BIG PAPA

I worked at swepco in the 60's when the lake was pretty new. They have cabins that employees could rent for almost nothing at that time. We caught lots of bass and bream but no real big ones. I did hear about a 12 caught on a shiner by a perch jerker.
Anyway I have fished it many times over the years all through the 70's and early 80's. Never had the pleasure of catching a 4 lb. fish every other fish. I cannot be sure of course but I think someone is pulling your leg about that.

That was my reaction too but he said that they looked like they were being serious. Who knows. The cabins are still there and will be opened up in a few weeks. He said they are free to rent, just first come first serve thing. I told him to put his name on one for one weekend. I would like to catch some bream and crappie myself.

Clint

Lakes change , sometimes they really have good spawns and several years later it is on. Anyway I hope you guys catch a ton of hawwgs ~c~   Let us know I still know some swepco employees ;D

Well hey hey Clint....Yep...I've been there also but a long....long...time ago....My dad retired from Swepco and we would go a run yo-yo's some...Caught some good cats....I would set at the dock at night and bass fish with old creme worms...was very deep there but would get many bite and catch a few sometimes..

We also spent alot of time in the power plant on Caddo...They use to have cabins there that employees of Swepco could check out...we really hauled in the cats there on yo-yo's and trotlines....Caught some good fish in the intakes also..

Looks like it's gonna be a wet cold day Sunday for out ABA tourny...but..I'll be there... ;D

Glad you had a good time at Wilks...

Did a little prefishing for the ABA on Sunday from safe light until 1330.  Had to convince myself to stay away from my two best spots.  Still managed to catch a small limit. Two 12", one 13" and two 14".  Oh yea caught one about 8" too.  Four of the five keepers came on 1/4oz red rattle trap and the other on a junebug baby brush hog. Saw some water that was approaching 57 degrees but that is about to end in the next couple of days.

Hawgwild

BHenky....really appreciate the report...wish we could have a tourny on a day like today...Don't think we've had one yet without a front moving through before the tourny...

They are now talking about freezing rain Saturday and a high of 35 on Sunday....We might even be fishing in the snow... :shocking:

Now that would be a trip.... :roll2:

See you there,
Scottie

Thanks Clint....Fixing to turn in now...I got one of those Coleman Catalitic heaters...May try that....Probably make it an early day and leave by noon....Some folks jsut thank I don't have good since.. ;D ...I coulda told them that... lo

Kinda disapointed as our ABA tourny was cancelled for Sunday and rescheduled for March 12....bummer but I do agree with the decision due to possible hazardous road conditions..

Fished the Red this morning...was it ever cold... :shocking:

Fished everything but the kitchen sink and never got the first bite...fished deep, shallow, slow, and all around...nothing..

Was going to try for some perch but the others wern't doing anything either with that...

I'm so glad they cancelled the ABA now cause it would be a really tough one..

I'll be so glad when it gets warm..and stays that way.. :)

i hear ya man...they still had our tourny on black today and boy...was that wind/rain a pain lol...got to the point where my hands were so numb that it took both thumbs to push the button on my reel lol...still managed an awesome day either way...Jeremy

Was planning on getting on the river sooner than I did but after seeing the 1/4" of ice on my truck this morning figured I better wait until the temps warmed a little. Got on the water at 1100 and fished until 1500. Water temps were 47-49. Had five bites and put five keepers in the boat. Caught first 13" on a red rattle trap then caught a 15.5" and a 14" on a green and brown jig with a green pumpkin trailer. Then the next two, a 13" and another 14", came on a Bandit 300 in Hot Chocolate. I was surprised that I caught five keepers with the cold weather but I also was trying some different techniques because I knew those fish were not going to be shallow today.

Hawgwild

Thanks for the report....Must have been a cold one...again.. :)

I'm thinking I just wasn't fishing deep enough when I was on the water this past saturday...

planning on hitting the red up some next week any info would be appreictated ?

Hawgwild

I've done best with chrome/blue rattletraps.....natural crawfish rattletraps..and silver shinner Terminator spinners...

I also have fair luck with Blue Bruiser and Black Neon Lake Fork brand crawtubes and black/blue jig..

Really can't say what this latest cold snap has done but will find out Saturday....check back then and there will likely be several members on the Red this weekend...

Scottie

TB44
