Howdy, Need help on the proper way of coloring the pork skin correctly. I know I need to use Rite Dye to color, I just need some guidance on the step by step process of coloring the bait correctly. I have the pork skin with fat in a brine as I type here. I plan on taking the pork out and scrapping the dead tissue and fat and salting, back in to the brine. My GOAL is to cut and shape & softness  like the old BO HAWG pork chuck and floating texture like Super pork. I should have the pork white and ready by December for coloring. That is the help I need bad. My color I wish to learn brownish red craw , purple, green pumpkin, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Dink, Welcome to Ultimate Bass & the Tackle Box Forum!  ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

I've done a lot with dyeing fur, hair & feathers for fly or jig tying purposes, but have never tried anything like that with pork rind. I've used Rit Dye in the past, and now use acid dyes. Acid dyes would likely make the rind hard & brittle, which is what it does to hides when dyeing.

My guess is you'll want a liquid dye of some type.

I buy some dyes from Dharma Trading Company, and they have a lot of information about dyeing with various types of dyes. You might try contacting them, or even Uncle Josh Company and see if they'll provide you with the information you need.

Sounds like a cool project to try!  :-*

I've bought a bunch of jars of pork rind over the years, mostly strips used on bucktails for Striper fishing, but also still have several jars of chunks so the thought of trying that hasn't been something I've considered.  :-\

Sorry the only experience I have with pork is eating it.

It was time ago. But I recall reading similar subject, I don't recall correctly. The contributor to the same topic was a member on this forum I believe was Big Papa. I think he had some manufacturing experience on pork. Is he still an active member.
