GABBY,
My battery had ran down on my phone and I did not realize it until sat morning when I tried to turn it on at the river. SORRY  :-[ I did get you message sunday when I recharged the battery.

I wish you could have been there too, it sucks fishing alone sometimes, but you did not need to be that far from home with the baby due.

Fished the Red on Sunday morning till 1pm with Papa, the highlight of the day was the fellowship. The fish were not friendly to Papa and I. There was a strong east wind all morning, the skies were over cast, and the water tempature was 85 to 87 degrees. We tried topwaters, spinnerbaits, and plastics, in a rainbow of colors.
Sit Down, shut up, and hold on!

I fished the river yesterday (monday) and today.. Yesterday was really not a good day only had two to the boat despite the wind and rain.. today however, I had about 6-8 weighing fish from 9:00 till about 2:00. just about all of my fish were caught within sight of clarks... all on plastics...hope this helps anyone who can use it

Went to the river yesterday looking for new places to fish the federation tournament coming up in a few weeks.  Caught three and missed one.  All of them on a red shad worm.  Talked to some friends of mine who started when I did and they had caught over 10 by noon.  All of them on a worm.  Tried other baits but plastics ruled yesterday.  The wind and rain made it a little uncomfortable at times.  Hopefully next weekend will be better.

What does everyone think about the nest tourn. at the river? There is going to be alot of pressure from the federation guys. I know they need to prefish for a much larger and meaningful tourn, however, are we going to be able to share the water in a friendly manner or what? I am starting to think realisticly about possibly locking through to pool 4. responses are encouraged....  Dave the Dope man////The Club

JR,
I will be talking to Richard tonight, so I will let you know tomorrow about fishing with Papa, I am pretty sure it will be a done deal unless someone cancels between now and Friday.

Papa,
have you talked to Richard ??? He called me yesterday and expressed a desire to fish with his son sunday since he lives in memphis and does not get this way much, I told him he was fishing with you and he said OK.  JR contacted me yesterday evening and apologized for missing the meeting sunday and wanted to know if we put him in the draw.  I told him we did not know his plans so he was not, he does want to fish though, so here is my plan, let him fish with Bobby  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D   ;D  ;D  ;D ----------------no just kidding  - I told him if Richard still wanted to fish with his son, then I would pair you and him for sunday.  I will let you know by tomorrow or Friday to make sure that no one cancels between now and then.

hope it is OK with everyone, would not like to piss anyone off (you know who).

BIG PAPA

Sure I will fish with J.R. I get to go fast. After I rode in his boat I am seriously considering investing in a new Skeeter (you know which one) in the spring.

papa

gunter1309

Papa,

As it stands right now you will be with JR on Sunday.  If someone cancels then things get sticky, I will let you know.  You can get with JR and make contingentency plans.

Fished the BASS federation tournament on the Red this weekend.  Drew 2 good partners, found out I am not as good a fisherman I thought I was, both caught limits while I only caught 3 on day one and 2 on day two.  Learned a few lessons, which I try to do on every trip, even if it is something not to do.

1) Fishing singles against the guy in the boat, it is hard not to resent him every time he catches a fish and think that it should have been your fish.

2) If your partner catches a limit on a worm and switches to a jig and still gets more bites than you while you only catch 2 fish on that same worm ----- SWITCH TO A JIG, DUMBASS!!!!!!! don't try to force feed the fish.

3) you can catch fish on the "nothing" banks of the river without going into the oxbows or fishing the rock jetties, they are less pressured and hold some quality fish.

4) fish on the river will bite a spinner bait on blue bird days with a little wind.

5) If the guy has a state team shirt on, he is pretty good.

6) just because it is your home waters, does not guarantee you fish.

7) sometime you are the windshield and sometime you are the bug.

oh well there is always next year.

Steve, thanks for the post and the advice. As you said it was worth it if you learned something, unfortunately it sounds like you knew some of these things but just didn't apply them in time.....

What was the winning weight and did any of our locals do well. Do we know anyone that made the team?

Thanks for the info.  Knowing what to do and actually doing it often is very difficult....I think, for me, its called hardheadedness.

Its back here next September....better luck then.

Congrats to JR Burt for taking a check in the Federation tournament, I believe he was the only The Club - Blanchard Club member to achieve that honor.

Do not know where he finished in the standings for the team, but they would be fortunate to have him if he made it.

Way to Go!!!

Some friends & I are planning to fish the Federation events in 2004, I'm going to write down everything you just said & keep in in ny wallet, no wait.......tattooed on my arm.  Yeah, that's it!  Thanks for the advice.

Steve, Thanks for the pat on the back! I don't think I'm close enough to make the State Team.  I believe that 84th place on day one sank my chances, not sure if the 10th place on day two was enough to overcome the bad start. Thanks anyway. I do have a realy strong partner for the Revel so maybe my luck will change!

Vicker's and I are fishing in the Revel Tourney. Anybody else gonna be in it? maybe we'll get lucky and catch a few weigh fish.

I caught three nice stripers on the river on saturday about 1/4 mile south of the barksdale bridge.  I was fishing for cats using cut shad and normally fish north of 12 mile bayou.  The police boats closed the river north of the Barksdale bridge (because of some row boat races) so I had to try a new spot.  I've never caught stripers (hybreds) in this manner before.  Just wondering if there is a reason I'm getting bit by them all of a sudden.  also, the cats were really biting good too.  They are eating good,  every cat had a belly so full they looked like they were going to pop.

Mike Cork

Jeff, stripers of all breeds are migratory fish if you will. When the weather starts cooling the water they will run up the river chasing shad and eating everything they can to fatten up for the winter. Fall fishing is awesome and the lakes and rivers clear of alot of fisherman because hunting seasons of all types are opening. So stay on the water and enjoy until it gets to cold.

Fished the Revel Saturday, first of all congrats to the Revel tournament commitee for running a top notch tournament, and a special thanks to JR Burt for a job well done, I look forward to fishing  next year.  Because of the corporate sponsorship this local tournament is able to have 46 entries and pay down 20 places for at total prize purse of $8800, I only see this annual event growing from now on.

Fishing was tough yesterday, JR and I only caught 5 keepers all day and had those before 9:00 am, only had one bite after that and it came unbuttoned.  we did manage 7.4lbs which was good enough for 20th place and a check, pretty cool.

Congrats to a fellow Blanchard member, Bobby Steward caught Big Bass of the tournament for a $460 check, 5.23lb beauty on a buzz bait.  ;D

See ya next year!!
