If you own a iPad/Android tablet (this will also work for an iPhone/Andriod phone) and a Lowrance HDS Gen 3/Gen 2 (Along with the wifi network module) and don't want to shell out thousands of dollars for a bigger Lowrance unit then this tip is for you!

Go to the app store on your iPad/Tablet device and search/download the "GoFree Link" app.

Apple Link - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gofree-link/id565848636?mt=8
Android Link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.navico.gofree&hl=en

Now all you have to do is connect the iPad/Tablet device to your Lowrance HDS Gen 3 unit.

1. Go into "Settings" on your Lowrance HDS unit.
2. Select "Wireless".
3. Tap on "Wireless Devices".
3. Then tap on the "Internal Wireless" part.
4. You will now see the "Network Key" needed to connect your iPad/Tablet device to the wireless network. (Side Note - You can change this password at your leisure. Just tap on the "Network Key" and enter a new passcode.)
5. Go into your iPad/Tablet device's wifi settings and search for the HDS wifi network and connect to it.
6. The "Network Key" from earlier will be your password to connect to the Lowrance Unit.
7. After connecting your iPad/Tablet device to the Lowrance unit via the wifi network, you can now open the GoFree Link app on your iPad/Tablet and connect to the Lowrance HDS unit.
8. PROFIT!!! Enjoy your 2nd SCREEN! ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

+++A couple of caveats ... The obvious one is you must ALREADY own a iPad/Tablet for this to be "Free". Secondly, you can view and CONTROL your Lowrance unit using a iPad/Tablet however you can only view what's on the unit with your iPhone/Android phone.+++

If you couldn't find a Lowrance HDS wifi network then you probably need to change your Lowrance HDS unit's "Internal Wireless" setting from "Client Mode" (Which is a way to connect to your personal phone hotspot to access updates/GoFree store using your device's wifi hotspot) to "Access Point Mode". Steps are below.

How to change your Lowrance HDS Gen 3 unit's "Internal Wirelss" setting.
1. Go into "Settings" on your Lowrance HDS unit.
2. Select "Wireless".
3. Tap on "Wireless Devices".
4. Then tap on the "Internal Wireless Devices".
5. Then select the "Mode" option.
6. On the drop down menu that appears select "Internal Access Point".
7. Tap "Yes" on the save menu that appears.
8. Repeat the above steps to connect your iPad/Tablet to your Lowrance HDS Gen 3 Unit.

Hope ya'll enjoy your 2nd BIG SCREEN!!! :-* :-* :-*

I know most guys probably know about this one but figured I'd post it for those that didn't.

Can you see different pages this way? For example Lowrance unit on sonar page and Ipad on chart. Can each be controlled separately?  Thanks    Don

I'm pretty sure the iPad sees exactly what the unit sees and vice versa. The iPad becomes a wireless controller for the unit, so whatever you do on one the other shows the same.

Exactly what CCR425 said, It's a mirror image of what's on the Lowrance Unit already however if you're running a 7" HDS unit it's a whole lot easier to see on a 9.7" iPad or even better if you have one of the 12.9" iPad Pros.

I use the iPad Pro 9.7" and the set-up works great.
