Gave a call to a friend of mine that went to the Red today....He did catch a few fish....not sure all the details but was mainly on junebug and T. Sunrise worms fished off the banks.....a few on crankbaits...Wind..or lack of it seemed to change things a little...

While on the water he was check by a game warden....He was OK but the official said he just wrote a ticket on a guy that had 20 bass in his boat...10 over...Not sure but think the fine on that is $150 per fish...pretty expensive trip for a few bass....kinda dumb..

Anyway just a reminder to make sure your boat and license is all in order....

Hey guys, I am going to fish the red this saturday for the first time ever.  I live off of Sligo Rd off of Barksdale Blvd.  Where should I put in at and where should I go.  My parents are coming down in 2 weeks and I really wanted to take my dad on the red.  I usually fish caddo, but I thought I would take him to both. Any help would be appreciated.

i know russ very well and i am glad that he made the decision he did with nitro...the people at BPS are top notch when it comes to the biology side of things...she will be well taken care of but i can tell you first hand that he is as nervous as all get out about it...btw my aunt owns a trophy shop and i am going to go in and get him a really nice plaque with a place for the pic of him and nitro as well as a spot to hang the jig...if anyone would like to get together and go in on it maybe we could present it to him at this "party" on behalf of the local anglers...i would include on it who presented it to him...if not i will get it anyway and give it to him myself...just thought it would be a nice way to say thanx...after all he has done alot for our community as well as for the sport itself...just pm me if you are interested...its not a high dollar thing by any means....just let me know...Jeremy

Hi Matt,

Only place I'm really kinda famaliar with is the part of the river out of Clarks....I fish mostly the ozbows and there are several somewhat close to Clarks...White House, Caspiano, Ninock, Bishops Point, etc.

I've use a variety of baits with the best are Rattletraps in Chrome/blue, Natural crawfish, and Silver Shinner......

Ok success at times on Lake Fork crawtubes in Blue Bruiser and Black Neon....also a black/blue jig has produced OK..

White Spinners and clear silver spinners have produced for me at times..

Lately the 100 and 200 series Bandits in Crawfish/orange and crawfish/yellow have been the better baits for me...

And other plastics....black/blue lizard and a friend caught some good fish on junebug and Tiquila Sunrise worms today...

I'd get a map and study it some and use caution when running around ....lots of floating stuff at times and sometimes the rocks around the levies and jetties  come out a little futher than you may think...

Kinda watch how some of the boats are comming in and out of Clarks if you go there....You gotta go through some dead trees in front of clarks then left to the levy you see then right to the river...

Hope that helps a little,
Scottie

Wow if you live off of Sligo you are just a hop skip and a jump away from Clarks, that will be the closest launch to you. Should only be about 15mins from Sligo/Hwy71 intersection. Just head south on Hwy71 just in case you didnt know. Scottie left out a junebug flavored brushhog/ baby brushhog texas rigged works pretty well sometimes. I second the map idea! That place can be very confusing at times.  Better get out there and do some prefishing till they get intown!
;D

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Thanks guys, I ve always wanted to fish the red.  I got a boat last May, my 1st ever, so I am just really getting comfortable in it.  I've got 3 kids, so I dont get to go as near as much as I would like to.  But I ve got a couple of kitchen passes coming up, so thought I would hit the red.

Yeah I forgot to mention in my post that I also got checked yesterday.  I told him it was the first time I have been checked since moving here last August.  He said now that hunting season is over that he will be on the water more. I am glad they are cracking down on people that keep more bass than they are allowed, I bet some people clean as many as they catch every time they go out including big ones.

:roll2: Wished I had that kinda problem. Thats never an issue with me I never catch more than one or two at a time.

Still fun though
I caught you a delicious bass!

~c~ Im so glad they nailed him.  I hope that explains my comments over the summer about my annoyance with those that never release or rarely.  I know it didnt sit well with some, but there are too many idiots that do exactly what that guy did.  Moderation is always ok, but hoping to balance out the pilgrims that rape the river for no good reason I'll never keep a fish.

Had another fun day on the Red...

Caught at least 25 largemouth bass and 40-50 white bass....

Caught the largemouth on several lures with most comming on crawfish/yellow and crawfish/orange 100 Bandits, and 1/2 oz. silver shiner Rattletraps....and a few on plastics.....most of the bass were little dinkers but did catch some nice ones also including one 18.5 inches right at 4 lbs..

Had a blast with the white bass..Caught most of them on the silver shiner trap but caught them on the  Bandiits also......Didn't keep very many but others wanted them so would put them in my net laid in the livewell and give them away when I had 10 or so in it......threw many, many back.....was catching them on nearly every cast for a while.. :)

Water temp was in low 60's early and was up to 64 in most areas I was in later....water was a little more stained than normal also..

The grass/moss is really starting to come up now.....Should be quite a bit by next ABA..

Hawgwild

Hi 5good and welcome to the site....I was out of Clarks today and had a blast..If you want to have some fun have someone show you how to get into the Caspiano oxbow.....Should be plenty heading that way tomorrow..

If you want to have some fun with the white bass go to the inside point on the backside of the area...Kinda hard to explain but there is a group os dead trees still standing..the last group of dead trees as you go around the point...fish to the right of those..

Be carefull...lots of floating logs and such now....and plenty of stumps just under the surface..Be carefull around the rock levies also..they sometimes come out further than that appear..

Read my last post I just made for more details on the baits used..

Let us know how you did....

Scottie

Mr. bigmouth

rattlinscottie
im heading to river tom. out of clarks .What kind of boat are you in and will you be at the river tom? I went to caddo today and caught 6 with one over 8 pounds but the kind of action you are talking about sounds really good as i will be fishing in the st judes tourny in a couple of weeks out of clarks with the 40 and over bass club..I read your posts all the time and use your info alot would like to meet you someday.

Hawgwild

Wow Mr. Bg.....I may get the numbers sometimes but those big one's contimue to allude me... :(

I'm in an older 17' Alumaweld with 70 hp. Yamaha.....And yes I would enjoy meeting you out there one day...

Want be going tomorrow...probably be next Saturday before I can get back...plus have the ABA tourny next Sunday...anyway,  if you are famaliar with Caspiano go around to the backside and fish the north bank...

Back up on the point where I caught the white bass you'll likely pick up a largemoutth sometimes...I did get a few keepers there today....

The 4 pounder I caught today was all the way into the stump field on the very back of Caspy...

Those white bass may not be the best eating....unless cleaned properly....but they sure can put up a fight...it was a blast today..

There were also lots of boats in and out of the area today...don't think I've seen that many in Caspy since I started fishing it..

I'll be looking for you My. Big..

I also had a good time on the River today(Saturday). Me and my Dad went out of Clark's around 8:00am. We didnt have the numbers but we caught some gooduns. We went down to Ninock first thing for about three hours with no fish to show for our efforts. We fished the deep stumps for the most part.

We tried all the normals. Blades, jigs, tubes, brush hogs etc. etc. We made a move back North around11:00. Got the first fish in the boat at 12:00 on a trap. She was a little over 4#'s, then within the next hour and a half we caught three more just like her, and lost two just like her as they were coming to the boat. We put 6 in the boat with the best 5 going over 17#'s. All on traps.
The fish seemed to be holding together in tight little areas

It was a good time and a beautiful day to be on the water. I just wish we could get into fish like that on tournament days.  I am also fishing the St Jude tournament on 3/18. Thats my dad and his club putting it on. It truly is for a great cause and hope we get a good draw. They have one in Baton Rouge every year that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Have a Good Time and Be Careful,
                                                   Danny

By the way, I am glad to say that all those
pregnant fish were safely returned back to the
water they came from.

Sorry Scottie, just read that the St Jude tourny is an amature event, no pros allowed! Anybody that catches as much fish as you has to be a pro!  :roll2: HAHA just pickin bud its all for a good cause, to bad I have a buddy wanting to ride with me, you would make a great person to have in the boat.

WOW things arent looking too good, I tried the two spots and nothing at all. I know I coulda picked up some in Caspy but I was looking for a new spot. Oh well, I have off a few days next week. Maybe I will have a plan B by then.
I caught you a delicious bass!

BHenke

Launched at Clark's at safe light and fished until 1330.  Hope I don't execute on Sunday the way I did today thats for sure.  Started off throwing a buzz bait since the water where I started was 61 degrees, not even one looker.  Switched to a brown green jig with green pumpkin trailer. Pulled up to a point where I have caught some before and pitched my jig into about 4 foot of water with some stumps, felt something different and next thing I know my line is moving fast to the left.  Set the hook and she did not even move,  finally surfaced and I was already thinking about getting the scale out to see how much she would weigh when she gave one good shake of her head and there she went.  I know she was bigger than the 5 pounder I caught last month, I would guess she would have gone 6 to 7lbs.  Then I caught a dink on the jig.  Then lost another good keeper at the boat on the jig.  Switched to a Bandit 300 in chartreuse splatter back on a steep bank and picked up my first keeper at 14".  Ran up to White House and caught a 13" on the jig then did a bunch of looking around and a little bit more fishing and that was it for the day.  Five bites, two keepers, one dink and two could have beens. Oh well live and learn.

YOU DID BETTER THAN I DID ON MURVAUL, CAUGHT TWO FROM DAYLIGHT TILL 4PM ~xyz

Red Ranger

Fished the RR today from 6:30 to about 2:30.  Caught 11, with the biggest being 3 12.  Had two or three others come unbuttoned.  Primarily caught them on a spinner.  Generally they were in shallow water, close to the bank.  Water temp started at 66 and then bounced up and down day.

Fished the Red this morning...Caught maybe 12 bass, several white bass, and a perch...

Just couldn't find really what they wanted today....Caught the bass on many lures including shad and chrome/blue traps and several Bandits in varying  colors and debth styles...nothing on plastics..

The largest was almost 3 lbs., but only had 3 other keepers on the small end....The rest of the bass were little dinkers....Not Good with the ABA tourny tomorrow... :(

Water in Caspiano was a little stained and muded up a little from wind amd wave action from boats in and out of the area...Water temp was 66 to start ...bumping 70 on windy banks and higher on calm banks...

On a positive note, I did spend some time fishing different areas and different lures while prefishing for the ABA so somewhat iliminated some of the water I fish and a few lures also....back to the old standby's tomorrow.....including a spinner.... ;D

Good Luck to all fishing the ABA toruny tommorrow...See you at CLarks..

Scottie
