Fished the Red Saturday from 2:30 to 7:30, and had a nice time.  We pretty much stayed in one hole back in Ninock.  I threw a frog (nothing), Wacky worm, and lizard.

Picked up one off a log breaking the current with a Wacky worm, even called the shot.  Pulled the old "straighten out the birdnest, find a fish swimming off with your lure" trick, but didn't set the hook. Missed a few on a lizard.

Daniel stuck a nice 3 pounder with a watermelon red lizard, and caught a couple more 1-2 pounders.  Lots of snakes, and PLENTY of gar.  We hit some crystal clear water, and watched bream & bass cruising around.  Couldn't coax them, as you can imagine....

Can you give up the location where those fish were caught???  :help:

Fished a church tourny sat. went back up into mcdades oxbo caught 2 at about 6:20 on white/chat blade then after about 45 min picked another up off some grass on a june bug sinko then nothing for about an hour! Then picked one up on a black red flake texas riged lizard off the bank under a tree. After another 25 min picked one up in the stumps off the lizard again. That fish had a good size wound in its side im guess by a damn comerant!!!! Couldnt find any pattern at all!!!! left out of there once the sun got up around 11 thats when they shut down completely....water sometimes can be to clear could see down 5 ft.   I finished about like 28 out of about 55 teams...with about 6 pounds none of the fish i caught had size....missed a big one on a scum frog too...early..... Took 15 pounds to win tourney not sure were they fished becasue you oculd fish any public water most in tourn. fished bist.

Railroader,

I will try.....  we launched at Bishop Launch and headed out to the River.  Took a right out into the water, then took a left into Ninock before the Lock & Dam.  Finding the little "boat row" is something I can't really put into words, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, after criss-crossing through stumps & stickups, we got along the bank moving to the left.  There are several little "cut ins" and we took the 3rd one, I believe, that led to a little oxbow.  I wouldn't even attempt at it with a boat over 16-18 feet.

You will know you are there if there is a road that runs on the other side of the bank.  Cows & horses were hanging out the whole time on the bank.

Just wanted to add that the tourny i fished wasnt a catch an release since the weigh in was back at my church so I took those fish home and cleaned them one had thrown up a good size bream and another had a small bream in its stomach so I just thought I'd throw that out there!

TB44.

PS 2 of the fish still had some eggs left in them

Thanks for the additional info, good to know what they are eating ;)

I'm heading out to the river this weekend. Anyone know if the sand bass are biting yet? Those are always fun to catch when they school (assuming the largemouth arent biting  ;)

JUST WANTED TO SEE IF ANYONE HAS BEEN FISHING THE RED. "AND IF" WHAT IS THE REPORT?  GOOD, BAD, OR JUST OK

I've been fishing the red, and it has slowed down over the past month.  Now the bream are taking over. Hard to get a soft plastic past them. I've been catching  several bass, but most of them are small.  Post-spawn is a tough time out there.  Lots of water.

Red Ranger

Fished the RR today.  Got 7 to the boat - all would have weighed.  Had 4 come unbuttoned, one about 2 1/2 to 3 lbs., 2 dinks and a small white perch.  Had one hit a chrome/blue rogue, but he went airborne and threw it.  All of the others came on chrome/blue trap or crank bait.  Caught them in 4-6' of grass, usually right off of a stump.  A brief pause, jerk, or change of direction at the stump triggered most of the bites.  Tried a white spinner, and flippin dark plastic, but not a bump.  Did have a fish slap at white horny toad at the boat - it sounded like a .22 going off when he hit the top of the water.

Caught two bonus fish - a really nice white perch and a sand bass - both on the trap.

Trey

Fished the Red Saturday with a friend of mine (yes I have friends!!) :roll2:  Anyways, we caught 7, but only two would have weighed.  All of my bass were caught on or near the rocks with a spinnerbait, crankbait, and a sweet beaver.  We stopped bass fishing around 9 or 10 and decieded to drown a few crickets.  We caught a few eatin' sized bream in the oxbows, but mostly just ended up feeding the fish.   >:D Those suckers are a bunch of thieves!  I would only get a twitch or two on my bobber, and then the cricket was gone. >:(  Oh well, we still had fun!

My son and I fished the Red on Sat. from 08:00am till 04:00pm. Caught 9, 3 keeper bass 2 nice sandies, 1 white perch, and 3 dinks. Saw more people on the river fishing Sat. than I have in a long time. No real pattern we caught them on spinner bait, rattle trap, and crank bait. We had a good time anyway.

Kent,

How deep were they?

Fished the Samstown tourney on Saturday. That is why there was so much fishing on the river.  We had 32 boats I managed to land 10 keepers but only scrounged 7.97 pounds for my best five.  Caught my fish on crankbait.  There were several limits brought to the weigh in.  First place was 19.85 pounds caught by none the less Jeff Pate.  Second was 15 and third was 14 pounds.  I would like to put a tracking unit on Jeff's boat to see where some of his hot spots are.  Also just to let you know the tournament hours were only 7:00 to 1:00 and we launched at Stoner. So take away one hour of travel time.

Trey,

They were in 3-5 feet around stumps in the Beehive, and around water hyacinth in White House.

GEO,

I sure would like to follow any of those guys in the top three to see where their honey holes are.

Where is the beehive and Whitehouse?
I caught a few up 12 mile.  Same thing, I threw it near the few stumps let it sink, little twitch and bang.  Only a 1.6 pounder was of anything, but it was still fun with the airshow just starting above my head.

Trey

GEO,

Did you fish the main river or mostly oxbows for those crankbait fish?

my fish came on the main river on cranks, while pre-fishing I caught some good fish in whitehouse but due to time constraints I didn't want to run back in there.

Fished from 3 - 7 PM Friday... mostly around the bulldozer and the fence line just S of Clark's...from 3-4 P the bass were pounding the shad on the surface in 2 - 12 feet right in front of the bulldozer...I caught 3 on a shad colored R-trap....on hindsight maybe I should have used a silver one....snagged one shad about 8" long, almost big enough to keep lo...I can't complain too much, the ones I kept were 2 and 4.5 lbs...they weren't interested in the spinner bait or the crank bait, except for the 2 bream that ate my pearl crank bait...tried the w/m brush hogs that worked Tues on the fence, but got nothing...there was a lot of company there, mostly looking for perch...

fishin nut

I fished the Red yesterday from 8:00am-2:30pm.  I hadn't fished it in 6 months or more.  However, I caught 6.  Five of these came on a crank bait, and one on a brush hog.  I caught one in beehive, and the other 5 in the oxbow below and across the river from Clarks.  Sorry, I am still learning all of the names.  Have a good weekend!   ~sun

I'm heading out to the river tom. was wondering where some of yall think I should start at! Havent been out there since a tourney back in early april......also wondering what the best bait out there right now.....any info will help!!!!!!  Thanks Todd

Mike Cork

I haven't been out there in a while, but typically when it gets hot there is always a good crankbait bite. I like to fish the levee's and deeper trees. If I can't get them going on the crank I will start pitching a watermelon brush hog to the trees on any ridges I can find :-*
