went to the River today and only caught 3 but they weighed 19.5 lbs. The largest was an 8.3 lb. All came on black neon tubes around noon off 1 spot near Caspiana. Brought the 8 in to take a pic at Clarkes and then released her there. My largest on the river. Still a toilet bowl though lol. lo

Mike Cork

WTG Paul, that is a monster for the river. Looks like you might do alright in that tournament after all :-*

I talked to buddy that fished South Toledo today and he said he had a HUGE day today as well.I also saw Railroaders post. Wonder why the bite was on so well?

Mike Cork

hmmm, could it be the front coming in tomorrow :-* multiply that by weekday fishing and you have the makings for an awesome day on the water. The mild day and partial cloudy day..... Bingo

Supposed to be a big rain producer, but we have heard that several times this year. High for Saturday is supposed to get all the way up to 46-48 with a north wind to 20 MPH. Ready to go fishing :shocking:

I tell ya it was a misserable morning :'( That was one COLD boat ride at daybreak, then the wind was tough to deal with. Later on in the day it started to get better around 12-1pm. Unfortunatly we had to head in b/c my freind I took needed to go to work. It was still slow for us tho, we went to dozer point right off the bat but the wind was so bad I gave up pretty quick and headed to caspy he put one in the boat aorund 9ish in caspy a lil past the bamboo on a chartruse spinner. Then after that nothing.

Congrats on the big one!! I dont think I have ever seen a bass over 8#'s much less caught one that big hehe.  ;PHO)

I caught you a delicious bass!

fished the river today, what a nasty day.  fished the benefit tourney that shreveport fire dept. put on for one of there brother firemen. started off with a fish on my second cast on a rattle trap, about 2lbs. caught fish all day till about 1230. probably caught about 16 or 17 with the biggest 3.12 lbs.  biggest for the tourney was 6.0  there were a couple that were about 5lbs.  most of my fish came on a red rattle trap and a white spinner bait. never thought that the bite would have been that good on a day like today.

Paul Keith

Wet was the word for today. Had 73 people fish the tourney but only a couple of 5-6 lb. bass weighed in. Mostly 1-2 lbers. Had a 2.68 for 7th place. But had some decent prizes down to 27th place. ~rain ~xyz

Most importantly we raised $2,800 for fireman Michael Waites. ~c~ :) ~c~ :)

fished the rmtt today man was it calm out. there were 108 teams in all, boats everywhere.  did manage to catch 12 with the 5 biggest weighing 16.5 lbs, good enough for fourth place. it took 18.5lbs to take first place. big bass was almost 7.  caught all of our fish on blades and traps in about 4 to 5 feet of water. glad to be off the river got pretty bad out as the day went on.

Bryan, are your fish on the river or back in an oxbow, just curious. Also did vegetation play into your pattern at all :-\

i fished as far back in the oxbow lakes as i could go.  i found some scattered grass in about 4 or 5 feet of water.  i had three spots to fall back on but stayed in my first spot all day.  only place i could find fish were places that had good grass present.  grass and lay downs were the key for us.

Mike Cork

Grass is always key! I take it you found some good healthy grass ~c~ Was the water very clear when you found the grass :-\

Launched out of Clarks first thing this morning and fished till about 1230. It was cold but I knew it was going to be so I dressed warm.  Water temps were anywhere from 47-51.  The main river and close to it sure got muddy from the rain we received the other day.  Managed to catch two.  First one was a fat 16 incher on a chrome blue bleeding shad rattle trap and second one was a 13.5 incher on a red craw rattle trap.  Did some looking around at some new water but did not find anything productive. Caught both of those in the same area and did not have any other bites.  Looks like we have another cold front coming through just before the ABA tourney on Sunday.

I have a question...What is a best guess on the distance from Clarks to the very back of Port Lake?

It's exactly about 16 river miles...one way from Clarks to the very back
of Port Lake.  Got this off the Corps of Engineers map.
Ranger Boats aren't Skeeter-ed, Nitro-ed or
                       Triton-ed!!!

Are there any good maps of the river online anyone knows of.  Just curious dont fell lke buying one haha!

well gents i believe to those fishing the river in the ABA this sunday...may be a tough one...only gonna get to like 45 degrees with a decent front pushing through friday or so...good luck to all and dress warm...brrr...Jeremy

Hawgwild

A little late, but fished the Red yesterday..Monday...Waited till it warmed a little...just didn't want to run even my little boat with temps in mid twenty's... :shocking:

Anyway..got on the water around 10:00 and fished till sunset..really turned into a really pleasant day with the lite wind....Tried for some perch a little but no luck...

Wound up with 7 bass total with 5 OK keepers...largest around 16"....4 bass came on crawfish color 1/4 oz rattletrap...1 on white spinner...and 2 and largest on blk/blue lizard...

Yep...like Jeremy said, It's gonna be another fishing after a front ABA  tourny Sunday and cold...maybe even some rain, but at least it looks like it will be clowdy so maybe that will help a little...

See you there,
Scottie

Hey Scottie, I finally got into some fish last sunday. Wasnt on the river of course, hehe. I went with a buddy of mine who works for SWEPCO. He has been on me to take him out to some private SWEPCO lake in Jefferson, I beleave the lake is called Wilks lake. Anyway it was cold that morning, like 29 when we got up!! I told him that there was no way in hell I was fishing that cold so we went about 830am and got there about 10ish. By the time I found some fish it was around 1230-1pm. I asked to go to the return side of the lake where they dump the hot water back into the lake. Fairly close to that was a patch of stumps that was in water from the bank out to about 12-14'deep and the water was in the upper 60's. The first cast landed me a nice one around 2.5#'s. Then my friend snagged one that was about the same size within 5 mins. I was getting excited!!! Then about 10 mins later in the same spot he hauled in a 4# bass. He was freaking out b/c I just got him started bass fishing. Hes addicted now for sure! He was using my old rods n reels but now he went to bass pro and got him 3 new rigs and a tacklebox with assorted lures. We tried other spots but never had any luck so we just went back there. I assume they were hiding out in the stumps waiting on the current to bring bait by there nose. They hit everything we tried, to jigs, cranks, worms, spiners, traps. It was a great day. We caught 10 keepers and I had a nice one get off right at the boat, he was around 3#'s Thats nice to me anyway. We threw away probably about 5 more that were under a pound. He went to work bragging about his 4 # fish from wilks and he said they looked at him like he was stupid and said man thats it?? They told him every other fish should have been 4#'s that the lake is full of bass. On a good day you should be able to get some 8-10# ers out of there.  And that last year a guy came in with 2 10#'s and one that went 12.6#'s Needless to say we are ready to go back, if that was a slow day I want to see a good one.  :shocking:
I caught you a delicious bass!

Railroader

Hey i have been there, i have a friend that is a dispatcher and he took me out there a few years back.. i just wish it was open to the public cause i would love to go back...

whatcam

Yeah I know what you mean. He has been tellin me for months we need to go out there, but I was allways like yeah whatever, I am not driving 1 1/2 hours to Texas to fish some lake we know nothing about when I allready know some spots on the river that I know I can catch fish at. He kept saying yeah you say that now but we will probably go out there and tear em up and you will be beggin me to go back with you. At the time I said sureeeeeeee, lol but now I have to eat my words!!!  lo With Mardi Gras and the rain chances this weekend I dunno if we will get to go, I sure hope so. Maybe if we get out there early in the AM instead of lunchtime maybe we can land some of those bigguns they are speaking of.
I caught you a delicious bass!
