Fished ABA tourney today.  Got a phone call at 1100 saying I need to report to work so I only got to fish until 1300. I hate fishing in the wind and that is something we had plenty of today. Caught 6 total fish with 3 keepers for a measly 3.84.  Two came on a Bandit 200 in Hot Chocolate at the first place I stopped.  Caught my other keeper on a jig and wished I could have fished that area some more cause that is where I missed my big one the other day but I had my trolling motor on high just to keep me in place.  One of my friends told me tonight that 16 something took first and you needed 13 to get in the money.  I guess I will make a donation again in two weeks when the next one rolls around. Oh the bugs were really bad today also,  took me over an hour scrapping with my fingernails to get those  ^-^ things off my boat.

Marty

A friend of mine who was fishing it called & said he got 2nd place with 15.22.  He said it was windy as  ^-^.  I guess he figured out what they wanted to eat.

Well..Disapointing day for me in the ABA....Looks like most caught fish but me.. :'(

Did catch 9 but only one would weight at 2.1 lbs.....Oh well...another one if a few weeks...plus may fish the St. Judes tourny Saturday...

The winner had 16+ lbs and big bass...if I remember right...was a nice 6.91 lbs..

Beautiful day at least allthough the wind was a little tough.....and yep...the Bugs have arrived.. ;D

Note: There are some schedule changes for the ABA Tourny's...Details should be posted soon on the ABA website but there will be one tourny scheduled for the Red moved to Bistineau..

Fished the ABA yesterday. Only put 4 in the boat with 3 that would weight 5.6. Could not get a big bite. All 4 came on a Watermelon/Red z-nail worm.

The critters are out, bugs and snakes. I saw about 15 to 20 snakes yesterday.

Clarks would be South of Bossier City, LA...on hwy 71...I'd say about 15 miles...Closest town would be Elm Grove or Atkins...And that is in Pool 5..

They have a couple of signs on the side of the road leading to the landing when you get near the marina..

They have 3 nice ramps, plenty of parking, small restaurant, bait, gas, etc..

Heard a rumor the other day that Clark's sold their marina, not sure if this is true or not. Anyone know about this?

Going out of Clarks in the morning, hopefully they are biting.

Danny

We went to the River Sunday. Caught three fish, man was that wind tuff. Caught them on candybug baby brush hogs.

Dennis is the new owner of Clarks. Real nice guy. I havent noticed any change around their.

Is that new marina going to be in the Port Lake? Looks like it is.

Plan on fishing the St Jude tournament this weekend. As of right now I am in, but today I came down with the bird flu and I am feeling like ccrraappp.

That stinks they are putting it into port lake.  There are some big fish there.  I wonder where they will go now with all the traffic an construction.

Hawgwild

Wow...Looks like a lot of tourny's out of Clarks Saturday...I'll be fishing in the St. Judes benefit tourny and know of at least 2 others....Might aught to get there early... :)

Jeremy..hopefully we can catch up to those baits..I'll send a PM about that..

TB44.....I know the fish are definitely on the beds and many have already spawned...Had a friend fish out of Clarks this week and was catching fish in 2 feet of water and on out to deeper water also...Guess they area kinda in and out.....He kept some and said out of the ones he cleaned none had eggs..

I'm gonna start out fishing lizards and some shallow cranks and also other baits in deeper water..

Good luck to all,

Fished out of Clarks today from safe light until noon.  Lets just say today was much better than on Sunday.  Had a five fish limit in the boat by 0830 and would have been sooner but had one get off my crank bait.  Helps when the wind is not blowing 30mph across the area you want to fish. Caught ten fish for the day with 7 over 12" including two fat 16".  Weighed one of the 16" and she went 2lb 8oz. Caught all except one on a Bandit 200 in Hot Chocolate. Tried throwing some plastics and a jig but did not get any bites.  Most fish were caught in 4-6 ft range with deeper water nearby.  Also had something big other than a bass grab my crankbait and gave me one of the best fights I have had in a while fishing.  I think I fought whatever it was for close to ten minutes going around and under the boat stripping drag and then gaining some ground on it when it went under the boat one more time and came off.  I only got it close to the surface twice and it looked to have scales so was thinking it was a big gar or carp.  I have not had a fight like that on a rod and reel for years but sure wish I knew what kind of fish it was.

OK, here's a rainy day question, and I know this isn't the correct line to ask this question, but it's the best one I know of.....can anyone tell me anything about fishing on Cane River in Natchitoches or Black Lake near there?

I'll be in Natchitoches next weekend and wanted to get some fishing in near there......Grand Bayou is another option, of course, but I thought I'd look at some new water, too.

Thanks...

Hawgwild

Well..it was a cold, windy, rainy day on the Red today...so must have been in a tournament... lo

Myself and friend teamed up and fished the St. Jude benefit tourny on the Red today...

Had a fair day of fishing but no size to ours...We weighed in 8.63 lbs of fish...Caught fish on a variety of baits but probably the better was a crawfish rattletrap and black/blue Berkley lizard...

There were 30 boats I believe in the tourny and they paid out 4 places...

4th place had 14+ lbs of fish...3rd place had 16+ lbx...2nd place had 17+ lbs....and 1st place had a very nice 20+ lbs... ~c~

Big bass was 5+ lbs and 2nd big bass was also in the 5 lb range...

My pard had the catch of the day though but it wouldn't weigh...A water mocason swam up to our boat...he tried to scare it off by slapping his lure in the water near the snake.....some how he managed to snag the snake in the tail and the fight was on.. lo

He did decide to cut the line and let the stake have the Bandit lure... ;D

Well...AbA tourny is next Sunday on the Red again...

See you there,

Scottie

Hawgwild

Just curious..Anyone that fished the St. Judes tourny have any idea where the winner caught all those big fish and on what bait?

That was one nice string at 20+ lbs.

we had our club tourny there yesterday as well...i weighed in at 10.02...big one for me was 3.34...didnt have a keeper in livewell till 1 pm...caught 12 with none that would weigh...the guy i drew had a limit by 8 am lol...then we moved to another area and go 11 within 30 minutes...i was in a high  by then..i was upset because this is my first full yr in the club and i am in 2nd overall with a 2nd place last tourny...so i wanted to secure a little credibility and i thought i was going to zero...we prefished friday and caught about 20...best 5 probably 8 lbs...all small males off the beds with one kicker off a rogue in 8ft of water on the edge of grass...we were only catching small ones so we had to abandon plan 1 and plan 2 wasnt woth a damn lol...we took a gamble and ran to another spot...and god did it pay off...at the end of weigh in yesterday i was in 2nd..so i will atleast get a top 10...out of me and my buddy we had 10 fish...out of those 10, 7 still had the egg belly lookso i assume they had not been on the beds yet...also i have a question...i had a little male i caught and i dropped him in the bottom of the boat...to make him stop flopping i put my foot on him and he began top squirt...i assume that was sperm right? i know when you get a bream and it does that...thats what it is...thanx for the input......hope the ABA is that productive for me this weekend..lol...Jeremy

I fished the St Jude tournament Saturday also. I had fun in the cold, windy, rainy, windy, cold, rainy day of fishing. Caught fish in the stumps pretty much all day.

Had 5 fish in the boat by 8:30am. Caught one on a white spinnerbait and one on a red craw trap, the rest came on a white/red Rat-L-Trap.

Had a four pounder rap around a stump and come unbuttoned. Man I hate it when that happens.

I ended up weighing 11.10, not even close to the top ten, I dont think. Them boys brought some good fish to the scales yesterday.

I dont know where or how the winners caught those fish . Sure would like to.

Anyhow the tournament was a success. We raised somewhere around $2400. Had an excellent turnout considering the bad weather. We will have this event next year and years to come.
It will be bigger and better next year.

And thanx to everyone who came and thanx Ultimate Bass, this is a great website and getting better.

Danny

Mr. bigmouth

I also fished the st jude tourney..weather wasnt the greatest but, could have been a heck of a lot worse.I had a great time and caught alot of fish although small.
The club gave away alot of prizes to people in the tourney, some really nice prizes I might add.
I would encourage everyone to look out next time because the tourney will be bigger and better next time.Would recommmend it to anyone to fish.
I personally thank all the guys that fished in the not so great weather and I hope they had a really good time, I know I did

good fishin

Despite the rough weather conditions which included cold, wind and rain ~rain, the March tournament on the Red River was a success. There were 30+ members and guest that fished the tournament and brought to the scales many fish limits and some nice weights.

John Roberts was the big winner with his 5lb 9oz bass to take both the tournament big bass and the optional big bass pot. Kenny Wilson brought the largest stringer to the scales.  ~c~

All of the statistics will be provided at the meeting this coming Thursday night at the Enlisted Club on Camp Beauregard. Meal will begin at 6:00PM with the meeting starting at 7:00PM. To see a complete show of pictures taken at the weigh-in click http://www.inalbum.com/show/laskeeter/
