We have a few snakes and you can never count out a cat but that would be extremely rare.
The most common thing I see when bank fishing is geese and they can get pretty aggressive. Especially when they have their young with them.

It's funny as hell to see a grown man have a goose coming at him and that same grown man screaming and running like a 6 year old with a goose right on his heels! I've seen guys drop hundreds of dollars worth of equipment and haul a$$!
Them are some mean suckers for sure and like you said real aggressive when they have their baby ones with them.

Geese, are vicious. I always give them a wide berth when I walk past them. Lol

Yes, I carry and I will share a story that might make you start.  I was shore fishing once and carrying, and had a rather aggressive dog come up to me as I was leaving, but still near the water.  I had my hands full with fishing gear and was backed up to the water on a ledge and thought I was going to have to pull my gun.  Turns out it belonged to a homeless guy camped nearby and thankfully he called the dog and it went to him.  So yeah, I carry everytime after that.  Here in TN we don't have to worry about gators (yet) but snakes are a real possibility, but you never think about possible wild dogs or desperate people that might see you as an easy prey!  So yeah, I carry a gun and knives just in case.
There is nothing like sharing any moment outdoors with someone special!

We have geese at a local park by my house. They are BIG, and aggressive, especially at night. Boy don't you wake them up or get anywhere near them. I've had them chase me off when I got a little too close for their comfort.

Dogs... thank goodness in all my years of bank fishing I haven't come across an aggressive one. But when I see a pack of them as I drive by,  I move to another location.

I carry a belt tied machete with a saw tooth back when I go to "woodsy" spots.

I was at one of our urban canals down here there was a couple dogs running around. Not really the kind I wanted to go pet. A Rottweiler and another breed. Saw them coming my way so I got in the car and waited for them to pass. Then went back to fishing.

Now had it been a little Yorkiepoo or something I don't think I would have cared. Lol

The southern midwest where I live is probably the safest place in the US to be out in the woods, lol. Maybe a mountain lion or two around, but those are so few and far between it's no concern.
We don't even have big cats, at least the DEC says we don't, just watch for bear and rattle snakes and wild 2 legged type. If I bank fish at all it's at some manmade ponds, the wildlife you see is a purdy mom with a kid or 2. lo

Just an FYI for all you bank fishermen raccoons seem to be attracted to the sound of the whooper plopper. Had a big raccoon follow me down the bank and then an entire family of 5 did the same for a few minutes lol

They were mesmerized by the plopper. When they started getting closer and closer I moved and sure enough they followed.
