Headed to the Red in the morning if anybody wants to tag along you are more than welcome.  Sometimes its nice to fish by yourself but that gets old after awhile. Plus it sure makes launching the boat easier.

Well....I had one of THOSE days.. :(

Went to the Red this morning...Getting launched OK but then I realized I hadn't unhooked my trailer lights....blown bulbs again.....No biggy..I got extra...ha

So got on out and started fishing and was doing OK....Got about nine bass in the boat and was heading down another bank..

Well..I got hung up on this stump...IT was a real pain to get off...thought I would have to start the big motor..but finally was able to get off....

I had bought some minnows so decided to go try to find some perch...pulled out in the the channel...walked back to start my motor and there is water in the boat..already above decking.. :shocking:

Went to start my bilge bump and it ain't workig... :help:

Got to bailing and saw I wasn't making any headway so decided to pull the plug and run on plane till it drained out....Well guess what...no plug.....anyway got to running and finally got on plane headed back to clarks...finally found another plug and got it plugged back at clarks...

In my excitement I caught one of the baits on my pants leg and snapped the tip on one of my new BPS extreme rods I got for Christmass... :surrender:

Anyway...caught fish on a variety of baits...but the action really picked up when I got in to some shallow water..6-8' and tied on a 1/4 oz natural crawfish rattletrap...they nailed it really good...I usually do better on that color starting about this time of year..

Out of 9 fish 7 were keepers ranging from a little over 12 to a little over 16...

Lord help old bass fishermen.. lo

:roll2: Thats a good story Scottie, glad it ended well. Not all days go smooth huh. I doubt they will be biting much tomm after all of this rain but I am gonna give it a try in the AM. Did you go to the back of Caspy again? I am thinking of starting there tomm morning and maybe I can pick up a couple anyway. I went back to bass pro yesterday and got some jigs n trailers and some tubes n tube rattles. Cant wait to get em wet. Allready bought 3 crawfish colored rattle traps on the first trip. I am starting to get everything back in order. Im gonna get a few stuff here and there with every paycheck. Are you going tomm Scottie?? You never showed me the white house.

Hey Clint...Yep...all the way in the back side where I saw you back there the other day...Fish seemed to be holding near those larger dead trees with the limbs going everywhere..Caught the best fish on that bunch of dead trees toward the right side as you are looking toward the dam... but picked one up toward those in the center also.

Picked up a few more back up to the right of the bamboo earlier but wasn't using the crawfish trap then.....Missed a couple there also so you may want to give that area a quick shot on the way back to the end..

Kinda wish I had started on the back side of Caspy as it was probably close to 10:00 before I got there and tied on the crawfish trap..

BTW: There were pciking up some pretty good perch at the bamboo...saw one boat pull in at least 6 pretty quick while I was bass fishing there.....They were anchored parallel next to the bamboo and were fishing on the outside of the boat away from the bamboo..

Want make it tomorrow...gotta get a new bilge bump and also saw it broke off my transducer mount..... I think this was all the  >:D doings... >:(

Talk about a little warm weather bringing out the fair weather fisherman! You would have thought the Bass Masters Classic was being held out of Clarks.  The funny thing is that the majority of the people waited until it warmed up before they launched because I was fishing at safe light and there was maybe 10-15 boats.  When I got back at 1230 (quit early due to everywhere I went there were boats) the parking lot was full and I passed ten more trailers headed that way on my drive back to Bossier. On to my fishing report.  Water temp 52-56. Got four to the boat and missed another two that came undone at the boat. Three of the four that I caught and the two I missed were on a chrome blue bleeding shad rattle trap.  Caught another one pitching a chartreuse and white spinnerbait towards logs and running it by the laydowns.  Biggest one was 15" and one that I missed at the boat looked to be a little better than that.  Smallest one just 12" and the other two were 13".  I need to remind myself come tournament time not to try and horse the fish when you are dealing with treble hooks.  It is going to bite me in the rear one of these days!

Humm I launched on the Sport side there was maybe 10 trucks there. Didnt seem that crowded to me. I went to Caspy first off and  There was only a couple of boats back there.I beat that place to death with a crawfish rattle trap to no avail, however I was at the very back, I shoulda started off at the front like I usually do and work my way back. Then tried tubes, jigs, brush hogs, lizards, spinners, nothing at all. Finally it was about 10 and I figured I had better try a diff spot, so I went back towards the lock n dam and took that left that runs parallel to the road on back to where it has the small channel before it opens up to the lake and finally caught a couple on a chrome/blue rattle right there in the wood on the left of the channell in about6-8ft deep. Looks like u may have missed another slow day Scottie.  I went and checked out dozer point and there was about 6 boats around there didnt do any fishing just looking around. That looks like some good fishin around there!!

Man I had fun on the water today, nice time burning up gas and chucking and winding all day.  Managed one about 8in on a chrome and blue and that was that.  Let the kids drowned some shiners and Danielle read her book all day.  Motored around some and called it a day about 5pm.  I'm read to let the river drain out and start over.   ~xyz

Hawgwild

Well...Looks like fishing was a little tougher on the Red today...Guess the clear skies after a front changed them up a little...

Sorry you didn't do better back there Clint, but I would have done the same had I gone today...Just different day and totally different conditions..

And thanks for the report Brent and Fogy....It was a beautiful day...allmost spring like.. :)

Well..Looks like I must have pulled a wire loose on my bilge pump....reason it wouldn't work Saturday...bummer..

Anyway...getting things ready and making my plans for another day next Saturday...hopefully without incedent... ;D

Fished the red yesterday afternoon with not much luck. I did not get out there until 2pm. Throw sweet beaver, spinnerbait, crankbait and jig with no bites. Lots of folks out yesterday. Hope it gets better by next weekend or it could be a long day.

I fished the red yesterday from 0700-1300 and caught 2 keepers first thing before the sun got above the trees. 1 on a crankbait and 1 on a jig, both in shallow water. The temp was 53-57 and clear to muddy. Couldn't find a fish in the clear water, didn't even spook a fish. It was good to talked with chris and russ over breakfast at clarks before the long day. Saw a few other TCTC member trucks when I was leaving and heard it was tough on all of us. The red is getting beat up with all the prefishing for the ABA so it should make for a GREAT TCTC tournament, Should have went to Grand!

Mitch
Take a kid fishing, the smiles are priceless!!!

BassBUFF

We fished from about 0800-1530. Couldn't find any clear water, very stained everywhere we went. We just about threw the tackle boxes at them and only managed one weigh fish on a spinnerbait. I think I must have hit him on the head. Looks like everyone had a bad day.

Yes I figured I would get it out of the way so we wouldn't have to fish it again.

BIG PAPA

I have been kidding about this for some time but I am about ready to get serious, it is sometimes more work than fun trying to please everyone and fish so many different lakes.
I am thinking about a team club called the 3 c's Caddo, Cross and Cypress. ~gator

Do all of yall really not like fishing the red that much! Its prob my favorite place to fish in nw la.  Always seem to be able to catch something.  There so many different patterns you can try.  The fish are always on atleast one of them!  Rocks, wood, drops, oxbows, sand bars I think it makes it more fun trying to figure those bass out then say cypress, caddo, or bist. there either on cypress trees or cypress trees with the exception on cypress with the docks!

kw4570gov

I agree with you TB44, I can always catch some type of fish on the Red, if the bass don't bite the catfish, or bream will.

This is the first year I seriously fished the Red and I love it.....Now I really like fishing Caddo alot, but I'm really just fed up with dealing with the slots, etc.

As to tournaments on slots lakes, I would think it would be very frustrating to have a good day but have to turn fish back to the water because they are within the slot...then at weigh in time nothing to show....seems you got to get lucky to catch a fish over the slot..

Now on the Red that isn't a problem.....Guess the only downside it the fishing pressure it recieved...still...I haven't had too many bad days fishing the Red....cept when boat plugs come out...  lo

Still like it though..

i havent lived here long but my experience on the red i love it...i was raised stream fishing for smallies but while different it plays to me very well...just gotta work alittle harder sometimes...but it usually pans out...btw scottie if you need someone to remind you to put the plug in or whatever just let me know...i can show you how lol...Jeremy

Hawgwild

Yep Jeremy...them heathens at work game me a real hard time about that plug deal..... lo ..Doubt I'll ever hear the end of it.. :)

But they still ate all the fish I brought in today... :)

Heading for BPS tomorrow and getting new plugs and bilge pump...

Sure wish they would replace that rod I broke but guess I'll have to replace it myself... >:( ...Sure like those rods..

And sure seems like a long time till Saturday...can't wait for the time change and I'll be heading there after work..

Yeah I went to Basspro tonite tryin to find a bday present. Couldnt make up my mind what I wanted tho and ran outta time. figured I could go back tomm and get sumthing. I need a new depth finder on the front of the boat. I have a Lowrance that worked pretty good, but I ended up breaking the wire that goes down the trolling motor to the sender. I spliced it back together best I could but it just doesnt read very good now. I think its time I upgraded anyway. Boy they have some expensive ones on the market!!! I think I will go with a Garmin, they have some in the $115-200 range. I dont need a fancy once with all the bells n whitsles for the front of the boat. Just want to know how deep, structure and what kind of bottom and temp. I think some of the more expensive ones had stuff I didnt need on it, like where and how fast I was going. One even went so far as to have a build in TIVO and direct tv hook ups, with the option to print out grocery list(sold seprately). Who buys that kinda stuff. I dont want a depth finder that cost more than the boat.
Anyway maybe you will have the boat ready for the water come this weekend. Hopefully you wont have to test the bilge tho, hehehe.
