Tough day for me on the Red in the ABA tourny.....Only had 2 to bring to the scales for 4.41 lbs.  Caught 4 or 5 other small ones...All my fish came on rattletraps....don't think I had a single bite on plastics or deep cranks that have produced in the past...

I also drew a partner today...He fared a little better with 5 keepers for a little under 6 llbs...most of his also came on lipless cranks and one on lizard...

So gota get ready for next ABA....haven't been on Bistineau in close to 30 years...  :shocking:

Fished the ABA today on the Red...managed a limit that went 8.96.  Best I can figure, that was good enough for 16 place.  Caught 7 total...one dink and 6 that would weight.  Fish came on white spinnerbait and Louisiana Shad Bandit - 200 series.  Man...that was some big time wind blowing.
Life is a B........each!

The day was just too nice to just set at the house so loaded up and headed for the Red..

Got on the water about 1:00... Started a little slow but finally got a couple of dinkers on a rattletrap...

Started working a black/blue jig and found some good fish in wood in 8-10 feet of water....Lost a good one at the boat...but did pick up a 15 and 16 incher there......Had some other hits but missed the hook set..

About sunset I started working back around a bank and actually picked up a couple more around 14" on white spinner working slow... Now that's something rare for me for sure..  :)

Water temp was around 50 degrees and I was fishing the Caspiana area....Some others were fishing for Crappie and bringing in some good messes fishing mostly around rocks..

I had the same idea Rattlin. fished Clark's from 1300-1600. Water was 49.5-50.5 and stained. Caught 6 bass on a white spinnerbait around dozier point. Best 5 might go 7 lbs. Was a little windy on that side but the action was worth it. There was a few logs floating around in the oxbow so be careful out there.

Take a kid fishing, the smiles are priceless!!!

Someone told me that tourny a few weeks ago needed 19ish to win... Sounds fishy (no pun intended) to me.  Especially noting the weather.  Some of you guys said it was pretty windy too.
Anyone know who won and what/where he won on?  Not to be cynical but 13-14 is usually the normal winning weight this time of year.

Mike Cork

I don't remember the name but he weight was 18 plus. Second was 14 plus and it fell off very quick from there. And yes the wind was brutal that day  :o

Yep, that was a real deal and it put a black mark on bass tournaments. I applaude those that were involved in catching this guy. A good friend of mine was talking with Guido Hibdon and this guy aparently has won a lot of money in the Missouri area, obviously he better find a new sport to cheat at

I havent fished a full day on the Red yet but what do you think about that recent tournament?  Dont you think 19ish is a little much for this time of year?
Yeah he won WELL of 60k.... bet there are some POed anglers.  Seeing he won a boat last event.
Of course I was also watching a special on FLW about cheaters, they say its pretty rampant on the small series.  I dont know If I would do a tourny now.  Its like playing a stacked deck.  One point the show made was how easy it is with lone boaters.  Theres no checks,  something as simple as meeting someone else with fish, who would know.  Stuff I never heard of, fish in a barrel, one guy got nailed with a diver in a local ( to him, not sure where it is) event, and there was another guy kicked off the FLW tour for other stuff. He was suspected of cheating but FLW got him on another rule violation.  I saw this guy interviewed once and he looked guilty as OJ.

Mike Cork

I see your delima, but we can only count on each other to keep our eyes and ears open. Louisiana has a pretty stiff law about this stuff because of all the gaming here. It's a call you gotta make. Maybe the club enviroment would be better for your tourney fishing

So you arent at all skeptical of that weight?

Mike Cork

No not really, the red river is capable of providing several 20 plus stringer in a single tournament. Now granted that doesn't happen that time of year and 12-14 pounds is norm but an 18 pound stringer isn't out of the question at all. So no I am not skeptical, but I may be too gullible

HAHA... but if we did we'd have free boats and free gear... as in pros.  I recommend you get this months BASSMASTER and fish them in the 2-8 foot depths near wood ( red and Black) and grass, other colors.  You should have luck.
