When away in another city do not lock the keys in your truck, especially if your AAA has expired, it'll cost you a bunch. Don't ask me how I know. lo I will have a spare mounted later today.

I now have a spare key hidden away, and not inside the cab. lo Also my wife now has a key to my truck for her keyring. In all honesty we were at the hospital where my sister was and between being worried about her and doing something in the truck before getting out I forgot the key until the locked door closed. The only other time I did that I was home and just had to go inside to get my spare. I'm no different than anyone else, if anyone can learn from them I'm willing to share.

One of the things I LOVE about my Expedition is the ability to enter a code and unlock the door.  I keep an extra key inside the vehicle too.  I have been able to use this method even when the battery was completely discharged, for whatever reason.  Maybe it's designed that way.
In previous vehicles I put one of those magnetic boxes with a spare key in it and then taped it (for extra safety) to a part of the spring assembly.
Having driven for 58 years now, of course I've locked the key in the car before, but NEVER AGAIN!
It's good to share experiences that might save someone else from similar problems.

Rodney,
Tks for sharing this with us.  I've locked my keys in my 02 GMC a time or two.  I now have several spares at various locations.  We have On-Star with my wife's Silverado and Cruze.  While at Toledo Bend fishing a UBCS event a few years ago I locked the Silverado up with the keys in the console.  My wife's keys were in her purse in the front seat. I'm glad my cell phone was in the boat.  We called On-Star and they unlocked the vehicle for us.

Got OnStar???  If you lock your keys in the car they can open it remotely using a pre-established PIN.

I always travel w/ my spare set.  Keep it in my backpack.  'Course it's no good if your backpack is locked in the truck along w/ your primary set of keys.  Just sayin' . . .

My tow rig has powerless door locks and powerless windows. To top that off I'm anal when it come to security. I often lock the door when I'm at the gas pump just out of habit. I keep a flat entry key in my wallet for those special occasions.

My Daughter threw away a whole key ring full of her keys a year or so ago, and the spare ignition key was no where to be found at my house.  Had to have her car towed to the Ford dealer because her Mustang has the key with the chip in it.  I cant remember exactly why they couldn't make us an ignition key without having the car in front of them, something about having the wrong numbers or something.  Anyways, my friend is the service manager at the dealership and even with him helping us out, it still cost over 300.00 for the key and tow.
