BHenke

Launched at Clarks and only fished until 1000 because I have to work mids the next two nights and needed to get back and take a nap.  Just wanted to check some spots before the ABA and see what the water conditions were.  Main river and anywhere there are cuts flowing from the river were muddy.  Back water was still pretty clear.  Warmest water I found was 59 degrees.  Caught 4 keepers and one short one.  Three keepers and the short one hit a red rattle trap and the other keeper came on a Bandit 200 Hot Chocolate.  Second keeper I caught today managed to flip when I was trying to get him unhooked and imbedded a treble hook in my middle finger.  So here I am trying to get the rear treble out of him while the front one is deep in my finger. Finally got him unhooked and even managed to measure him with a rattle trap hanging from my finger.  Got the needle nose and gritted my teeth and popped the hook out of my finger.  It hurt pretty good for about 30 minutes but still caught two more keepers after that, sore finger and all.

Dang BHenke....sounds like one of my episodes... :)

Drove back from T. Bend with a Pop R hanging out of my arm one time.. ;D

Thanks for the report...water temp really dropped from a week or so back...just can't seem to get a stable pattern going at all...

Glad everything cam out allright though... ;D

Fished the Red this afternoon...Got on the water around noon and stayed till just after dark..

Didn't do alot of good...just 2 keepers and a little one...One on a shad colored lip crank and the other on a watermellon/red worm...

Red was muddied up pretty much with a pretty good current...but was only slightly stained back in the ozbows...

Water temp was 58 when I started and up to 64 in a few places later..

Tried to do a little night fishing but no luck there...probably still just a little cold for that...

Set out a few stump lines baited with large goldfish, so back early in the morning hoping for a big opp..

Back on the Red this morning...not much to report...4 fish with 2 keepers.....all on a crafish/orange 100 Bandit...

Some of the areas I fish were muddied up pretty much and current on some of the areas so did a little more looking around than usual..

One word of caution for those fishing the Red and the ABA tomorrow..

The river is really rolling now and has water level was up this morning maybe 6-8 inches...Lots of logs floating down the river and other places I went to today...

Also keep in mind boating safety...Two guys fishing the Media Bass Tourny were thrown from their boat when they caught a wake wrong...Both were OK and were wearing life vest and had their boat kill swith attached...

Be carefull,

Scottie

Had another ABA on the Red today....yep....fish were hare to come by..

Don't remember exact weights but winner had 12+ lbs... Big bass was 5+ and second big bass was 4+ lbs...

9 places were paid with smallest in the money at 8.15 lbs...

Many of my spots were muddied up pretty much and only managed 4 small keepers for a little over 4 lbs....caught fish on many baits with most comming on watermellon/red senko and others on bandits....

Next ABA will be on Caddo....really like the Red but difinitely need a change.. :)

Well I came close to getting some of my donations to the ABA back today.  Had three bites and only two of those were bass.  How come when I finally catch a couple kickers I can't manage three more twelve inchers to go with them.  My two fish I caught weighed 7.88lbs.  I think I finished 11th or 12th out of 55 or so, and like Scottie said they paid nine places.  My biggest one weighed 4.26 and I think it was the third or fourth biggest and of course they only pay two big bass pots. Water was 56 degrees where I started and almost 60 by the end of the day.  Both my fish came on a Bandit 200 in Citrus Shad.

The main river is a muddy mess right now along with the majority of places right off the main river. The only place to find any good water is the very back of certain oxbows. There is also floaters everywhere on the river and I managed to hit a couple yesterday but good thing they where only small ones.

Hi Railroader...just to add to BHenke's report...I fish Caspy alot and by Sunday the front side was muddied up pretty much but the back side was only stained up a little..

Water levels were really fluctuating a good deal also...don't think that helped me any at all...Saturday in Caspy the water was up maybe 6-8 inches and by Sunday was back down to normal levels..

Wish you could have got those others BHenke...I just can't seem to get that kicker when I need it...Caught probably 12 to 15 fish but only had 4 that would just barely make 12 inches.. >:(

One good note...I did win a $50 gift certificate to Travis marine...but...I had just bought a Kipawa prop for my T. Motor there last Thursday..$47.. ;D

Well..Next tourny is on Caddo so I'll be spending alot of time there the next month..

Well Scottie, I guess you could take it back and ask for a refund, then go back in the next day and say you changed your mind again then say, here I got this card I would like to use.
Or you could just find something else to blow it on.
BTW  are thos props really that good?
I caught you a delicious bass!

Hawgwild

Hey Whatcam....no prob with the gift cetificate.. :)

Still need lots of stuff...new male/female conectors for my T. motor....new pedestal for my front seat...they got a whole wall of baits...lots of plastics....and...and...and... ;D

As to the Kipawa prop...I believe I have gained a little torque on my motor and one thing I've noticed is it seems to be quieter...really can't explain that.....Haven't really run throught the weeds much yet but I did blow through some hydrilla I drifted into with no problems..

I'll give more updates on it after this Saturday...want to switch back and forth between the Kipawa and my regular prop to get a better idea of it....BTW..I have a fairly new 12 volt, 54 lb. thrust Motor Guide I'm puttilg this on..

I know this may not be the right forum but, I purchased a Kipama prop last year and have not noticed any real improvement in power and it does not do any better in the weeds or moss than my MG prop. I am not bad mouthing it, but now wish I had spent the close to $50.00 on something else. MHO

Fished the RR this morning from 6 to 12.  Caught 3 bass, 1 large goggle eye, and a very large bowfin - probably 5+ lbs.  I'm on a bowfin run right now - caught a large one the last two times out.  Wish they had been bass.  The bass were from slightly under 2 lbs to 2 3/4 lbs.

Lots of current in the river and through the jetties.  Caught the bass in White House.  There's clearer water in the back.  Fish all came on plastics - watermelon/red, watermelon/chartreuse, & red/black.  No luck on spinner baits and crank baits.  Water temp started about 62 and was at 68 when we left.  Lot of people fishing.  Heard Caspiana was crowded with boats this morning too.

bryan

fished the red today in a fruit jar tourney with some people from work.  Had a good day with 5 fish going 13 1/2 lbs.  all fish were caught on watermelon red  flukes in about 2 to 3 feet of water.  in all we caught about 40 with the majority about 2lbs, but did manage a 41/2 lb kicker. caught most of the fish in caspiana north and the white house area.

Just posting some new info for the river today.  Believe it or not, with the 30 mph winds, i slaughtered them.  I had to have caught at least 40 bass today.  Mostly Females with eggs still, but a few buck bass.  Caught them on spinner baits, brush hogs, senko's and buzz baits. It seems like others around me, couldn't get a bite.  They kept trying to get close to my boat to see what i was using i guess.  I caught them in 2 to 6 feet of water.  Best 5 would have gone 13 to 15 pounds. Good Luck to you and keep posting.

way to go tritonman
glad to hear it
friday i threw about everything you mentioned and fished about the same depths and well you know didnt do to well.Maybe my trolling motor has an alarm on it when you put it in the water to tell the big fish not to bite  lol seriously though triton I would appreciate for you to
dilvuge a little more info on specifics if possible without messing up your honeyholes.I am trying to learn the river but get easily discouraged because i read all of these great reports and do the same as they do and dont get anywhere the same results.I know  I know  thats fishin

I dont have any problem divulging what i did. I was fishing in pool 5 in a backwater area that was really clear.  In wood and grass in the morning and then when the wind picked up, i started hitting the wind blown side of the Hyacinths. The water on the wind blown banks was really murky, but i was throwing a chartreuse spinner bait and they were crushing it.  Hey Mike, this is Aaron by the way.  I'm gonna get rid of my Triton and step up to the big world of the Legend like you did.  I fished the Louisiana Oilman's a few weeks ago on Toledo and test drove one, and I HAVE GOT TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE.  If you know anyone that is looking for a good boat that doesn't have a lot of cash flow, send them my way.  I'm asking 12,000 for mine and thats extremely reasonable.  Oh by the way, the senko's were REDBUG color, buzz bait was Chartreuse and White and the brushhogs were Watermelon Red. Hope that i helped someone out.  Last week i pretty much did the same exact thing, except the fish were out of pool 4 and they were all on wood and no grass at all.  Keep Posting

Great info Aaron  ~c~ Definitely glad to have you on the site ;) Hey all this boy knows his fishing around here ;) ;)  Haven't heard a water temp on the river lately, does anyone know what it is running :-\

If you are going to the Bass Life Banquet ours will be there for everyone to dig threw  ~sweat Hoping to show it off a bit. BTW, Laurie said that when you are ready she can change that screen name of yours to LegendMan  :-*

Make sure you go to the classifieds here on the site and put your boat in there. That is an excellent price and shouldn't last long ;)

Went to the river for a couple hours yesterday evening. Caught 5 or 6. no big fish 2-3 lbers on blades in the wind. Water temp was running 75-76 surface in the wind and mud.

BHenke

Fished this morning from safe light until noon.  Only caught 4 and only one of those would make 12".  Caught the keeper on a spinner bait the three short ones came on a chrome blue rattle trap, Mann's hard nose swim toad, and a Zoom candy bug baby brush hog.  Saw something cornering bait fish up against some rocks first thing this morning but would not hit a buzz bait, spinner bait or rattle trap.  I guess when you have the buffet no need for an appetizer.  Saw a gator soaking up the sun, I don't think she wanted me too close because she hunched up and was staring me down.  Probably had a nest close by.

bryan

fished the river this morning and caught 9 on watermelon red flukes. fished the same area as the other day but not nearly as productive. doesn't take long for the grass to get thick.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on my fishing abilities Mike.  Just wish i could get my fish to cooperate on Tournament days.  DONT WE ALL !!  I will be glad to let Laurie change my name to LegendMan after i get it, if i can ever get anyone that is interested in my boat.  I placed a classified ad on here months ago, and got a few bites, but i couldn't seem to get a picture of it uploaded.  I'm thinking about putting it on the corner of Jimmie Davis and the road that goes beside Reeves Marine.  I have to get rid of mine before i get them to building mine.  Take care and there will be another report coming this weekend.  Not sure if i am gonna go to Toledo or the River again. Depends on the Weather.  Thanks and be safe on the water !
