the bottom, and my buddy started out with a c-rigged french fry.  he was catching all the bass.  so, i picked up my rig and neither of us got a bite.  so, i again started fishing the spoon and instantly my buddy caught another bass.  i instantly put two and two together and kept bouncing the spoon across the bottom realizing it was waking the bass up and then the french fry would get bit when it came by.  we won the tourney and my buddy caught every bass, but it took the two of us working together to make something happen on a tough bite.

pay attention to the details.  great job zippy!

That's a good story. bo. I don't know if I should call you bo Van Damme or Kevin Van James. I've struggled for a year trying to remember if I've met any pros with as much knowledge as you have amassed. I can't come up with one and certainly no one I've fished with or against at Table Rock. I've got a great amount of fishing knowledge but you sometimes mention tactics I've never heard of. I think you must have been living nothing but fishing your entire life.  ~c~

Merc I have noticed same from time to time.

A wake boat will go by and shake the cover I am fishing. I assume that wave knocks bugs and critters free and pan fish and or bass get excited. I have had it happen quite a few times.

West I've noticed that as well. Both in freshwater and saltwater. It is possible tht the movement of your bait due to the waves triggers a reaction from the bass.

I normally see a wave go by then bait fish moving around in an area trying to get over. Pitch there and pow bass. Normally they are smaller bass though.

But you could be right.

Its basically the "wind blown bank" theory. You ever notice that if there is a good chop on the water and it blows a good chop into the bank, that bass and other fish tend to get on those bait fish that get caught up in it?
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

zippy, great idea.
I almost always have a rod with a lipless tied on when bank fishing.
And I will always after tossing the crank follow with a 'slow' presentation with a plastic fluke, stickbait, etc.

I fish a shallow...er river and everyone 'bitches' about the boaters/jet skiers buzzing up and down the river.

I on the other hand will actually wait till a skier goes by and cast parallel to the bank.
Often times almost every time 'right when the wake' is hitting the rocks on shore I'll catch a bass...especially a SM.
Then nothing till another boat goes by.

As Bo mentioned....it's about paying attention to details and your surroundings...and adapting.

Good tip zippy!  ~c~

Thanks Bo and anal,
It is just a little thing I figured out as a teenager without a boat. I would throw a spinnerbait or rattetrap always first then use a t-rigged worm. As I figured it out I found that a weightless t-rig worked better. And now Senkos are my number one in those conditions.
Wake fishing is almost a sure thing and is best for me with a small swimbait.

Good tip zippy I'm going to have to make sure I get it in the contest. ;D
Good story Bo and I have noticed sort of the same thing when catfishing on the river and a barge goes by and the fish would go crazy till the waves stopped.

you've peaked my interest here.  Thinking back when I'm the most successful is when I throw a moving bait and follow it with something on the bottom.. this is a heck of a thought bud!
