Anybody hear what won the Oilman's Tournament?

Casso

Preacher Ed

Casso-I believe it was 16+, 2nd was 15+, 3rd was 13 1/2, and a 4th-50th was 12+down to just over 8. There were two big bass over 6 and 3rd big bass was over 5. Sorry I can't remember specifiic-didn't matter to me cause I didn't get a check in it! Caught lots of fish-just not very big.

God bless and good fishing-Eddie

I took 24th place out of 174 teams with 10lbs....  the biggest bass was 6.11, second was 6.06, and third was 5.98.  Winning stringer was 16 + pounds. Ricky Madole and partner won it.  That storm that hit an hour before weigh in was a booger bear to fish in.

Mitch and I got to hit the river yesterday form 5:30 until dark. Ran south out of Clarks and hit some deep banks and the rock wall by the lock and dam. We through Crankbaits, spinnerbait, worms and bushhog with nothing. Water was in the mid 80's and slightly stained. May try and make it back later this week.

I've been hearing good reports coming from the Red. One of our club members made three trips last week and boated over 100 bass. If I can get some free time I will make a trip up there soon.

Fished RR this morning from about 6:30 to 1:00.  It was h-o-t  ~sweat when I left.  Caught eight; four keepers; no size; biggest maybe 1 3/4 lbs.  Primarily fished Whitehouse, tried frog early and caught only one with it.  Most of the fish came on junebug worm around grass.  Tried spinners, cranks, and plastics around several cuts on the river, but caught nothing.  Didn't find any concentrations of fish - just one here and there throughout the morning.  Key seemed to be junebug worm; grass; 8-10' of water.

fished the red today.  Basically everything south of clarks, caught 8, biggest was 2lbs, on a crank.  White cranks are catching lots of smaller bass.  Good luck all its HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~sun ~sweat

Fished this afternoon from 1700 til dark.  Caught a couple on a spinner, missed one and that was it.  I've got some more looking around to do.  Only been on the river three or four times now.  Water temp ranged from 88 to 91.  It was dang hot!

Hey we have a tourney on the red next week for the ducks unlimited state convention on Friday, the 21st.  Should be a good time.  It's open to the public also.  Oh yeah I haven't fished the red so if any of you have some info of what to catch em on i'd appreciate it.   :)

Hey Hillbilly...thanks for the info to the DU tourny...could you give a little more details on that..date, fee, location,  etc..

I do fish the Red but haven't been on it in a while...as to baits..the cranks that have worked for me are chrome/blue, natural crawfish, and blue streak rattletraps.....also 100 and 200 series orange craw and spring craw Bandits have done well..

Plastics...Black neon and blue bruiser Lake Fork craws...Culpritt red shad worms, and spiked watermellon Baby Brush Hogs.....and also watermellon/red Berkley worms..

If you have a map I like fishing the Caspiano and White House area...and some of the rock levies along the river..

A silver/white belly Pop-R has been my best topwater bite...

Hope that helps a little..

Hey man I appreciate that info...that should really help me out a bunch...Thanks!!
Now as for the DU tourney,  it will be held at the river stage there in Pineville/Alexandria next Friday, the 21st of July.  Each boat entry is 40$ per team and it will start @ 6am and weigh in will be at 11 am.  I know it's a short one but after the weigh in we will keep and clean all the fish we catch amongst us all and fry them up to start off the evening.  Then at 3pm there will be a cookoff contest between all of the parish committees from around the state to decide who's the best...and the best part of that is that we(the public) get to eat all that good food for free!  It's gonna be a great activity for all the family if you or anyone you know of would like to come out.  THEN at 9 pm is when my favorite starts....Karaoke for all the drunk people and it will end when we cant sing anymore.. lo
If anybody needs more info on the banquet or additional activities then it should be posted on the website www.ducksunlimited.org ( i think that's it)

Are you serious that you took fish from another boat to get a limit for a tourny? :-\ :shocking:

bassadict69

I think his buddies were in the tournament, he was just going fun fishing & his buddies gave him their fish after their weigh-in.

Mr. bigmouth

you hit the nail on the head bassadict...........in that tourney which was the albc top ten.....there were 5 boats with 2 team members in it from  each club
with all the members trying to get the biggest fish to weigh in at weigh time. They could only weigh in 5 fish from the ten people there fore the fish that were the smallest they gave to me after the weighin. No there wasnt no cheating and im proud to say my team got a close fourth...........that was fun to watch and next year im gonna be in it..

Well i fished the red sat and sun morning from 0600-about 1000. Had 7 bites and 5 would wiegh about 6 lbs. Tried all new spots mostly and the only thing I could get going was fishing worms in about 7 feet of water. Nothing shallow and no top water bites at all. Tried fishing the rock walls with crankbaits and only caught a Goo. Man it gets hot out there fast so be sure to take a lot of cold water with you and look out for logs. There was a big log floating with some weeds this morning that could have made for a bad day. The water was stained and 87-89.

where the logs on the main river near clarks? ~xyz :surrender:

mitchell

Yes it was just north of clarks right in the middle. There was also a few sticks about 4-5 feet long floating around. Didn't see any Sat. morning but Sun. it was pretty trashy. I guess all the boat traffic from the media tournament loosen them up.

RattlinScottie,

I have only fished the Red a few times and have done so around the Caspiano area, I am not familiar with the "White House", where is that located?

thanks for your help

They use to have a map in the Clarks marina that pointed out those points..

But go north on the main river...not really that far, maybe 1/2 mile or a little more..it's on past the caspiano area and will be on your right...

Just watch the levy on your right...and watch other boats as it is a popular area...anyway on up the river you will have a fairly long stretch of unbroken rock levy...on down you will see a break in the rocks and maybe 20 feet back that the section or rock levy ends....Go thru that cut and then run the inside of the levy back down a bit...

Folks fish that area and then go into the main oxbow area thru a stump field..there area a few sucker rod marking a trail but still lots of stumps..then onece thru that it open us like Caspiana..

Hope that helps a little...

Scottie

whatcam

If memory serves me I was supposed to follow you in there one day Scottie, back when we used to see each other fishing Caspy every weekend.  :roll2: Never happened though. I need to give cross a break and go back to the river. Is that media tourney yall talking about the big bass thing I heard about???
I caught you a delicious bass!
