I am one who bad mouths the river.....I stand corrected....Caddo is better though. ;D

Hawgwild

Awesome fish...Bet there want be any black neon jigs and craws left if Shreveport soon.. ;)

Gonna get mine tomorrow... ;D

Just curious as to where these fish come from....Do you think this is possible a native bass...a bass that grew from the Florida fingerlings stocked in the Red...or possibly from Caddo via the Twelve Mile Bayou...

Also Big Bass Tourny's have been held and perhaps some of those were released into the Red and grew to that size...

What do you think?

Scottie

Chris

RS, I was wondering the same thing. To be a native bass it would surely be an extreme freak of nature. That fish had great color....like it was in clear water ...maybe the back of an oxbow.

Great catch Russ and thanks for the info Jeremy!

Me and Kenny fished the red today down below the jimmy-davis bridge for a few hours and boated one 2#er on a black/blue brush hog. Water was 44 and stained to muddy.Had to come to work at noon so we just looked for some new water.

Well I am going to the swepco lake again tomorrow to see if I can get one in the holding tank @ BPS so his baby can  have some company!!! I sure hate to see that poor fish all alone, hehe. The weather should clear up tomm and be a pretty day. Not sure if the fish will be doing much after this front passes through tho.

I caught you a delicious bass!

Got the Red this morning...yep...I did

Took a little while to get on the water and then find what they wanted...but finally did...

Chunked spinners, traps, tubes, jigs....Finally put on a crawfish/orange series 100 Bandit and the fun began....Caught 4 on that color up to 15+ inches with one under....

Bite kinda slacked off as rain let up so switched to a crawfish/yellow 100 Bandit and bang....second cast caught a 20.5 incher at 4 lb. 14 oz....She was fun and my best fish this year...hopefully another will honor me with a bite again in a few weeks during the ABA.. :)   Picked up 2 more on that color..

Funny thing...Had a coupe of good fish pop my Bandit but didn't get the hook...then followed the bait all the way to the boat...had I paused the bait a moment at the boat they may have took it again...something to think about..

Anyway...had a good day with 6 keepers and 1 under..all on the bandits...

The sun started to come out and the rain quit so I headed home...Just wasn't going to fish under those conditions... ;D

Those bandits are awesome little baits.  Thoses river bass lovem too. ;D

BHenke

Launched from Clarks at safe light and fished until noon. Water temp started at 48 and was 50 when I quit. Caught one 14" on a green and brown jig with a green pumkin trailer, that was the only bite I had.

Congrats Scottie, I had some fun with a bandit lure today too! I used the bandit 200 baby bass though in some deeper water and caught about 7 fish. They were kinda small though, largest being around 2#'s. We were at the swepco late today again. My buddy ended up catching the biggest one again ::) a 5.5# hawg!!!  :o It was his first fish of the day. He only caught 3 fish today but they were good ones. I caught 7 keepers and 6 smaller ones, 13 in the boat total. Then a decent one got off at the boat. Most of them came on a small silver/white willow spinner that I added weight too so I could cast it and fish it deeper. 3 fish came from drop shoting a Zoom finese worm around laydowns. Got two off the same tree, hehe. That was my first time tryin drop shoting, I guess im sold on that style of fishing as long as you have the right kind of cover. Had a great day of fishing! To bad I didnt get one for the bass pro holding tank.
maybe one day.  ~roflmao
I caught you a delicious bass!

Red Ranger

Took the boat out for the first time this year to make sure everything was in working order.  Fished from 2:30 to about 5:30.  Had one bite - caught one fish - weighed almost 4#.   Caught it on a black & blue Sweet Beaver.

Mostly flipped.  Fished a rattle trap a little and spinnerbait - but no takers.

Water temp was 54, sky was blue, sun was yellow, and wind was cold.

GOING TO FISH RIVER TOMORROW. HAD PRETTY GOOD LUCK COUPLE WEEKS AGO WHEN I WENT. WATER TEMP SHOULD BE BACK ON THE RISE, MABEY ILL RUN INTO SOME FISH!!!

My partner and I fished a tournament on the Red Saturday in Pool 3. We weighed in 10.13 with 5 fish. They were all caught on a white spinnerbait. Unfortunately my partner didn't have any help in the boat with him! He only had one more bite. It sounds like I should have tied on a Bandit. I actually thought about throwing a crankbait but it was raining so hard I didn't want to get bend over and get one out of my box. I am just getting too old for that kind of weather!

God bless and good fishing

What yall think about that 13.6 caught the other day?  I believe we will start seeing more of that in the near future.  Maybe, another Lake fork, I hope.  Tell me what you think about that. ;)  My only problem is why in the #ell is the fish being sent to Missouri for testing?  I feel the fish ought to stay here in the state were it came from!  ie.(Texas sharelunker program)  just my thoughts.

Ron Fogelson

Where did you here it was going to Missouri?  From what I understand from Russ it was to be held in the holding tank and then released into the BPS viewing tank right here in Shreveport

Hawgwild

I was in BPS last Thursday evening and it is true...The folks here want to keep the fish here, but corporate heads want to put the fish in one of the new stores opening somewhere...

I agree that that particular fish should stay in the local BPS.....Maybe we could all write headquarters and let them know I thoughts on this...I just think this fish is special as the largest comming out of the Red by local angler and making state record books to boot..

Anyone going to the Red might want to carry along some crawfish/yellow 100 bandits...maybe crawfish/orange also...

I'm going to try some 200 series also next trip...

heres my 2 cents on it.....what good is a 13lber doing in a tank shouldnt be back in the water where it came from to keep that good seed in the river or atleast send it to a fish hatcery so they can breed it.......seems like that big fish will just end up dieing in that tank eventually.........what a waste!  Although I would like to see it just once...haha just my 2 cents!

I totally agree with you TB44! I spoke with a Wildlife agent Friday night who saw it at BPS, he said she was loaded with roe.

GEO

I agree also. When I spoke with the Game Wardens they told me that Louisiana had a program where you could have lunkers spawned out.  Just like the share a lunker program in Texas.  I don't know if they give you a free replica in LA.  If BPS did what they did for JR Burt they will give a free replica for the fish.  It is a total waste of genetics to place that fish in a tank. My 2 cents worth.
