also was wondering if anyone has of has heard of people catching crappie! I would like to fill an ice chest up of those buggars!!!

Mike Cork

I haven't heard anything about the summer run yet. But I know it can be a blast when it starts. Sorry no help here, if it hasn't started already it won't be long.

Hit the river this Saturday with Country and Bubba.  We launched out of Bishop Point and fished some rocks on the main channel and also up in Beehive.  At 1030, after one bass and two bream, I decided to lock though and take my chances in pool #4.  We fished crankbaits and worms on the cuts in the rocks, and by 1300 we had 9 fish in the well.  I haven't locked through in a long time, and I forgot how good that section of the river looked!

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll never see him again!

Fished club tourney with my uncle Sun. from 6:30 to 3..... we caught around 20 bass! All but about 5 would have weighed....my top five wieghed 8.33 and my uncled top fived wieghed 8.77! We couldn't get a big fish to bite! The buzz bait bite was just about over when tourney started only managed one on black buzz.  Everything else came off baby brush hog!    If we could have combined both our catches we would have had about a weight of 12- 13 pounds.  Had fun though even though it was hot as  >:D  out there!!!!!!

DO they stock the red?  If do you know how many they stock it with and where they do it?

TB44

I have never heard of any stocking in the past couple of yrs. but im not saying they dont.

Railroader

I believe they stocked it this past year or around the fisrt of the year i remember seeing it in the paper, they stock it all through pool 4-5.

TB44

My mistake about stocking on the red.   Anyway im going to give them a try in the morning! going to try around the fence line and maybe the bull dozer if i dont pick any up there does anyone have a good place on the rocks close to clarks maybe around the dozer ?  I havent ever tried the rock jetties and was wondering what i should throw at them? Thanks Todd

Mike Cork

Any of the jetties right there at Clark's can be great. The best ones are the ones that run out into the river. Fish the ends of them and down each side 50 yards or so. I have found them on both sides up and down current, just depends sometimes on what? I haven't figured it out yet. Also look for jetties that are busted and have current running over the top or threw the hole :-* White cranks are usually best :-*

any good times for bassin the RR?
I went this AM from 5:45-1100 caught 4 on a brush hog at around 7am near some jetties.  Went skunk the rest of the day.  Timber wasnt active at all.

Mike Cork

Early and Late are the best times, we don't have a tidal influence all thogh I wish we did. About the only other thing is, when I hear the horns for the lock and damn I will head to the levee's and pick up a crank bait because it will cause a little extra current flow ;)

Apparently this past Saturday was a good day.  The 1st ever Bayou Outdoors Festival Bass tounament on Red River took 25.88#'s to win, second was over 20+.
The winners split a check for $11,800.00 for 1st place and Big Bass. Start planning now for next year, this will be an annual event every memorial day.

Mike Cork

That is an awesome payout ~c~ How many boats did they have show up :-\ I know they had guarenteed money, just curious how big it was.

121 boats, not bad for the first year, and looks like we will have more money for next year. We gave out a guaranteed 22,500 in payouts, 1st place -15th were guaranteed.

J10B

Well I'll be trying again this SAT.  Im gonna try stumps and jetties.

cmegee

not a bad plan, A friend of mine told me trick worms on the rocks with wood stacked up on them is working really good right now.

Gabby

Out in front of the Dozer, there is a pretty nice set of humps.  I have caught a few on Carolina rigged lizards.

J10B

what is the dozer, whitehouse etc?  where are they.  I launch at stoner or bishops.

Red Ranger

Fished the river Saturday from daylight to about noon.  Caught a couple - one a dink and one about 15".  Fished around Bishop's Point early and then locked through with a buddy and fished the rocks/jetties south of #5.

Caught both fish on the jetties - the dink on a white/blue lipless crankbait and the 15" on a junebug colored worm.  Both fish were on the river side of the jetties.  Missed one other small fish.

Tried topwater early with white buzz bait, pop'r and white horny toad, but no takers.  The rest of the day, fished mostly lipless crankbaits and a white crankbait - never found the fish.

Water temp started in the low 80's and moved up during the morning.

Fished the river Saturday from 3:00 to 7:00 and boy was it hot!! This was only my third time fishing this place but I did catch fish. I caught two on a crawfish colored Bandit series 100 crankbait and my partner caught one on a blue and silver Timber Tiger. My best was about 3 lb.

I am new to the river and would like to know what kind of baits should I be fishing? The crankbait was a nice change as I am a big soft plastic and jig fisherman.

Scott

Mike Cork

Scott, this time of year.... You are doing about the best thing for numbers. Cover water with cranks, this is good for you being new cause you will get to fish a lot of water and learn a lot about the river. Two other patterns.... Fish plastics and jigs deep in the middle of the brushy type timber you come across and Carolina rig the ridges that you will find scattered threw out the trees lines.

only question I have for scott is AM or Pm?  Im hoping PM :o

Scott K.

Yes it was P.M. I am planning on going a few times this week. I hear that there is going to be a big tourny there Saturday. I'll probably hit ole Bistineau this weekend. That will keep me out of everyones way. Red River has some crazy people on it. Almost ran over several times. :shocking:. Anyways, thanks for the tips. Sounds like I should just cover alot of water.

My son and I fished the RR with Red Ranger on Sat. from 6:30a-2:30p south of lock #5. Caught 7 total with 3 keepers, 1 Bream, 3 dinks. all on rocks with crank baits. Last keeper was north of lock # 5 on grass line. Just wish we could find some with a little size to them.
