Red River Bass Fishing Reports

Jeremy...the TCTC is our bass club - Twin Cities Team Club.  It is a team format club.  If you know someone you can fish with, come on out and join us...if not, we will keep our eyes and ears open for a possible teammate.

I really believe there is a limit on that ridge Trey and I fished in the TCTC, The one with the bodark trees if we had found it with more than 20 min. to fish on a day we had to leave early

Mike, I found a steep bank that had floating timber up next to it. I had my boat in about 20 foot of water and was only 15 to 20 feet from the bank back in the back of some oxbows. I did get some bites of standing timber but my best was the ones that were blow in. There was a little grass up by the bank but not much. I did fish the rock walls but I only got one bite. I don't think it was a bass, but I did not see it because it broke my line. I am going to give the ABA a shot this weekend my self. We will see.

Went fishing this past weekend for the first time since July. Friday we caught 6 or 7 good chunks. No pattern some deep, some shallow on a variety baits. ( cranks, spinnerbaits, jigs). Went out there Sunday to battle the wind. Found a couple good concentrations of good size fish (3-5 lbers) and boated 5 or 6. They bit jigs, blades, and traps. Don't think they'll be there for the ABA unless we have 30mph south winds and the duck blinds are vaccant. I found them on a couple of good spots that usually hold large fish this time of year and the wind positoned  them like clock work.

Fished the River today until about 1:00 p.m.  It was COLD this morning.  Caught 4 fish and 3 would weigh.  Caught 2 on spinnerbait and 2 on (nobody is going to believe this) crankbait.  Water temp in mid 50's.

Had a hamburger with Railroader before heading home.

Ya'll did have a cold morning for sure...Hope you didn't have to run to far...that wind chill had to hurt.. 

WOW...Temps approaching 80 for the ABA tourny SATURDAY.....I had that wrong earlier..

I'm thinking I'll have a lot of company where I'm fishing....ha

Fished the red today i got there early and ran to the port, caught a keeper on a crankbait.then just hit a few spots on the way back. then ran south of clarks and caught two out of the same spot on cranks so i left just trying to cover water. i had three keepers that was 6lbs? but come sunday i will be milking the spots where i caught fish. didnt hit any of the areas that i hit last week. so cant wait to see what happens..

I was wondering what size line everybody is using on the red? for my cranks,spinners i use 14, but my plastics i use 17?

Same as I use everywhere else...17 and 20 (for plastics).

since i have only been catching fish on a few baits i might rig some with different line size to see if there is a difference..

I'm using 10 and 12 lb. mono on a couple of spinning rigs I use for light lure and finesse fishing..

Baitcasters:  using 12 lb. equivalent Yo-Zuri Hybrid for cranks and some plastics...That line is supposed to have a 19.5 lb breaking strength..

And using 15 lb. equivalent Yo-Zuri Hybrid for worms, carolina rigs, and some jigs, etc. That line is supposed to have a 21.5 lb. breaking strength....

I was using 14 and 17 lb. floracarbon on the baitcasters but decided to downsize due to heavy fishing presure on the Red and relative clear water where I've been fishing....I really think my bite has increased a little especially with the 12 lb. lines..

yea its saturday...i use stren 17lb cross the board...lol..i nonly have three rods...and i got the line on sale at BPS...gotta do what you gotta do when you are poor lol...anyone else attest to that...good luck to all on the mighty red...Jeremy

Best of luck ot all fishing the ABA on the Red Saturday.....I sure got lucky...First I thought the tourny was on Sunday....then thanks to another poster got me straight on that..

Then I was scheduled to work Saturday and that was cancelled last week..

Guess the good Lord looks after old bass fishermen.. 

Anyway...good luck to everyone and be carefull...they are calling for 10-20 mph. winds...sounds like another soaking like I got on Cross Lake...
