Had a Ballistic back in the day and honestly hated it. Decided to give the platform another shot with the top end model. Got a killer deal on a NIB reel. Also, spooled it with fluorocarbon, like im trying to make myself sick. I think I might just be getting bored with what I know I like. Lol

How about some pics without cool effects? lol

I can't believe you went and got another reel...wait I can. Oh and you are sick, probably the sickest person I know when it comes to reels. What kind of Fluoro did you put on that?

Is it a 1016? Saw your thread over on TT. Interesting. I've been feeling the pull of the T3 myself, even though like you my first experience wasn't that great. Something about the looks and that crazy design...

That's where I go to talk about gear. Everything else, here. :)

Mike Cork

I like talking gear  :-* but I'm boring as I'm very partial. I do wish you guys would start more topics on various reels in the reel board. I'm interested in swapping out Shimano. Used them for 30 years and don't even know what a daiwa feels like anymore. Lews have been decent... anyway I'm hijacking... back to regular schedules programming.

Used to have 3 of these. Finally down to 1. Had the hood snap twice, drive shaft stripped, 2 sets of gears go bad, and 2 stock bearings explode. Mag 3d is awesome and so is the 1016 spool. Reel design is terrible. Hope you didnt pay more than 130 for it.

Go get yourself a SV103 and hold on for the ride. Anytime you wanna talk reels, you know where to find me.

Let me give yall a little info so far. My start to this reel isnt good. Its like I got bad mojo from it.  lo I spooled the reel last night with 15# fluoro. As much as I hate fluoro, and didnt care for the Ballistic, I just had to try and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I took the reel out this morning before work and tossed a jig around. Reel was very smooth, way better than the Ballistic was. Caught one bass about 2lbs, and it was just a great feeling. Keep on walking down the bank, then I notice the palm plate started to come off. When I looked down, the button to release the plate was gone. The button, a spring, and e-clip and washer all gone. WTF? They were all there last night and this morning. So a quick call to my boys in Bama, and $6 later the parts are ordered from Daiwa. Fast forward...I go to put the side plate back on the reel at my shop, and the  ^-^ spool falls out of the reel on the floor. Sure, why not, what else could happen? So there is now a slight little bend in the spool lip, which doesnt affect anything with the function at all.

So what does this all mean? To tell you the truth, I kinda like the reel. The looks and all, I really dont want to change anything with the cosmetics of it. (yeah I know, you dont really believe me) lo . So Im gonna take this all with a grain of salt and think of my future plans for this reel. One thing I dont have with my arsenal is something with light line, and I aint talking less than 30# braid either. I figured with the Magforce 3D braking system, there should be a good opportunity here. The 1016 spool is an amazing reel, but what could make this setup better? How bout a shallow SV spool? And I mean shallow. So thats where Im gonna be going with this reel in the future. Considering the price I paid for this reel NIB, and the price of the SV spool for it, Im still way ahead of the game if I decide to unload it. To give you an idea, Tacklewarehouse has the MX model on sale, and my total including the SV spool will still be cheaper than that reel.  ~roflmao

Well, you're taking it better than I would have. My texts to you would have been filled with more F-Bombs, and threats of violence toward the reel  ~b~

Good update. I groaned when I saw you were running 15 lb. fluoro because I used 17 lb and feel like that was part of what drove me to dislike the reel. I think lighter braid would really work well with that one.
I agree that a well-rounded Daiwa enthusiast's arsenal does need a T3 variant. :)

Yeah, more or less was to see how the 3D brake system would control the Fluoro. It did it quite well, and was very impressed. As for the reel, it sits until after Christmas. Parts for the release button won't be here for a while. Wife said I can't order the spool till after Christmas. Decided I'm gonna do a SV1000 spool in it and run like a 10-12# fluoro. Oh the fun never stops.

T3's are definitely a fun little reel.   I think it was about 2012 when they first came out and getting solid information about the differences in the reels took a good amount of research.  A couple years after they were released there were so many models of the reel that it seemed to really make it more difficult to decide which model to go with.

I ultimately decided on the T3 MX, at the advice of someone who is somewhat of an expert on the subject.    The longer handle on the high speed version and adding a few bearings make it a very nice reel.

The 1016 has a lighter spool but it comes at a bit of a price when it comes to maintenance and some tuning options.    I also have the SV 105 and believe it superior to the 1016 for handling the lighter weights so that had input on my MX choice.

Wish Daiwa would play with adding the 3D braking system to some aluminum framed reels, would be fun to see what is possible with that system.

Overall, great reels for the price, and once you start playing with them, they are kind of hard to put down.

LgMouthGambler

I had the SV105, and yes it was amazing at lighter baits. I couldn't use it anymore because the way I hold my reels I kept turning the dang brake dial. It stuck out too much for me. 1016 is a killer spool, but I'm gonna end up with the SV1000 spool for the T3 and that should take care of the lighter baits. Plus, that's pretty much the only thing I am gonna do to it. It's super smooth and I like the looks right out the box. I'm not crazy about the looks of the MX. Not into all black looking reels.

Mike, I am not one of the most experienced guys on the forum when it comes to reels but I can tell you that I am loving my Tatula Tactical and my Tatula Type R. Just last night I was fishing in the dark with the Type R. Casting into the wind. Maybe 10mph. My brakes were set to 10 out of 20 and with a little thumbing I was having no issues casting a good distance.
I have big hands and these reels are pretty bulky. They fit well in my hand.
A bit on the heavy side though. That is the only downfall.

That is awesome information. I will be starting a challenge to get everyone to post about their equipment with actual in had reviews. Don't do it yet as I'll probably add a contest with it ;)

But a post just like this with a solid title will do wonders for UB and as you've probably seen I'm on that kick right now. Happens every hunting season as our over all numbers slip with the guys in the woods  ~xyz

Still good info though! There's lots of folks that want the higher end stuff, just like lots of folks that will look at the mid tier, or lower tier gear.

I mean look you got me into reels I never thought I'd get. If it wasn't for you I would probably still be using a (dare I say it) PQ! LOL
