I spent some time tonight assembling some jig skirts & jigs. Didn't really have anything specific in mind, but some of them came out pretty good, while others leave a bit to be desired.  ~shade

All the heads are some I had poured & painted.  :)

I love the first two some of the others are awful bright but I'm sure there are times when bass will eat all of them.

Hi Jim, There are plenty in those pictures that I would fish right away.  Some others would probably work sometime.  As some fisherman say, Most lures will catch fish sometime.

They all look good to me. Best way to find out which are best for your area is to try them.

whether they work or not is irrelevant.  some really interesting and cool colors you put together.  think they all look great.

rockchalk06

I really like that last one. I tie a brown/orange one very similar. Really hot days in deep water, it's deadly.

I like the Xcite Baits "dirt" craw, Berkley Powerbait craw in "Bream" and the Strike King Rage Craw in "Falcon Lake" colors to match.

Have you ever tried throwing in a tab or half tab of living rubber in with them?

flowerjohn

I gotta say Jim, it is such a treat to see when you post your photos. Those combos are brilliant and I know that those bright patterns would work big time in the waters I fish. Thanks for that post. John.

Thanks all! Most of the time I prefer a "natural" color jig, but have caught enough fish on bright colors to want to have a few for when the fish prefer them. Just like back in the Boy Scouts, "Be Prepared"  lo

Rock, I have added Living Rubber to skirts in the past, and made them with all Living Rubber. I like the stuff as it's more buoyant than silicone & has more movement to it. I still have some of the "older" LR, the round stuff in different colors. I used it a lot on my flies too!   ;D

Only thing I don't like about it is it deteriorates over time.  :'(

Again, Looks good man!

Love them all  ~c~ ~c~

Where did you get the material for the third one? I really like that and I'll be it's awesome in the cooler water around here. I need to get some of that quick.

Mike, I wish I could answer your question! I've had some of the skirts & skirt materials for years, and obtained from various sources, so no way I can remember where I've gotten all of it. Sorry!  :(

If I do find that skirt material again somewhere, be glad to let you know!  :-*

I'll also check & see how much of that color I have, would be willing to send you some too!  :)

Fishingskirts.com has most everything known, Jann's actually has a pretty good assortment also.

Mike, last night I went thru my stash of skirts & skirt pads. Those must have been ready made skirts, as all I could find was 4 more of them. I'll keep looking for that color. I want to get some more with some blue in it too.

Rodney, thanks! I've bought skirts & pads from them & other places in the past.  :)

I don't care how purdy they look if they don't catch fish then they are not going to be tied again.

How long do you think is a reasonable time to try them?

First, I like experimenting, and with jigs, most of that will be with color combinations, so, I end up with jigs like you see here.  :-*

Second, I have no doubt that all of them will catch fish!  ~gf

Whether or not I reproduce any of the combinations will sometimes depend on the colors. Like the skirt color Mike has asked about, which I seem to have a very limited quantity.  If that color turns out to be a very good one, once that's gone, I'll either have to find something similar or just give up on it. I'm not worried about it either way!  lo

Whatever it takes you to try it under a bunch of circumstances.

Jim, save at least one and copy it with tabs or pieces of tabs that you have or can order. Fishing skirts has a forum where some custom tiers have posted some of their most popular colors and what it takes to make them, this way others can use them.
