Fished this morning from safe light until 1030. Put a limit of keepers in the boat by 1000 and caught one more short one after that. Caught 5 of the 6 on a chrome Tenn. Shad Bandit 200 and the other one on Gamblers version of the chatterbait that was shad colored. All fish caught around wood. Best 5 were two 15", two 13" and one that made 12". Main river was muddy but the mud had not made it back into where I was fishing.  All the water around Clarks was very muddy also.

Sounds like a great morning......they have been going crazy down there lately. I went Sunday and we caught fish from sun up to sun down. No real big fish, we did manage numerous 3 and 4lbers but 2lbs was the average. Didn't even matter what you threw. Only thing we didn't get bit on was a blade or a crank (didn't throw).

Went down there last night and figured we didn't have a chance after that front blew through, I was wrong. We caught a good bit. Mostly 1.5lbers but did get one three. Caught those on a blade, a crank, and a carolina rig in the wind.

Fished the River this morning from 0615-1100 and boated 3 bass and 1 white bass. The biggest was 13''. 3 came off a white/chart. spinnerbait and 1 off a worm. Water is muddy and 75 degrees. Had a 4' gator bite my spinnerbait but he let go after a about 30 seconds. It was fun anyway!

Take a kid fishing, the smiles are priceless!!!

FIshed twelve mile on saturday. I caught 2 small bass on wtrmln/red baby brushhog and lizard of the same color. I also caught one white bass on a crankbait. Boat beside me TORE up the bass and whites. He was using a chartruse crankbait around the bridge pilings. He would cast it right beside the pilings and crank it down. We tried for a few minutes, but the trolling motor battery was getting low and could not keep up with the current. We did see about 10 snakes. One of them was HUGE....It must have been 4 to 4 1/2 foot long. Did not see any gators though. OH yeah, the shad were schooling at the mouth of twelve mile where the water mixes....But the bass just were not there......

Fished the Red Sat morning. Started the day with White/chart chatter bait and candybug B-brush hog with no luck. Put on a White/chart spinnerbait and caught a goo with it. Through a C-rig up on a rig and missed 2. Had a California 420 tube on. Went to sit the hook on one and hit the TM with the rod tip. I could not stay and work the rig any more because of baseball game. Water was very muddy in most places.

After oversleeping the ABA on Bistineau I did make it to the ABA on the Red.....probably should have overslept on that one too... :(

Caught 5 bass, 3 white bass, and a very nice white perch...and couldn't weight none of them...

Did get to meet BHenke and his very nice Triton...Howdy pard.. :)

I started in White House, went to Caspy, then back to White House...Water was pretty muddy in Caspy and clear to just a little muddy on front end of White House....

Looked like many were flipping in the holes on the moss...probably should have done the same...

Did hear a couple of gators bellowing at each other..VERY close to me in the bushes....glad they stayed there..

Next ABA is a 2 day on the Red next month and last of local season.....think I better get to finding some fish.. ;D

Meant to add...dont have exact weights, but 11+ won the tourny and I believe it as 9+ to place.. 7 places paid..

Big bass was near 4.5 lbs and #2 big bass was a little over 4...

I had a total of three bites during the tournament Sunday with a big fat donut for weigh in.  One missed my buzzbait first thing in the morning then caught a 11" on a Bandit 200 in Tenn. Shad Chrome around noon. Went back to where I started and missed a hookset somehow fishing in 12' of water with a Zoom baby brush hog in candy bug.  Fought the fish for about 5 seconds then just came undone. Think I missed it because it had been so long since I had a bite that I was going delirious from the heat.

Hawgwild

Yep...it did get warm...and gonna get hotter....

Crazy fishing...I had some great days during the winter and early spring in the worst of conditions...now that it is nice weather I can't seem to get a good bite... :(

Guess it's time for a new plan... ;D

Did ok this Am 8-1030 on 12 mile.  Nothing big max was about 1.5.  Missed 1 decent one flicked off2 and caught 6.  Friend of mine caught 1 decent one.

Just curious what you were fishing with and what type of structure! i didnt think there is much structure around 12 mile?

Hawgwild

Not sure what they were using on Twelve Mile, but many were using watermellon baby brush hogs with stail dipped in chartruese Spik-it.....what few fisn I caught came on that lure...

I also saw many working the edges of the moss beds..flipping their lure in the openings and just jigging it for a bit...should have done that myself.. :(

i was using an array of crankbaits and he was using a red bug worm. Chartruese and then crawfish colored.

I have caught a few decent sized...2-3pounders on said brush hogs.

There is some structure that is stand alone type. In present conditions... read no current i found them in weird places.  close to some stumps etc but no real pattern.  The biggest problem with 12mile is the fish for food types. I have no problem eating fish, but im a sportsman at heart, but 12mile issue is just about everything that is caught is eaten. Those that know 12 mile know where that little "camp" is and I used to be able to nail 2-4 pounders there.  Decent consistency.... 2 or 3 at a time.  Well i was seen pulling in a 3lber by a boater, and I havent got a nibble in the area since.  Kinda disappointing for me as it was in a spot that ive never seen anyone fish, and it was a pretty consistent spot.
I was getting bites in the heat of the summer in that area too....
Again... i fully understand that not everyone is fishing for the thrill of the catch. I have not desire to change them or begrudge their actions, its just that 12mile has tiny bass that are "culled" daily.  If you find a spot thats good don't let anyone see you pull a fish... and youa re alomst better off putting it in the well, and relocating it to your own pound or bayou

~c~ I'm with ya man. I have no problem keeping a fish or 2 here and there to eat, love em. When i say a fish or 2 i mean small fish 12-14 inches. There are tons of those size fish. A good 2, 3, or 4 lbs fish is meant to be caught another day. That fish is at its prime in growing size. I go out fishing for the thrill of the fight and just to have that little bump at the end of a plastic. I tell the guys that i work with about it and they say that fish are meant to be eaten, not released. I watched in horror one day as a guy on stillhouse hollow reservoir in texas catch at least a 10-12 lb fish during the spawn almost right next to me. Dude had the nerve to tell me that that fish was all he needed for that nights fish fry. i just cranked my motor and soaked him when i pulled out. made me sick.  That's what us sportsman have to put up with on the water. Later

Lets try and not get this started on here agian.....just post reports. please~!

Got on the river this morning from safe light until noon.  Did 300% better than Sunday cause I put three keepers in the boat. Big one was just over 17" caught on a Bandit 200 in citrus shad. Caught a 16" on a 3/8oz black and white spinner bait and a 13" on a Bomber crankbait in citrus shad that dives deeper than a Bandit 200. Had another keeper hooked up on a buzzbait first thing this morning that got off and had a couple try to get the buzzbait but missed.  Also caught on the Bandit 200 were one small channel catfish, one small gasper goo, one yellow bass(first time I have seen one here, many of the lakes back home in Iowa have been overrun with these and they have to kill off the lake and start from scratch restocking), and a couple of short bass.  All fish were caught in 4-10' of water around stumps and returned to the water to be caught another day!

I would say it was about the same to a little worse in some areas. I went to Shaw Lake today for a while and the water there was pretty clear but other than that everywhere else I went was stained up pretty good. I am sure that White House was probably clear as well but did not go in there.

Fished RR today from safe daylight till about 1:30PM on Friday.  ^-^ was it HOT... Anyways, fished out of clarkes. The topwater bite early in the morning was really slow. Did manage a good size fish on a white buzz bait. It also got blown up on several more times with just the one taker. Caught 3 more keepers on flukes/lizards. Fishing the grass is the only place we could get bit. Caught probably 8 to 10 more smaller fish. The big ones just weren't biting for us. Did manage to hook a good solid fish off some dead timber. Got him all the way to the boat, but he managed to make one last run and straighten out my hook. Caught ALOT of sun. Burnt the top of my legs, my neck and my arms. My fishing partner was wearing sandals.....His feet looked pretty rough yesterday. Can only imagine what they feel like today. Saw some huge snakes and alot of catfish flippin'. SO, I know where I am going to catfish the next time I go out.

Went to the Red and got started at safelight..

Went straight to the backside of White House...and as expected water was very clear.started fishing grass with watermellow baby brush hog and spiked tail...Missed a few and caught 2 small ones....went back to the front of White House and and caught 4 more on 200 silver shiner Bandit...

Then bream fished for a while about 9:30...caught a bunch but only kept about 10 of the biggest...

Decided to leave but stopped and fished the rocks leaving White House and found the best action of the day....Picked up 4 more keepers, one large bream, and big goggle-eye.. :) all on he watermellon brush hog with spiked tail....I think I nearly put the bream in low orbit.. lo    Probably could have done better there early or later in the day when there was a little more shade...sun was really starting to bare down by then...

Was a fun day but need to find the bigger fish..

Crustaceous

Took another nephew fishing today, and found the fishing as tough as it was yesterday at Caddo.  Six hours and two dinks later, called it a day.

One tip...I let the boat die as I was coming into the lock, and couldn't get it to start.  Smelled gas eventually, so figured I flooded it by letting it idle so long.  Trolled out of the lock, still couldn't get it started, so tried to fish in Ninock, but wind was too bad to fish where I wanted, got back into the river, and floated for a while.  Then, during a stroke of genius, looked at....yup....you guessed it.  I had bumped the kill switch tying off.  One flick, one bump of the key, and an hour wasted later, and we were off just like we were supposed to be.

Sometimes brains and fishing don't collide.

:(

Hawgwild

Don't feel bad Crustaceous..went to Caddo a few week back..motored to our fishing area..stood up....had the kill switch attached to my vest...and pulled the kill switch loose...

Later was going to just crank the motor and idle to another spot close by so didn't pick up my vest or would have seen the cord loose...course I had done forgot about it by then...

So we just fish and trolled back to the landing...maybe a mile...and on the way home it finally hit me about the loose cord to my kill switch... ;D  replaced and cranked just fine...

Oh yes..forgot to put the plug in my boat when launching at Cross Friday... lo

Nobody Knows The Trouble I've...oh well...just another normal day at the lake.. ;D

skeeter_bite

Fished from daylight till noon, only managed four small fish, all about 14 inches.  Caught two in Ninock area, fished there most of the morning, then headed up to rocks nearer Whitehouse, caught two more on the rocks near the river.  Caught three on ribbit frog, missed another hookset, and the last one came on a tube.  Saw a couple of guys catch some dinks on a spinnerbait in the grass.  Didn't seem to be a lot of activity this morning...maybe it was too cloudy.  Still beats going to work!
G Loomis rods and Shimano reels!

Hawgwild

Hey Skeeter...probably saw you there...We also fished aroung the grass and rock at White House...was me and my wife in a little grey alumaweld...

Anyway we started at Caspy...not a hit..so headed for White House...Started fishing the grass with Pop-R and plastic...Wife missed a few on the pop-r and I picked up a small keeper and a 14.5 incher on spiked watermeller Baby brush hog..

Went bream fishing for a while and caught many...kept 18 of the best ones then headed back and fished the rocks on way out of white house..

Picked up a nice one near 16" and another dink also on the baby brush hog and headed on in...

Nice day but bite did seem a lot slower than on Saturday..I think a little more wind early would have helped...

Fished from safe light until 1230. Caught 14 total but only 4 of those would have made 12". Started fishing a grass flat right off the main river first thing this morning with a buzzbait. Had several blow ups but only managed one there that ended up being my big one of the day at 15". Moved into some back water and caught two keepers on a Bandit 200 in Citrus Shad.  Moved back to some grass and caught my other keeper and had another come loose on a 1/4oz spinner bait. Caught several little ones on these baits and also caught some short ones on a Bandit 300 in LA Shad fished on a steep drop ledge and a Stanley Ribbit fished over grass.
