Fogy

What a beautiful day to be on the water. Got to Clark's at 0600 but did not put the boat in the water until the fog lifted some around 0730 or so and fished till around 1330.  Caught around 15 bass but only 5 were over 12" and missed another keeper the shook off near the boat. All the keepers were caught on a Bandit 200 citrus shad crankbait. Caught some of the smaller ones on spinnerbait, jerkbait, rattle trap and junebug lizard.  Had a big ole crappie that hit my 3/8oz spinner bait but it got off before I got it in the boat.  The gasper goo were biting good today also.  Caught four of those including one that was probably around 7 or 8 pounds. As I was trying to unhook the big one from my crankbait next to the boat my line broke, so if anyone catches a goo with a citrus shad crankbait stuck in its mouth I want it back!  Lots of people fishing today, I bet there was over 200 trailers in the parking lot when I left.

Hit the river this morning from 0645-1000 and boated 6 bass, 1 drum, and 1 snake. 3 bass would wiegh 6-7 #'s total the other 3 where dinks. The drum was 6-7 #'s and it was fun. Water was stained and 75. All but one fish came off a trick worm in 3-5 feet of water mostly on bare banks.

I caught you a delicious bass!

He got his fangs hung in the back of my trick worm. I looked at him and then shock it off. I see 10-15 snakes everytime I go down there.

the Fish & wildlife still telling people to shoot the snakes? I was told by one  PoPo to feel free as the lack of rain was causing the snake population to skyrocket.
I never shot one, and only had one chase the boat...so i wasnt to concerned, plus  the report would scare the fish... :)

Well I will be glad to shoot snakes, just wanted to remind people that bullets will ricochet on water so please be careful of other boaters near. Perhaps keep a pellet gun in the boat. happy hunting

I would go with ratshot for .22 cal pistol or a high powered air rifle.

I believe I would check with other law enforcement agencies like state police and call the wildlife and fisheries office, etc., before carrying a firearm on the water...Unfortunately things have gotten so crazy with this with our laws and freedoms I really don't know what is legal or illegal anymore..

I've no doubt that if you were on the water at night and had a firearm in the boat running lines, etc. you could be charged with spotlighting game...

Don't really see a problem with air pistols or pellet guns though..

agree scottie, thats why i asked.  I know last year the F&G said knock yourself out.  and the Sheriff said bring a 9mm or better...... I didnt bring anything.

I think a pellet is the best idea. Im not looking to kill everything.  Plus I spoke to one guy that killed 25 snakes... a bit much if you ask me. There is an ecosystem you are messing with

BHenke

Fished from safe light until 1330. The good news is there are lots of little bass in the river for next year.  I caught 12 bass with 4 being over 12", also caught a couple goos(those things sure do fight good).  Had one bass that shook off near the boat that would have given me a limit. Biggest one was 16", couple of 13" and one that squeaked in at 12". Tried some topwater near Bishop Point first thing this morning but only had one slap at my buzzbait. All my fish came on chrome black rattle trap, Bandit 200 in Citrus Shad and Hot Chocolate around stumps.  Fished some plastics(candy bug) also and had some bites but not so sure they were bass, I think they were tail biting bream.

Ranger361

just a question, are these reports mostly from the pool 5 area? thank you

Hawgwild

Hi Ranger...correct...most of us are going out of Clarks - Pool 5

I spend most of my time in Caspiano...just like it there.. :)  but really nead to fish other areas more...

Hey Ranger...I difinitely will give that some thought myself...Is it the 10th or 17th?...Just checking dates online and say's the 10th..

And a little quick info...Is this a team tourny, drawn tourny, fish alone, fees.?

The last ABA of the season will be the first weekend in June also so may have some of those folk join in also....been averaging over 60 boats in those...

Should be getting plenty of reports between now and then here..

Hey all, it's me again.  Let me start out by saying " I TORE THE BASS'  ^-^ up today !"  I probably caught 30 fish.  Caught one of the biggest GOO's i have ever layed my eyes on. He had to be 10 pounds. But back to the Largemouth, they were all caught in 2 to 8 feet of water on Watermelon Candy Brushhogs and a blue and white spinnerbait.  I could not believe how aggressive they were.  They were all caught in current also. I was in pool 4 and they are all moving out to their summer patterns.  On the river in the rocks and timber.  Caught some really fat females and a few scrawny males. From what i could tell of the females, they appear to still have eggs in them, but they could just be full of shad.  Hope this helps !  Till next time, be careful and good luck fishing ! :)

Ranger361

youre right scottie it is the 10th.......lol, i wouldve been a week late.

Fished the Red yesterday. After hauling in that cat fish, went and did some bass fishing. Fished a few miles south of Jimmy Davis in some canals on the east side of the river. Picked up one on a spinnerbait but that was it. Did some C-rig with senko and tubes but no bites.

Went to the Red this afternoon..On the water about 1:30...Tried a new area (for me) down toward White House and picked up 3 little ones..1 on Pop-r and 2 on crawfish rattletrap...

Left there and headed for Caspiano...Started bream fishing bank line..I had bought 50 crickets and used them all...caught lots of bream but only kept 12 of the best ones.. :)

Started bass fishing again right before sunset..Tried different topwater but a clear Tiny Torpedo did the trick...caught 5 more bass on that one but all were small...

Had a good time and saw 2 small aligators about 14 inches long... :)

Today was one of those days that keep you coming back to fish. Fished from safe light until 1430. Boated over 20 bass and 15 of those were keepers.  Finally got a buzzbait bite going(overcast all day means buzzbait all day) although they were not crushing it they would just kind of pull it under. I think the top water bite will only get better in the next couple weeks. Caught around 12 or so on a 1/4 oz white buzzbait including my big one of the day a 18.5"er that went 3lbs 8oz on my scale although I don't know how accurate it is. Caught around 5 on a white 3/8oz chatterbait and lost one that was just as big or bigger than the one I caught on the buzzbait. She got around a stump and I tried to horse her around it and my line broke.  Was not so mad about losing the fish it was the $6 bait she took with her, but if I would have lost one like that during a tournament I know I would have been more upset.  Caught another 5 or so on a Zoom green  pumpkin red super hog Texas rigged with a 3/16oz weight. My other four biggest were a 16", two 15" and a 14". If I would have got the other big one to the boat I would have had a halfway decent limit but cant complain cause I had a blast catching them on topwater finally.

Forgot to mention. Most were caught around wood in about 3-4ft of water with deep water nearby.

Fished the river yesterday, did really well. All on a buzzbait....what a blast....

Clark

fished the river 5-5 & 5-7 from 1030 to 1600 both days. between my neighbor and I we caught 20 the first day and 15 the next. a few small ones but most coming in at at about 2lbs. Launched out of Biships and all fish were caught in Little Ninock on shad colored crankbaits and watermelon red lizards.

BHenke

Fished this morning from safe light until 1030. Put a limit of keepers in the boat by 1000 and caught one more short one after that. Caught 5 of the 6 on a chrome Tenn. Shad Bandit 200 and the other one on Gamblers version of the chatterbait that was shad colored. All fish caught around wood. Best 5 were two 15", two 13" and one that made 12". Main river was muddy but the mud had not made it back into where I was fishing.  All the water around Clarks was very muddy also.
