For anyone thinking about fishing the Red soon.  The water is dropping (about 17' now).  The main river is muddy still, but he oxbows are slowly clearing.  I fished in Caspiana today for about 2 hours.  The visibility is about 6 to 8 inches and the temp is about 50 degrees.  I caught one 3 pounder on a white spinnerbait with double colorado blades using a slow roll retrieve.  It's going to take some time for that river to get back to normal.

mdegra thanks for the update. Hadn't heard anything about the river in a while and was wondering how it was doing. Usually February can bring a good bite out there. Keep us posted  ~c~

Yeah, Jan. and Feb. are usually good, but this year is rough.  I had a great year last year.  It will turn on again soon though.  I'm fishing Caddo tomorrow, but the Red on Sunday if it doesn't rain.  I'll let you know about both.

Went to the river today from about noon till 4.  The river is still high and muddy, but the oxbows are clearing.  Caught 4 on spinnerbaits, all keepers - one 2 pounder, two 3 pounders, and one a little bit over 3.  Good day considering the wind was blowing pretty hard.  I'm glad the river is coming back!

Mike Cork

That is awesome, I too am glad to hear the river is starting to produce again. Seems like it has been quite some time since we have heard anything good coming from there. Thanks for the update ~c~

Fished this afternoon for about 45 minutes (got out late).  I caught 3 fish in about 30 minutes.  Solid fish, all about 2 lbs.  The temp is about 55 and they were very active.  The river did go up about 1/2 foot since yesterday, though. But they were still there.  I'll be there tomorrow and Sunday.

Mike Cork

Wow, that is great. I am anxious to see how you do with some time to work a pattern  ~c~ Great Job.... Let us know

Thanks Mike.  I have a pattern developed I believe.  Slow rolling big spinnerbaits in about 10 feet of water with some mixed timber. But the temp had risen so much today, I worked a small shallow area along the bank and they were swirling on my spinnerbait. It was great.  Classic pre-spawn pattern. I woudl have fished it more tonight but my trolling motor plug is messed up.  I'm going to wake up early and wire another one on.  I've never fished Cypress, so you guys keep posting reports! I need to get up there soon.

mdegra

Pattern changed a bit today.  I only caught 2 based on my slow roll pattern, but I caught 6 more in shallow water with grass present.  So 8 total, ranging from 1 pound to about 2.5 or 3 lbs.  All very active males. So not a bad day with 20 mph winds blowing.  I fished from about 2-6pm, and it picked up once the sun poked its head out. I'll be back tomorrow.  Sunny and 71 degrees with no wind will be nice.

Mike Cork

I would rather catch them shallow anyway ;) This time of year the sun can make a big difference. Lucky dog, get to go fishing tomorrow too. Let us know how you do. Hopefully that front that is pushing threw this evening wont hurt your bite. It's not supposed to drop the temps but a front is still a front. Good Luck

BIG PAPA

Sounds like you had a good day buddy! always fun when you have to change something and still find some fish !

Slow today. Guess that front gave them lock jaw.  Caught 2 in 3 hours, but one was 5.5 pounds!  I thought I had a tree till it started swimming!.  I'll be out there again tomorrow afternoon.  I'll let you know.  The males are shallow (about 4 feet of water), but the big females are a little deeper.

dave the dope man

Man if I didn't know any better, I'd say someone was pre-fishing for an upcoming tournament....Keep it up brother, and good luck. Keep posting for us, and one other thing; for now you don't have to post areas if your'e pre-fishing, but after the tournament post an area or two. If you need some pool 4 areas PM me and I will see what I can do for ya.......Dave

Dave, I don't fish tournaments now.  I just fish for fun and post in hopes of getting good tips from you guys.  I have certain parts of the river mapped out in my head really well, and those are the ones I like to fish.  I'll be more than happy to divulge where my spots are, but I think it's more about what depth I'm fishing than where I'm fishing.  I would like to fish some tournaments with you guys, though.  I'll surely PM you if you can give me some spots though. I'm not proud. :)

Mike Cork

mdegra we would love to have you come fish with the TCTC. Let us know and thanks for keeping us updated on the river  ~c~

Sounds good Mike.  I'd like to start fishing with some people who are as addicted as I am!  Can you send me some info?  Thanks again for the invitation.

I will have Mike Noble get into contact with you. But for now just check out the TCTC thread (you can get to it from the drop down menu at the top of the page) we do all of our business on the forum except for an occasional dinner out just to BS.

Fished for a few hours this afternoon. Caught 4 decent bass and broke 2 off.  All in shallow water less than 4 feet on brushhogs.  One on a s/b.  Pretty slow, but water was nice and warm at about 58 degrees.  Nothing in deeper water.  I still think the big females are staging in deep water next to this shallow water, but they're playing hard to get!  I'll get them soon!

Mike Cork

IF we keep having weather like this I am sure you will stick a hawg soon ;)

I found them today.  Two 5+ pounders, a 4 pounder, and two three pounders.  We fished for 4 hours.  It was a good day! ;D

Railroader

hey what time of day would be best??? thinking about going when i get up. where shuuld i start havent been there since last april????

gunter1309

Railroader I would choose another lake tomorrow or go later in the morning, the RMTT is fishing out of clarks and so far there are 107 boats entered, might be a cluster on the ramp and there are very few spots in pool 5 that have clearing water to have to share with that many anglers.

just giving you a heads up

A buddy and I hit the Red today, and had a blast with the white bass!  We were there about three hours and caught around 50.  All came on white, green, and yellow grubs.

Mike Cork

Where abouts were them white bass at?
