Grab Poles

As an old (I have the body of a 104 yr. old) angler, I feel I need something to hold onto as I board and leave my bass boat. I need a second pole on the front deck to stabilize myself while getting onto the front deck and seat. Anyone on UB that uses an assist or grab pole oon their fiberglass bass boat? I don't want permanent poles but something removable when not in use.

I have steps for my trailer and love them but could use something in the boat as well. One of the anglers in a circuit I fished had a pool mounted to his driver console. He uses it to get in and out of the drivers seat and to step up on the deck. It's very low profile and doesn't get in the way. I'm going to take a couple photos next time I see him and see if it's something I can have built.

I should have said I keep my Puma under a covered dock with air hoist year around. The boat is on the hoist in a 17 X 34 ft, slip. I have to step about 2.5 ft. from the dock to the boat. No problem before injuries but a problem now. I want the pole to mount to either the gunnel or deck and be removable. I just saw something on the net from a company named Nautical Cross. It uses an in deck fishing pole holder and a 4 ft. stainless pole. You have to mount it. If that doesn't work, I'll find a 39 yr.  old beauty to hold my hand as I get on the boat, smile at me and KEEP QUIET while I'm fishing. Probably easier to find a grab pole.

Thinking outside the box.........check into removable bathtub grab bars.
Should be able to find one with a wide enough attachment bracket to attach to side of boat.

Just a thought.
They also have suction cup attachable too....but not sure how good but very inexpensive to give it a try?

A good idea, anal. The problem is I need a vertical grab pole about 4 ft. in length. I could put one in the pedestal hole but the reach would be too far. I have some time to research.

what about something more on the order of a boarding ramp??  something that reaches from dock to boat deck???

Wizard, have you thought about another surface mount seat base?
I don't know what type of pedestal you have.  If it's the pin type that might be hard to find as those usually need about three inches of space below the mounting surface.

a light weight aluminum boarding ramp with a steady pole welding to it would the the simplest way to go.  slide to from dock to boat deck.  walk onto to boat.  slide ramp back onto dock and away you go.  reverse procedure when you get back in.

Wizard, Bo's idea about a small ramp might work in the boat also, weld a pole to it at the height you need and a piece coming off it going toward the bow to be able to get to the seat. Have a rubber mat glued to the base so it doesn't slide when you are underway.
