Bank fishing: How light do you carry?

When bank fishing, how light are you guys carrying and still feel you are an effective angler?

I will use myself in this example. In my younger years I would carry multiple rods, and an old Flambeau multi tray fishing box. Really old school, I know.. lol
Over the years I have streamlined significantly and all I carry is my waist pack and one multipurpose combo specific to bank fishing.

What say you?

When bank fishing I carry a small BPS tackle bag and in it I have a few bags of Senkos and a bag of worm hooks. I have one small tackle box with some HB frogs..a few jigs and a couple of chatter baits. I also have my small camera and a tape measure and a hook remover. I also make sure to have a small can of bug spray in there. All together I would guess it to weigh less then 10 lb which isn't bad since my tackle bag has a strap on it for a easy carry.

1 or 2 outfits and a couple of Plano Mini Magnums, the 2 sided brown boxes that fit in your hand, wish I still had them.

My wife bought me this for my birthday a couple years back. I can fit 5-8 combos comfortably in this quiver.

I have 3 Plano small boxes on the left side pocket. One has 1-2 jigs of every flavor and size I use. One has 1-2 items of almost every bit of terminal tackle I use. The last has jerkbaits/topwater/lipless/ in it. I have a bag full of worms I use in this same pocket.

The two right side pockets have small bags of every soft plastic I use. 2-3 per bag.

I also have about 100 yards of 40# braid, pliers, cutters, lighter, extra 9mm 17 round mag, water purification tablets and a heat blanket.

30 pounds max maybe? Has everything I will need to fish a half day or so. Shoulder strap makes it pretty comfortable carrying. I have the rest of my gear packed in the truck should I need more.

Please don't make me list what's in the Ram I don't have enough space to type it

Since I exclusively fish from the bank (no boat and dont know anyone with a boat who Bass fishes) I carry every bait and lure I own in a pretty sweet backpack I snagged on sale from LA Police Gear - http://www.lapolicegear.com/lapg-operator-backpack.html.

I can fit 6 Plano boxes with all my lures in the main pouch, and it has handy smaller pouches for lead, multi tool, tape measure, and water of course.

I would wager it comes in around #25-30 but its nice to have anything I need right there at my disposal.

One rig can just about cut it for anything. For me, a 7ft MH F rod, with a reel that is a 6 or 7 speed ratio, and spool it with some 30-40lb braid. The rod, with that you can cast just about anything. The reel, its a good all around retrieve to work just about anything. The line, you can fish just about anything, and tie a leader if you need to. T rig plastics, you can use just about any soft plastic using a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG hook. Carry a small bag with a few different bags of soft plastics, some extra hooks, maybe some extra baits (hard baits, jigs, etc).

For those that like to toss those spinny things, you can use 15 or 20lb braid and everything else pretty much the same.

I went from a medium sized tackle bag to a small tackle bag to a waist tackle bag (Fanny pack style). It is so much easier to carry around the fanny pack. 3 to 4 bags of plastics. Small plano for terminal tackle. 1 foldable ruler. Pliers, Scissors. Sometimes mini rapala scale.

I have a hard time going anywhere without taking the entire tackle locker.

I don't generally fish too far off the beaten path so I'll leave my tacklebox in the truck and take only what I think I need. Most of the time I'm throwing soft plastics and jigs so I might take a couple extra baits/trailers and a pair of pliers down to the water. While I may have more than on rod with me, I rarely take more than one to the water out of fear of damage or loss due to my own ignorance.

See, this is what happens when you fish with Lews reels, you need tools so you can fix them while you are fishing.

Guys it would be a lot easier if you just used Senkos. Then all you have to do is take 2 or 3 colors and your good to go! lol

I do the same. I may bring several rods in the truck but only take 1 or 2 with me while on foot. As far as tackle, I will leave my tackle bag in the truck and just bring a few baits in my pocket along  with a scale and pliers. I pretty much concentrate on one technique based on season, conditions  and body of water.

See, this is what happens when you fish with Lews reels, you need tools so you can fix them while you are fishing.

I think the lightest I go sometimes is just one rod and reel, and my catch all bag from the tackle box. This bag is where all the used rubber lures go if they are still usable and not all torn up. So this bag has a little of everything in it. So there is more than enough in there for me to have a couple hours of fun while bank beating here in central Florida- and it fits in my pocket. And, usually I will also take along one pair of needle nose pliers just in case... and as always my trusty old pocket knife. It don't get much lighter than this.

Certain rural areas require a heavy or extra heavy rod with a workhorse reel to get bass out of pads, slop, and reeds. In fact, I used an extra heavy rod to drag a 5 pounder over some really tall grass today. I always carry a medium heavy rod with a workhorse reel regardless of area.

I've actually caught fish too big for the net, had to use a tail lasso.

What size plano boxes, 3600 or 3700? Can you fit a 3700 in there?
