Was there any size to them. The guys fishing the sabine are tearing them up as well with hundred fish days up to 3 and a half pounds. You might want to check that out as well. He posts here on the forum.

Oh yea all of them are good size.  They ranged from 2 to 3 pounds.  We were catching them one after another!

I was thinking about trying the Sabine this Saturday but if they can be found on the Red it sure would be ALOT closer...That is if you don't mind someone getting on the fish you found!  ;)

bassadict69

Is this a yearly thing on the Red River like it is on the Sabine?

Seems like if they make a yearly run up river they would definately get stopped at the lock & dam!

I don't mind at all.  If I didn't want anyone to know I wouldn't post on here where they were.  At the lock and dam there is a concrete wall that comes of into the water.  Right at the end of that there is a pole (don't throw exactly at the pole you'll get hung up).  Throw to left of the pole right on the edge of the rough water.  Bait placement was very key to catching fish.  Let the grubs sink, and sit there for a few seconds.  If they don't bite by then real in quick and try it again.  If you cast to far you'll hit the rough water and it'll suck your line down river.  If you throw to short you won't get shit.  I plan on hitting it up again on Friday.  I know that we catch the white bass all the time down there, but yesterday was unbelievable!

Thanks Brent, I have my 13 year old daughter this weekend & would love to put her on some fish.

Reckon the cooler temps will shut down the bite? I assume you are talking about the long wall coming out of the lock where the buoys across the dam to the end of the wall.

Will this help?

No I've had it for a while. I just remembered about it and thought it would be some help.

Mike Cork

Cool, that should clear up any questions as to exactly where, thanks ~c~

Fished the river for about 3 hours this afternoon.  I caught 7, all on brushhogs and in 4-5 feet of water with grass present.  Most of them were about a pound, but one went about 2.5.  Small males, but fun anyway.

Mike Cork

27 pounds that is incredable, and who says the river is dieing off ~c~

It is good to see the river producing some good stringers . The river is the closest body of water to my house yet I never fish there. Hopefully that will change in the near future.

Brent and I are going to the Sabine on Friday if you would like to join us in my boat...........Im taking out two fellas Thursday and then two other fellas on Sunday -both of those days you are more than welcome to follow. You will have no problem finding fish should you decide to go yourself .If you are going to take your daughter though I would like to show you this spot .They are definitely stacked up there BIG TIME.

Went to the river this afternoon throwed everything int the box with no luck. can't think of the name of the place but once you turn behind the rocks to  go into caspiana go to the right instead of to the left and go way back in there. guys around us were dragggin out 4 and 5 pounders on watermellon flippin tubes with red fingers. i couldnt buy a bit. water temp was 56. went into mcdade lake after that water temp was 57-58, once again no luck...beter luck next time.

I like to call that area Caspiana North, most folks know what you are talking about when you say that. Sounds like a tough day fishing. But at least you got out. Thanks for the report and river conditions.  ~c~

I know where you're talking about, but I've never fished it.  I fished the actual oxbow and caught 8.  4 were small males, and the other 4 were nice fat females.  The biggest fish came on spinnerbaits, the rest came on brushhogs. Lost a few more. They are nice and aggressive. Water temp was 58. Most fish were shallow. I think there has to be some big females still staging in the deeper water. I caught a few 5 pounders out there a few days ago in deep water, but no takers on that pattern today.  It was a nice day out there weather-wise.

The area i was talkin about has several names so i left it nameless, but to most its cupples  or popo hole. i talked today to a couple of the guys that were in there fishing around us and they told me that they were catching most of there fish on rattle traps. I have plans to fish tommorow (tuesday) maybe i can offer a better report tommorrow evening.

Mike Cork

We will definately be looking forward to an update, good luck and no matter what have a great time ~c~

Oh - I didn't mean they fished Sunday night.  It was Sunday during all the rain.  I know they were shallow on beds, that's about it.
